BOOK YOUR TRIP TO KRUGER: bit.ly/BookatKr...
Watch this incredibly close moment caught on camera of a leopard that entered a lodge’s restaurant full of guests trying to hunt a bushbuck.
Send in your wildlife video here, and earn money: www.latestsigh...
This sighting was filmed at Singita Ebony Lodge a few days ago by 39-year old, Innovation Edge philanthropy fund' global partnerships lead, Erika Wiese, and her friend Marie-Louise Kruger. We’d also like to thank Erika for pledging all proceeds from this video towards leopard conservation through the Singita Lowveld Conservation Trust.
Erika Wiese tells us the story of how this sighting played out:
“Myself, my uncle and two of my closest friends continued chatting on the deck after breakfast. The rest of the family had gone to their rooms to rest before the afternoon game drive. Vervet monkeys are one of the best ways to know there is a predator around, by listening to their alarm calls. This particular morning, vervet monkeys alerted us to the presence of a leopard that made its way onto the upper deck, crossed the lower deck and then made its way from the lodge to remain undetected.”
“The leopard was seen stalking a bushbuck in the riverbed in front of the lodge earlier. Singita's staff is well-trained to deal with encounters of this kind and have strict safety protocols in place to ensure the safety of both staff and guests in these situations, we were, therefore, able to remain calm, silent and in awe of the beautiful creature that was so close to us.”
“We felt complete awe, reverence, respect and gratitude. What a rare experience to have such an encounter with a leopard. The situation proved that wildlife and people can live and interact with each other in harmony and respect.” It was as if the leopard knew that for this instance, it was in the human’s territory.
“The sighting ended with the leopard strolling calmly away from the deck area and out of sight towards the bushbuck who you can hear alarm calling at the end.”
“This was extremely rare for me and all I can say to someone in that situation is to stay calm and respectful.”

Leopard’s are pretty fearful of humans, so this was probably an accident, and given the fact that everyone remained calm and relaxed he remained submissive. Animals can sense fear so if the leopard sensed that, he would have likely used it to his advantage and attacked.
This also comes to show how much of an impact we’re having on wildlife and their environment. Sometimes they have no choice but to wander through, but it’s amazing to see that these people respect that and gave the animal plenty of space.

Leopards in the Sabi Sands (where this was filmed) get incredibly relaxed around people, because they're viewed often by safari guides and guests on vehicles. They get accustomed to people and don't see them as a threat. That may not extend to people on foot, and relaxed cats can get skittish if they encounter people on foot, but even so I'd guess that is what is going on here.
It certainly was not wandering through the lodge due to habitat loss. The Sabi Sands is 623.08 km2 and is adjacent to the Kruger National Park which is 19,485 km2. That is prime leopard real estate.

@Andrea Vitanza ~ she was talking about trophy hunting, millions of rich people around the world travel to shoot dead, generally large exotic animals, it costs a lot of money to shoot certain 'rarer' animals. for example, it costs around $50,000 to shoot dead an elephant, $75,000 - $100,000 per rhino...then you get down to hyenas and warthogs, around $500, baboons just $50... there are 100's of different animals on some lists (depending on what animals are available)..imagine writing out your list of different wild animals you want to kill? SMH such a shame 😞 sorry I got off track but poachers don't pay the landholder to kill animals, hence the term poaching, both are despicable

@@NannupTiger you'd be surprised by this but national parks allow hunters to pay big money to shoot problem animals, for example an American women shot a old giraffe a few years ago and everyone went mental over it, what no one knows is that the giraffe was so dominant it was killing all younger males in the area and was ruining the gene pool, the park rangers would of had to kill it anyway so they let a rich American pay loads of money to do it instead and thus the giraffe problem is solved and the national park gets a hefty donation for further conservation.
