Why is the BMC Teammachine SLR01 the best bike I’ve ridden? This is a very common question I get every single week. So in this video I will share with you why, including some aspects to the THREE model I did not like. Notably the handlebars, the DT Swiss Spline wheels, and a disappointing experience with SRAM Force AXS 12 speed. At the end of this review, I will provide some speed tests, comparing the BMC Teammachine to the previous model and also the SEKA RDC.
Bikes I’ve ridden/reviewed excluding Teammachines:
Factor 02 VAM, Scott Addict RC Pro Winspace T1500, Merida Reacto, Merida Sculura, Giant Propel, Cannondale SystemSix, Factor 02 VAM, Cannondale SuperSix, Chapter 2 RERE, Specialized Venge, Tarmac S-Works SL6 (previous version), Giant TCR (previous version), Cervelo S5, BMC Timemachine, SEKA Exceed RDC, Cervelo R5 (previous version),
Speed Tests: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
Rating System:
COMFORT:
Front end comfort (absorbing road bumps & divots)
Rear end comfort (absorbing road bumps & divots)
Vibration on coarse roads
Bouncing on seat over bumps
General fatigue in the body after riding
SPEED:
Ability to hold speed free pedaling
Ability to hold speed in bunch
Ability fo hold speed in draft
Ability to maintain or generate speed on descents
General feel when riding a steady state
Ability to hold speed and accelerate out of corners
HANDLING
Control & feel when out of saddle climbing
Control & feel when out of saddle sprinting
Steering control around corners
Ability to quickly move to bike (avoiding potholes, riders, traffic)
General feel at steady state riding
General feel at high speed riding
PRACTICALITY
Ability to alter/change touch points with ease (Saddle and Handlebars)
Ability to easily clean the bike. Does the paint hold grit and grim?
Does the paint scratch/mark easily
Will the bike resale with ease
STIFFNESS:
Does there appear to be flex in the frame during general riding
How responsive does the bike feel when pressure is applied to the crank
How well does the bike comply when out of the saddle sprinting
VALUE FOR MONEY
For the price, how much value does the bike deliver

So in love with my red SLR01 from '16. It is the Ultegra di2 model. Depending on conditions, I mount ENVE SES 6.7s with Specialized turbo Cottons or Campagnolo Shamal Milles. I updated the brakes to Ultegra r8000 mainly to keep with the black color scheme over the gray r6800 brakes. I also changed the stem to a Deda Superzero and bars to carbon Zipp SL Aero 70. Saddle is Bontrager Aeolus.
Love the BMC Teammachine. Had one, regrettably I sold it, but it was one of the best riding bikes I've ever owned. A joy to ride.
Just been watching and your description of the noisy/chattery cassette has just hit the nail on the head of how mine sounds! I've a Red AXS system with a force cassette and it is really noisy in the middle of the block. Thought I'd made a balls of something!
I've also had poor front shifting and I too have a BB area that has been hacked to bits. Thanks for helping me realise its not just me!
Your videos have an honesty about them and zero ego which is refreshing.
I also like the interaction and importance you place on a good local bike shop.
That is why I have subscribed and watch every new upload.
Keep em coming Cam.
P.S I would like to have a beer with the old man in the straw hat :-)
Haha cheers mate and thanks for the ongoing support. Much appreciated
Thx you for doing this video, really appreciate it. I was looking initially at the Trek Domane and it was selling at $4000. Then i saw the Roadmachine on clearing for $4700 and i think its a completely different beast of a bike with a lighter frame, better drivetrain, actually better everything. Keep making bmc content please, hopefully they will sponsor future vidz
Loved mine too. Stiff, light and nice road feel. 2014 SLR01 with Sram Red mechanical
Thanks Cam! Finally some data on the speed. Thanks to your review I can now pull the trigger on this bike. Thanks thanks thanks.
Cheers mate and enjoy 👍
I have the 2015 Teammachine and have always loved it. Recently bought the other Swiss bike, Scott Addict SL10 which is quite an upgrade with components.
i made the same experience when I wrote to both, Specialized and BMC.I got an really nice answer from Specialized and nothing from BMC.
Ahh another pearl of a video! Good to see that the BMC bike is holding on for its credits!
"Ol mate" is back and its GREAT!!! Ahah! 😄
As usual Cam, an honest, transparent and informative review.
Keep them coming mate 🚴🏼🤙
Cheers David
@@CamNicholls wondering how you find those power meter pedals. Looking at either those, garmin or preferably the new wahoo but have never used speed-play b4
@@Malcom2345 , I’m using the Wahoo (Speedplay) Powerlink power meter pedals and in my very humble view, they’re a game changer(no I’m not being paid to say this). I don’t race any more (one time very ordinary age grouper triathlete) and I’m an old fart now, but I enjoy the data feedback from these pedals and once you get use to how you clip in and out, we’ll I’ll never go back to Look or Shimano again. Im usually clipped in from stopping at lights etc, way quicker than most of the guys I ride with and even they comment on how fast I seem to clip in or out. Also and it might just be me, but for some reason I just feel the way my foot position sits on/over the pedal/cleat is different to the traditional Look/Shimano pedal/cleat but in a ‘better’ way for me and the down pressure feels more even on the ‘ball’ of my foot. Perhaps this is all inside my head 🤪. Im sure others will see this post and totally disagree and that’s ok. In the end, we all use equipment on our bikes that work for us and we must be honest and admit we all have our ‘pet’ brands etc. Cam may see my comment and given the amount of reviews he does on different cycling gear, I’d be surprised if he hasn’t already done something (a comparo)on the Wahoo Powerlink pedals and he’ll give you a more balanced view and feedback than I. However from where I sit, I say do yourself a favour and get a set of these Powerlinks on your bike and push on 😂 Happy cycling Dave M 🚴🏼🤙
Yeah, because a non pro needs a power meter on their bike? You poser clowns can be sold anything. I see these clowns with every gadget under the sun on their bikes getting regularly dropped in the hills around Boulder and Golden. But poser fools will always think they need to imitate Froome and other pros to ride a bike and that it will make them faster. 😆😀
Great review. Some classic looking about the Teammachine. I personally am looking at Aluminum 105 spec bike and the Teammachine ALR02 is probably on the top of my list over the CAAD105 or similarly spec’d specialized or trek.
“Oi he’s bed with water now!” made my fingers slide over to subscribe lol. Your videos and humor in them are great mate!
Cheers Liam, appreciate the support mate
Great review.
I’ve got a BMC ‘19 model DA rimbrake slr01.
What you state is correct in my opinion. Feels like having a flat ( get used to that) and it doesn’t feel fast. I,ve got a S-Works DA SL6 rb now as well. Geometry fit’s me better and it feels faster, more direct. Both are 54’s, ridden with the same 5.6 Enve’s. I’m selling the BMC , though it’s a good bike, I prefer the Tarmac SL6.
I’ve had positive experience with the BMC customer (European) service by the way.
first thing i got when i ordered my aethos with di2 was a chain catcher got it fitted before delivery £15 save you're frame from all that damage it's a no brainer cam
Thanks for your honest reviews and tests
'He's in bed with water now' had me absolutely dying.
Laughs aside, thanks for another cracking review, Cam!
thx for the honesty cam,
super!
Cam, this is the content I like to view over the Chinese bike build stuff. Thanks 😎🇫🇮
Cheers Dean.
Scott Foils after 2016 are pretty comfy road bikes too. Have 2018 frameset and I can definitely recommend it for comfort even on aluminium wheelset and bumpy roads.. Maybe some day would have a change to compare it to BMC Teammachine.
I have the same 2021 BMC Teammachine SLR01, but in the Poison Green/Black. I have Dura-Ace Di2 and DT Swiss wheels with 28c tires on them, and I love this bike. I've owned and been through many bikes trying to find the one(s) that I want and although the BMC was not on my radar, it is one that I am keeping in my collection. I've owned the Orbea Orca Aero, Bianchi Oltre XR4, Look 695, S-Works Tarmac (SL3, SL5, SL6, SL7), BH Ultralight, and a few others but I've finally settled on the Teammachine SLR01 and the Tarmac SL7. The BMC just feels like a great all-around bike. Like you said, it's comfortable and fast. I don't see it as much of a climber, compared to my SL7, but perhaps it's just my lack of legs. The bike just surprised me in its versatility. It kind of combines the speed and handling of the Orca with the comfort and quality of the Oltre XR4. It's not the lightest or the fastest in my opinion but it does everything very well. What I don't get in the SLR01, I get in the Tarmac SL7 but with a more aggressive geometry and stiffer ride quality. For an all-around ride and if I'm going on longer rides, I'll take the BMC.
Great to hear Neri, thanks for sharing on the thread.
Great review. I've got a 2021 Teammachine. Interestingly when I first got it I was slightly under whelmed. I obviously haven't ridden as many bike as you but I've had quite a few including Canyon Aeroad, Giant Propel, Giant TCR etc. Initially it didn't feel as snappy as some of the other bikes, however it had qualities that became apparent the more I rode it to a point where I really love it now and if I considered purchasing another bike, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one. I think the geometry is almost perfect for an all-round race bike and it is really good at everything. It is an absolute descending weapon in my experience. I've never ridden a bike that descends as good as this one. I ride sports bikes as well so I'm used to going fast and this bike feels rock solid bombing down hills. Keep up the good work, your channel is great. Cheers
LOL
Always a LOL with old mate carrying on. You're not bad either Cam :)
Great video to watch again Cam. Wondering if you can get your hands on the newer Chapter 2 models? I think the Toa in particular might fit the “fast, stiff armchair” description. I’ve found it very comfortable. Would love to hear your thoughts.
Great video cam. That is an awesome bike.
Same here. I own a BMC Teammachine too. It handles like a dream. And the best I have ridden. Especially the handling.
Great to hear that Ronit, thanks for sharing on the thread.
@@CamNicholls I ride quite a few bikes as well. You may see my channel for once if u like. Usually I borrow from my friends.
Great honest video as usual, Cam.
Not being critical on you but let's reflect for a moment: I love the bike but changed the handle bars, the wheels (the saddle???) and the group set is average! Maybe it should be, buy the frame for a project build 😉
Cam, I feel you on the chain drops. I ran a Red AXS system for a while on a few bikes, and I never fully trusted the front shifting (especially dropping into the little ring) without a K Edge chain catcher. Even then, I still "eased" it down into the little ring even more than usual.
New Shimano 12s is far worse tho re: chain drops and shifting issues ... if you don't believe the internet, just see all of those in the pro ranks.
@@pmcmpc my n=1 experience is different than yours with regard to front shifting. Crisper on the new Shimano 12 speed setup. However, that’s just a sample size of 1, so take that for what it’s worth. I have had some noise issues with one of my Shimano 12 speed cassettes that I haven’t been able to sort out yet, so thus far I would say that Sram’s rear 12 speed shifting, while not as quick, gave me less issues overall. 🤷♂️
@@finncox23 FD issues I think are due to very limited adjustment range of Shimano 12s FD. Rear, I think it's that there were significant compromises made with the cassettes when they chose to stay on HG instead of going to MS. I think more people have cassette issues than don't.
@@pmcmpc yep, the same is here: 2 bikes with SRAM AXS, some wild chain drops on both, esp. if shifting fast back and forth to find the best gear ration (with compensating shift mode enabled). Had to disable all these "advanced" features and be really "gentle" right before and during climbs. Never had this problem with the 12sp Di2 Ultegra. Fairly speaking, I do believe to SRAM claiming all these issues are due to incorrect setup/adjustment, but I have not met any experienced bicycle technician who know how to do this job (not by cell phone app). It looks like in the post-COVID era they have to choise but to hire high schoolers to service dept.
I really remember the slr02 handling was so calm that i almost felts it was boring..
But now after 7 years with canyon ultimate, im missing this calmness. You say its longer 1cm then the tcr wheelbase? It also has 410 mm chain stay.
These explain the calm handling i guess.
I think im gonna buy one for myself. Thanks for your nice review
Great vid Cam. Glad to have you back and creating fantastic and relevant content again.
I’m looking at the Seka Exceed (non RDC) for my next frameset. The geometry looks spot on (although I’m bang between the M and L sizes and can’t workout if a M with full stack of spacers or a L with a shorter stem would be best) but the value is outstanding.
As for BMC, I’ve always had a soft spot for them, again mainly because of Cadel and how much I liked him as a person and a rider. My issue with BMC is that they seem a little overpriced for what you get and I know a few people that have had issues with them. Albeit from earlier iterations when they were using Easton carbon but it’s always stuck in my head how BMC didn’t react very well.
Also, thanks to you and especially Neill and his bike fitting expertise, I’m now riding 165mm cranks with my cleats pushed all the way back (Look cleats, S-Phyre 902) and I’m currently experimenting with a set of 36cm bars (feels so much better). Neill said to check skeletal sizes in one of his videos, especially shoulder width and that’s been a revelation for me as well as the other things mentioned above.
Why cleata all back. I've never heard of that even though I prefer that way
@@reddoe7055 for me it takes the calves out of the equation when pedalling and allows me to make a stronger, more secure contact with the pedals and therefore push more power.
Great review as always thanks Cam!
Cheers Robert
Got a custom build (Red etap and Zipp 303) SLR01 about 5 years it's been amazing and I still love riding it. My main gripe is the little cap that covers the seat clamp does not stay on. I need to tape it which looks a bit crap.
Sounds like a nice set up Cameron, and I feel your pain. Those small things can really get into your head!
Intro is hilarious!! 🤣
Thanks for another in depth, interesting and informative video. My personal take on this is that the bike that looks the fastest / most aero usually is, and in this case the Seka has the slight advantage, at least in the aero department.
Cheers Allan, and yep, agreed.
I don’t think people understand how much time you put into these videos. Great content as always.
Oh you do do you lol
I don't think people realize just how cheaply fabricated most of these wildly overpriced mainland China made outsourced framesets are?
On a days grouptest with most of the main manufacturers bikes the Teammachine felt the most capable bike on the day and led me to buy one in 2019. Went all in and fitted Campagnolo SR eps which is silent and in 1000’s of miles not a single dropped chain moment
I need to try Campag! Never used it once. Thanks for sharing on the thread Alistair
@@CamNicholls The shifting is great although no better than Shimano in feel although zero dropped chains says a lot about the general quality and consistency of their build but personally it’s the braking that sells it for me, very controllable and no squeals or rubbing even in the wet
I ride the predecessor BMC SLR01 (2019) fully integrated with Ultegra DI2, DT Swiss 50mm front and 62mm rear deep section wheels. The best bike I've ever ridden.
I just purchased a SLR Five a few months ago. I haven't ridden it enough to give a proper opinion, but am liking the bike so far.
Good to hear, I’m sure you will continue doing to enjoy.
I would be keen to see your opinion/review of the Focus Izalco Max. I don't hear many talking about it. Cheers
Great vid. I’ve checked out a few BMC’s at a local shop. Might have popped for one if they had my size. Lovely wife too congrats mate. 🚴🏻♂️⭐️
If you've got the means, would suggest building up the BMC with Ultegra (or Dura Ace) Di2. I like SRAM etap (I have it on 2 bikes) but defs prefer the reliability of Di2. For some reason the etap always needs "something". Running a chain catcher too on my etap bikes, which seems to get plenty of use (the anodising has worn away on the chain catcher - better that than the frame).
Good video... really like the BMC but it also really highlights the Seka for amazing value 👌
Yes, agreed. Seka was feeling good with those Cadens.
Have to say Cam your videos are some of the most honest and objective videos on CZcams. I really can't believe you get hassled when you are as transparent as glass. Keep up the good work 👍
Cheers Bewster. Appreciate that mate.
Great review. BMC, reach out to this man!
Cheers Saracen
great vid. kept me interested the whole time. liked 👍🏼
Glad to hear it, cheers
Not sure how to express how much I appreciate your work on this channel. Great review of a great, expensive bike. I will, one day, buy my superbike based off your reviews. Thanks again.
Same story as me with Cadel. I’m now on my 5th BMC.
I’m currently riding the the petrol blue SLR_01 frame-set with DA and DT Swiss DICUT Arc 1100 and randomly using the same saddle as yourself.
I did take off the goofy looking cages tho and swapped them out for my preferred Arundel cages
My BMC weighs in at 7.02KG in a 54
7,02KG with cages and pedals ? Good weight for a disc brake roadbike
Yep, just got the weight down even more when swapping my 45s for the 33mm Roval Alpinist CLX II
Big praise for the Teammachine! Glad you've liked it so much. I do hope BMC reach out to you, at this point it's getting awkward!
Haha cheers mate
Maybe you get that all black 10k € frameset 😉
BMC is playing hard to get ahah and that’s why he loves it
Mirrors my ownership experience. Great bike but tragic customer care.
@@MrApfc haha good point. Treat em mean keep em keen!
Thanks for the video Cam, saying hi from Colombia! What do you think of the wheels of the new BMC SLR01 Three? Do you think they are good ones? It seems they are not on the DT Swiss normal lineup. Thanks!
Just got those pedla bibs - super impressed!
They’re awesome!
The cassette noise can be resolved by upgrading to cassette red. Not a cheap upgrade tho 😭
I found the chain dropped when using the sequential or compensating option. Don't have issues when manually shifting rings
Intersting video, I like the effort to do some real tests. I like the mix of 'cold data', the 'ride feeling' and a bit of 'love' for the brand (I feel the same but for Cannondale !). Good and honest review Cam ! Thank you 👏
Thank you mate
Ive got exacly the same bike, BMC SLR01 Three 2021. Sram force axs has the chain drop problem as well, while downshifting fd on the low cadence.
Great video and review, Cam! I’m always questioning whether I made the right choice with the Roadmachine over the Teammachine and this video has me revisiting that argument in my head 😅
Haha! Cheers mate
Bianchi Sprint 🇮🇹 Italian job!! For me.. Petros from Greece 🇬🇷 keep cycling!!
My favourite brand , planning to build one next year 🥳🥳🥳
Well played 🏏
I like your honest opinion base reviews. would rather watch your reviews and that of a so called pro.
Cheers Steve 👍
Very nice video and great insights to your love for BMC. Keep 'em coming Cam 🙂 Cheers, Chrissi
Cheers Chrissi
Nice video. What’s your height and what frame size did you buy?
How does this BMC match up with the Supersix Evo for speed/geo/comfort?
Previous rode a CAAD12 that has the SuperSix Evo geometry and love the aggression of the 2016-19 caad/supersix.
These BMCs look amazing just not sure whether to get the teamMachine or Evo. Or do I opt for the Systemsix 😂 (loved your comparison video)
Gee, I'm currently on a Giant TCR SL1 looking to buy a BMC SLR01 Three. Surprised at the difference in the comfort score. Personally, I thought that the Giant was quite okay for comfort, so really looking forward to what the BMC will bring. Thanks for your hard work, as always, much appreciated
Cheers Paolo, Giant TCR is a great bike. Loved it. Did feel a little jarring though at times, especially compared to bikes like the Teammachine
Did you buy one after?
@@cochise6345 I bought a Focus Izalco Max instead
My dream bike (with the Look 785). Maybe my next bike if i change my Trek Emonda.
Have you been able to do anything about the chain drops? My bottom bracket area is a mess with the 3 - 4 chain drops that have occurred over the last 18 months. I have become so afraid to go to the smaller chain ring, that I have taken the battery off the front.
You hardly see BMC bikes here in Adelaide, not sure why that is.
I was getting chain drops on my old bike so I put on a catcher and also changed the chain, adjusted the b screw and slightly aligned the rear derailleur. Problem fixed.
I've got an RX too, how good are they apart from becoming a bit thirsty
Love the colorway ❤😊
Would love to see if you can get your hands on a Look 795 Blade RS or a Time Skylon.
Take it from someone who has lived in Switzerland for 12 years. BMC's reaction or complete lack of a reaction (i.e. being ignored) is, well, very typical!
Pretty much the same experience in Germany. Great products, very poor customer service and communication.
I'll add that this is my experience too across both UK & Italy last year - BMC were very poor with their comms. Their retailer was awesome in the UK, hassling them and looking for alternatives..., and he was left super frustrated (& embarrassed) with the whole process, especially the waiting and shipping of the wrong replacement fork! (8 weeks of waiting for nothing!!) After everything, BMC then advised they don't support that frame & fork any longer (2017 BMC Timemachine TMR02 Ultegra model). BMC lost a customer for life. There's just too many other bike brands out there.
@@trevorhayes5414 …Swiss Snobs one would say!
Depends where you buy the bike from, AR Cycling’s service is brilliant. Otherwise maybe you just need mates like Ben O’Connor…😅
I’ve got the same chain drop issue with my Teammachine two 2022, twice now the chain has come off - the result some nice paint chips on my BB. I’ll have to take it to a good LBS to get sorted, I once lost a Canyon Endurace slx frame due to chain drops cutting through the chain stay - so it needs sorting.
Sorry to hear that. It's a not a good day when you chip into your paintwork,. I was angry all day when I did mine!
Hi,
would you recommend the Roadmachine with SRAM Rival AXS 1x12 and 44t cassete?
That Jay Taylor from TAYLOR CYCLES is a LEGEND!!°
@camnicholls - which selle italia saddle is that on the orange BMC you reviewed in this vid?
Thank you for your detailed review, sir.
Im considering BMC teammachine for comfy ride or daily routine such as communication.
Seriously, as a rider aero is important but comfort is REALLY crucial when we ride quite decent distance more than 100km. It is literally a fight against a fatigue.
BTW, CAN U GIVE ME A NAME OF THE WOODEN BIKE RACK BEHIND? THAT LOOKS GORGEOUS AND WANNA BUY IT 😍
Yes I love comfort too. So important. Of course, designerbikestands.com
@@CamNicholls Thanks for the link. God bless you 😆
Great video as always Cam! Out of curiosity, how are the first sensations with this deCadence 45 tubeless so far? Do you recommend them?
Yeah I love them, definitely recommend them. I will be doing a video in a month or so comparing them to the creative wheel which will be interesting. Same profile and tubeless set up
cam one question where did you bought that nice bike stand?
Interesting video Cam. Out of interest, how do you find the Selle Italia SLR compared to the Toupe or the SMP you were using, as the cut out on the SLR is smaller, and the overall saddle narrower than both of the others?
It’s the closest I’ve come to the Toupe (in terms of feel / riding comfort) since they stopped making them. 😢 Way different to the smps
I think You did a splendid job. You picked the bike you like the most, it may not be the fastest but that does not diminish your choice. And if someone wants to think You are being paid so what. Even if You are being paid by BMC, it doesn’t mean You cannot give an honest opinion…
Ummm. If he’s being paid by BMC he, by definition, cannot give an honest opinion.
Well done!
Looks nice but how does it stack up to a Time or Look?
Had a 2014 SLR01. 6kg with SRAM red22; dreammachine. Unfortunately got scrapped by being hit by a car. My dealings with BMC customer service have been sub par, which has me going off mainstream Brands but I do miss the BMC everyday
Sorry to hear about that, I certainly appreciate the impact a poor service experience can have. Thanks for sharing on the thread.
guys is that true that the bmc aero bottlecage will ruins a bit the clear coat of the frame?
Get some sponsor logos on the back of “ol mates” head .. Fkn huge real estate
Love ya mate
Haha
Well, if it helps you, I just took home my new SLR_01 Five based on your reviews and feedback. Pics and receipts available upon request 👍🏿
Haha cheers mate
Is the aluminum version any good?
I have the same issue of chain dropping on my scott addict rc 10 bike with sram force axs groupset. I don't know why chain drops in front. Never had issue like this on shimano di2. now running a chain catcher.
SRAM AXS has never shifted well from day one on the front end. In addition, it shifts slower than Di2 on the rear as well. When you factor in that Di2 also provides synchronized shifting of the front ring there is no reason to go with SRAM AXS unless wireless looks are more important to you than functionality, which is true for the poser types. 😀
Nice bike. The only thing the bike needs is a new Dura Ace or Ultegra group set!
Great review Cam,just as a matter of interest, what did your wife think of the comfort on the Time machine road? I do a chain gang and a lad has one and recons its a bit edgy and bumpy?
She never road it, it was mine. I just got her to talk about it haha. I found it better than the Cervelo S5 and SystemSix on comfort but not the best in the aero space. The SEKA beats them all on comfort
Cam, thanks. Interesting info. I know that there are just WAY too many bikes it there, but... any chance of looking into the Bianchi Aria? I've got one that you could borrow....if you're ever in Germany. ;-) I really would be interested in your take on it though.
Haha, when I finally make it to Germany Le, let’s make it happen! Until then, I’m just pumping through all the other bits and pieces I’ve got sitting in my office 😆
How does it compare to the Timemachine road ?
I'll defo second the BMC 'flat rear tyre' feeling, but it does come with it's advantages. I previously had a Venge Vias Disc and the rear triangle on that thing was so absurdly stiff that you could feel the rear tyre skipping and losing traction during sprints and strong efforts if the road surface wasn't flawlessly smooth. No such issue along the same roads on the BMC.
Venge Vias was an angry monster! Your arse will be loving you for you decision to get a BMC!
@@CamNicholls I also have a stiff race alloy disc frame from the local custom producer which was designed for sprinters with well - stiffness in mind. The feeling is SO HARSH if you put the hammer down. You feel exactly which part of the rear wheel tire tries to not lose the traction. But to my surpise it is not too harsh for everyday riding even on bad roads and so-so surface. It must be the design and hydroforming the tubes so it is stiff when needed but not uncomfortable. 28mm tyres from Tufo greatly improved already ok comfort and it is my favourite bike even for 150+ km rides. Alloy has greatly improved over the years as the material for frames.
same here.. i was riding my good old Cannondale caad12 for some weeks on a trip in italy. Back at home jumped back on the BMC Slr01 2018 disc, i often looked down if i caught a flat tyre. The comfort difference is huge compared to those two bikes. However in descending i have more confidence with the cannondale, even on rim brakes. It feels more agile and nimble and gives you more feel to the road, while the bmc is more planted and stable. But in the end strava says the bmc is quite a bit faster!
I currently ride a Teammachine SLR01, those stock wheels are total garbage, I did relate on that bit 🤣 Once I got those upgraded... Chef's kiss all around.
So crazy that a bike that expensive would require upgraded wheels and handlebar - not to mention a fix for the gears!! Outrageous!
@speedbird8987 Exactly, and what makes it even more laughable is that frame is as cheaply fabricated on mainland China as it gets. True cost of fabbing that frameset is probably no more than $500 tops, yet it's being sold for multiple thousands of $$ equivalent as a part of their complete bikes..
Because you, i am order bmc roadmachine 01 three 😅
Re: Scram shifting… Recently built up a Ridley Helium SLX Disc with SRAM Force/ Red axs. Found set up way more intuitive! Front derailleur working flawless… dare I say… better than my old Shimano di2 Ultegra.. This surprised me as I was historically a Shimano guy and the general consensus is that Shimano is better..
LOL
Teammachine SLR Mpc most beautiful bike today :)
Purely lookswise, that swap in 2013 was absolutely terrible :D Swapping a 2020 looking frame for a, well, 2013 looking one hurts.
With that pricetag it should make coffee as well !
Doesn’t the data in your test show that the average watts were consistently lower on the upgraded BMC while producing very close to the same speeds as the Saeka? That would make the BMC faster in cases where km/h are the same but you used fewer watts, no?
would the greater comfort have come from wider tyres enabled by the disc brakes?
Not in this case, it's the frame
I also was testing out the sram system on an orbea and on the test ride my chain dropped I was like smh terrible
Timeless Teammachine is a fantastic bike.
