    For me it is Woodford Reserve all day!

    It's personal taste, I believe. Corn Barley and Rye are a nice mix together in the bulleit. Says me who adds a slither of mountain stream water:)

      Absolutely! All tastings are personal taste really, sure there's always an argument for wether something is "true to style" or feels "quality" but wether it actually tastes nice or not is pure personal interpretation. Cheers!

    All about your own tastebuds.
    Was told not to buy a cheap rum recently but did anyway and found with a mixer was very nice! Bottle disposed of in two sitting and replacement bought! Much to the disgust of my x friend! 😂😂
    I agree Bulleit for me too. 👍

      Absolutely - everything is subjective to personal tastes so if people just don't like these then absolutely fine! I do wonder though if some really give them a proper chance - sure they aren't super exciting, but they are a far cry from anything bad - I wonder if they were priced higher if the same opinions would be had. Cheers!

    Great comparison. Haven't tried Bullet one yet. Woodford has a lovely honey note for me.

      Interesting! I always find Woodford less sweet than many others so often pick up the "other" flavours (i.e. not vanilla, caramel, honey) but it certainly has a bit!

    I managed to snag a bottle of Bulleit yesterday (£22 from Sainsbury) and was very surprised by it, I was a bit dubious about buying a bottle because of the higher rye content but I thoroughly enjoyed having a few pours of it last night and would totally agree with your verdict on it against the WR, clearly better (to my palate) and way more interesting ! So I think that I'll look out for the 95 rye version too, the 10 yr old and maybe (if I can get hold of one) a cask strength version too, which I haven't seen on this side of the pond.....yet, lol. Whilst I don't think that it's a 'top' bourbon I do think that it's great value for the money and a good alternative to a standard Buffalo Trace even if it's just for variety more than anything else.

      Yeah you've nailed it for me there! It might be subjectively the best thing going, but for some reason it really does keep pulling me back! Cheers!

    Honestly I can hardly tell the difference between woodford and highland park 12.

    An excellent review. funny thing, the other day I was looking at these exact two in the shop finally deciding to go for the Bulleit rye 95 :) which I find quite herby and spicy, and perhaps a bit too sweet for my palate. I drink peated whisky almost exclusively, and the only bourbon that i've really liked so far is the Knob Creek 9 yo (a rich and deep palate with lots of wood notes).
    Would love to hear your notes on the Bulleit rye 95 & Knob Creek if you get a chance at some point. cheers :)

    • @TheCrumbyBeard
      @TheCrumbyBeard  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Oh interesting! I've been considering a Rye to purchase to put head-to-head against Sazerac Rye and as I'm a Bulleit fan anyway, I think you've just helped me decide! So yes thoughts on the Bulleit Rye 95 will come in the next few weeks! I also had the realisation in a recent video that I hadn't had anything from Knob Creek for years so that's also very likely to make an appearance at some point soon too. I just need to find some more storage space! Whisk(e)y problems ey! What's your go-to heavily peated dram? Cheers!

      @@TheCrumbyBeard my go-to's are Ardbeg uigeadail & Laphroaig quarter cask and pretty much a fan of the whole Talisker range, just finishing up a bottle of Dark storm which is very nice. and yours?

      @@isidoro8566 I love the flavours of peated whisky but unfortunately they don’t really like me all that much - almost instant heart burn which is really frustrating. I can enjoy the regular Talisker age statements and some moderately peated Campbeltown options. I’m a massive fan of unpeated Islay’s though. The Bruichladdie Classic Laddie and the Bunnahabhain 12 in particular 🥃

      @@TheCrumbyBeard we have a very similar taste. my favourite unpeated whisky is the Classic Laddie & Bunnahabhain 12 comes a close second :) thinking about it, I almost only drink Isla whisky (and Skye for talisker)..! though if there's a good offer on any of the Glendronach's (including the peated one:) I usually get it.

      @@isidoro8566 I've heard great things about Glendronach but I'm yet to sample. Based on that I think you should give the Ardnamurchan Distillery a try too, I'm yet to get a bottle for some reason but I've tried a few out-and-about and they're on my must-buy-soon list. Cheers!

    Bulleit is not budget where i live That's for sure It's way over rated and price tag to match at our bottle shop. it is a good bourbon i have to admit i like the green sideways label myself. why is all bulleit labels on the bottle placed sideways? is it deliberate or are the factory workers drunk and flat out putting it on straight? after drinking 3/4 of the bottle the label looks straight then. Heheh

    • @TheCrumbyBeard
      @TheCrumbyBeard  Před 6 měsíci

      Haha, I believe it's because they are hand-labelled so they want to make it very obvious that it is the case! I'm happy with it at the low price it's available for here but I don't think I'd go for it if the price increased by 50%. Cheers!
