- Juilliard trained opera singer reacts to Home Free - Ring of Fire (Featuring Avi Kaplan of Pentatonix). 🎶❤️
Home Free is an American a cappella group of five vocalists - the world's only all-vocal country band - everything you hear is made by the human voice. "Ring of Fire" is a song written by June Carter Cash and Merle Kilgore and popularized by Johnny Cash in 1963. The single appears on Cash's 1963 album, Ring of Fire: The Best of Johnny Cash.

Hello miss maggie, pls react to ELHA NYMPHA singing ''chandelier'' by sia at steve harvey show.tnx..to ur b~e~a~u~tiful yt channel..
What Chris B said. That or Geoff's own cover The Headless Horseman. I am a base myself (or I used to be) and those two got me singing again after 20 years of not doing it. Mind you, I have some training to do, my lowest at the moment is still an octave higher than Tim in this video.
Maybe Elvis Bridge Over Troubled Waters, 1970 and Suspicious Minds 1970
Pls react to Geoff castellucci headless horseman as a Halloween treat. You'll be amazed !!!!!!

Avi's smile is the best part! I love that this song showcases both Tim's and Avi's music education. The harmonies thru almost every Home Free song are awesome. This song makes you feel like you need to roll over afterwards and have a smoke -- even if you don't smoke.

When Avi goes low early in the song he isn't just holding a low note he is singing lyrics and he is amazing

The especially impressive thing about that last note is not just that Tim hits a G1, but he hits it and then holds it for about ten seconds while everyone else sings their last bars. That's a darn long time for a note that low.
Thank you for your lovely comment. Hope you will join me at my new Home Free Premiere in less than 1 hour?
13 seconds exactly
During their live performance of this song on The Sing Off when Tim hits that last note he does not hold it nearly as long, but you not only hear the note you FEEL it like it is a physical presence on the stage with him. I understand that Tim has a 5 octave range as well.

It's so fun watching people find out just how amazingly talented Home Free is, Tim especially. He can sing so much lower than a G1 as well. You should listen to their cover of Honey I'm good, Tim goes down to a D1 I believe while growling like he did at the end of this one.

Tim sings E1 in new cover of “Folsom Prison Blues”. And Geoff Castelucci from Voiceplay has done two new solo covers of “ Blackbird” and “Headless Horseman”, in which he sings E1 and F1. Yeah, these two are not human!
Geoff also hits an E1 at the end of oogie boogie song aswell I’m pretty sure
Just an FYI, Tim trained Geoff on the subharmonic range!! Geoff has a vid out where he talks about it!
Both of those Geoff E1's are correct.
In the live singoff TV contest version of Ring of Fire (when Home Free first invented this arrangement), it's a half-step lower. Tim finishes on F#1. But he doesn't hold it as long.
Tim foust has been working with Tim Storms to increase his octaves even more.
@@timgray3790 how do you know this?
For Pentatonix, watch Mary Did You Know....for Home Free, watch Do You Hear What I Hear. The harmonies for both.....🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thank you for your suggestion!😁
@@maggiereneemusic as well as that, Daft Punk from PTX, and Change on the Rise, one of Avi’s solo releases. Peter Hollen’s collabs with Avi and Tim are also highly recommended.
I second that request. Both are great. Plus, Home Free’s Do You Hear What I Hear was arranged by Adam Rupp, the beatboxer.
Yes Mary Did You Know is one of their more emotional tunes. I would also suggest Pentatonix - Aha!, Singapore, The Star Vista. It is live, and MItch and Avi are killing it.
Avi Kaplan has one of the most underrated singers out there right now. His performances with just him and his guitar feel so unbelievably intimate and raw. I listen to him frequently and I know what I'm getting into but still, his range blows my mind every time! I listened to his cover of "Black is the Color of My True Loves Hair" with Peter Hollens the other day and just sat in my car on the verge of tears for the entire time.

That last "fire" note of Tim's... I saw them in concert last Christmas, I was all up in the nosebleed against the back wall of the theater. When he hit that note, I felt the back wall and my seat vibrating. I felt the note in my chest more than I heard it. It was amazing!

Tim Foust has collaborated with Peter Hollens on several songs, especially on Misty Mountains from The Hobbit.
Avi Kaplan also has collabed with Peter, on the classic Black Is The Color Of My True Love's Hair.
Peter is also famous for collaborating with himself - layering upwards of 100 tracks of his own voice in A Capella covers.

The C2 was definitely a chest note from Avi. He doesn’t do any subharmonics in anything, his chest notes are just so resonant that it sounds like it might have to be a different vocal technique, but he just blasted it out.
As for the final G1 from Tim, that was what’s referred to as a “growl” note. Avi has done a couple of these, eg in “Natural Disaster”, and Tim does it in a lot of songs, eg “Down to the honkeytonk”.
👌🏻

Peter Hollens and Tim Foust doing Misty Mountains from Lord of the Rings. The layering of their voices is heavenly.
Thank you for your suggestion. 😁
“Misty Mountains” is from “The Hobbit,” not “Lord of the Rings.”
@@DennisKovacich You are right. Lol
@@DennisKovacich I always considered the hobbit LOTR seeing as it's basically the prelude chapters to the start of the fellowship.
@@chemislife, “The Hobbit” was published in 1937 as a children’s story. When Tolkien’s publisher requested a sequel, he proposed “The Silmarillion,” but his publisher rejected it because he wanted more hobbits. “The Lord of the Rings” was published in three volumes in 1954-55, and required changes in subsequent editions of “The Hobbit” for continuity. They are completely different entities, as is “The Silmarillion" and other works that were published posthumously, that tell various parts of a larger tale.

The thing I love most about this cover is the contrast between the different vocal textures. Avi is so warm and round but Tim's voice is more ribbonlike for lack of better description. Loved the reaction! G1? Still a long trip south to catch Tim's lowest note! Tim coached Avi on expanding his lower range and Geoff has acknowledged Tim as an inspiration as well. He didn’t really coach him, Tim just showed Avi what growl is, which does make his range lower but his chest range is just naturally lower.

Stick with home free for a while. A lot of music from them. Not just covers but originals. Listen to their live sing off songs. Different arrangements because of the judges and only 1:30 per song but pure gold. For fun the butts remix and thank God I’m a country boy is awesome. Mayday and in the blood covers, as good as the originals. Ed sheeran and Marvin Gaye mix, classic. And when you walk in is an original of theirs for great singing and an original for fun is champagne taste on a beer budget Tim foust wrote, funny. I have every song on my Spotify. I wish more people could be introduced to this type of music.
I can’t hardly wait! I’ll be at work when it premiers BUT I will have my headphones. :)
So glad! 😍
Hello again from The Shire...This is one of my favorite video's you've done...You almost needed a vacation from the look on your face there at the end...lol...I grew up in a house where my dad played guitar, banjo and the mandolin...He played fiddle also but had trouble finding the strings with the bow...He also sang...My mother loved every type of music...when I was about 5, an door to door salesman came to the house selling stereo's...yeah, I'm that old...She bought his display piece for full price...1964 = $400.00 = a butt load of money...I would wake up in the morning to different type's of music...Boot's Randolph...Sergio Leone...Johnny Cash...The Smothers Brothers...The Beatles...The Monkees'...Then the Classical selections on the ages...So there...Oh, I loved the Ring emoji...It fit very well...Love you and stay safe...
So glad you made it! LOL! I got you! Thank you for your lovely comment, suggestion and for watching my video until the end. I appreciate it. 😁💖💍
Turns out Home Free has two songs today (Friday) They've turned On The Road Again into an anthem for our times, and they did a cover of U2's I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For.
Thanks for the info and your comment. 😍
I love how much you LOVE music and use that to inform your technical expertise. Thank you so much.
Thank you for your lovely comment! 😊💖
Hi, Maggie. I really enjoyed watching this reaction with the live stream. Thank you for chatting with us while we watched. Your reactions seem to be filled with both awe and joy. Love your smile. :)
As mentioned, here a few great Home Free videos for your consideration:
- For pure and amazing harmonies, "How Great Thou Art." "Helplessly Hoping," and surprisingly, "Auld Lang Syne."
- For making the ladies swoon, "Thinking Out Loud/Let's Get It On" mashup
- For a great original arrangement (by Adam Rupp), "Do You Hear What I Hear"
- For a smile and a laugh, "All About the Bass," "Butts Medley," and "Champagne Tastes on a Beer Budget"
Again, thank you and welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole.
Thank you for your warm welcome. If you see any NEW videos being Premiered through Christmas by this or any other wonderful artist, would you please let me know so I can do LIVE reactions for my B-E-A-U-TIFUL family?
@@maggiereneemusic Home Free just released a few Christmas tunes. "Cold Hard Cash" (written by Austin), "What We Need Is Love" (written by Tim Foust), and "Christmas in Dixie" (live, ft. Alabama). Enjoy! Not new, but I think you would really love their version of "Auld Lang Syne."
Can't wait to look at those. Meanwhile if you do see something new that's coming up as a premiere please let me know. Thanks so much for the info and your suggestions.
@@maggiereneemusic FYI! Home Free is premiering their new song, Warmest Winter, at 12:00 US Central Time.
Yes thank you! I am doing a LIVE REACTION to it at the same time on my channel. Will you join me?
I suggest Peter Hollens' collab with Tim Foust of Misty Mountains! Just for fun, there are a lot of videos of Home Free live concerts with Tim doing 'story time'. Is the emoji a comment on your personal life? An announcement?
LOL! I got you! Thank you for your lovely comment, suggestions, and for watching my video until the end. I appreciate it. 😁💖💍
YASSSS!!
Not taking away from Avi,,, Tim is a bad boy....
Thank you for your comment. Did you like the new reaction video to Pentatonix I just posted today?
Whoaaaa, where in the world did you learn what subharmonics is? Lol that's a very, very obscure vocal register, I'm always surprised when I come across a person who's familiar with it.
Avi and Tim do not sing in subharmonics, but actually, the _a cappella_ group *VoicePlay* has a bass singer who does sing in subharmonics. I recommend you check out VoicePlay's cover of the "Ooogie Boogie Song"-that's their most popular song featuring subharmonic singing. It's incredible!
Tim uses a growl technique rather than a subharmonic to hit the low note in this song.
@@paulgoers220, yeah, the low note here is growled. Tim Foust does growls but does not do any subharmonics
I wonder if Maggie knows what growling is? (I would have thought that it would have been more likely she were familiar with growling than subharmonics… hmm)
I listened to your suggestion! 😊 Thank you!! Did you like my new reaction to VoicePlay that I just posted?
I dont remember if I said this yet, but Tim holds the record for lowest recorded note ever.
Thanks for the info! 😁
Pretty sure that is Tim Storms... he can sing lower than the human ear can hear.
@@wbish3 when i said lowest reorded note i meant on a recording.
@@nateschmall8873 Tim Storms has broken the world record twice for the lowest sung note ever recorded. He recently won a competition to sing a low E, more than two octaves below middle C, on a new album by composer Paul Mealor, called, Tranquility: Voices of Deep Calm with the St. Petersburg Chamber Choir.Aug 21, 2012
Tim Storms has that title. There is a scene in one of Pentatonix' behind the tour series where Tim Storms come to a concert and comes back stage to meet Avi. The others don't know who he is until Avi explains to them then Avi is a bit nervous about singing the bass line with Tim in the audience. 🙂
You 100 percent should listen to the oogie boogie song by voiceplay, Geoff takes lead and his range is jawdropping
I listened to your recommendation! 😊 Thank you for your suggestion!! Did you like my new reaction to VoicePlay that I just posted?
i must have watched this homefree clip way to much cause i know exactly when this is in the clip. Its right after avi puts a hat on , no spoilers for ppl that didnt see it yet from me :) but the picture and tims hand say it all. if his hand is like that stuff is gonna break :P
Glad you enjoyed! 😍
Geoff Castellucci hits a really low note in his solo quintet cover of “The Bare Necessities,” and someone commented that even though his hand was off camera, you can see his shoulder dip when he does that move as if he’s shifting into a lower gear. Geoff himself replied something like, “Guilty! I just can’t help it.”
And Avi always signals with his eyes when he is going to pull that. I think the difference would be because of Avi's opera training.
