@@flyboy970 yeh, but if you ban them for the weekend and then they don't drive for that weekend then it's a successful punishment and pats all round for the legal system... If you ban them for longer they'll ignore the ban, break it and as such the legal system will have failed...

I've seen many have, even one in a stolen sprinter, the chopper and at least 6 cops on the ground, they never found him after he dived into a hedge

I think stingers are great but in this situation we need a device that the police can use from the window of the vehicle having officers sitting at the side of the road waiting to deploy the stinger against a vehicle always has the possibility of ending fatally we need better equipment
Like what? What ever they have nothing will stop a 13 tonne truck in its tracks in a matter of metres. Wont matter what the cops have tech wise the cops cant control an HGV coming to a stop. HGV Stingers are an improvement on what they had. Heavy duty spiked nets out the back of an X5? Well yes but they are cumbersome and that would leave no room for all the other kit police cars carry.
@@DasArab I totally get where your coming from but the way I was thinking is In other countries where it’s safe too do so they will shoot out tyres now I know the uk government will never permit the use of firearms from moving vehicles due too the risks too others around but I’m sure if it was looked in too there could be other options safer for the police even if it’s a spring loaded system that they can activate from a distance. Too many people just out doing the jobs they are contacted and paid to carry out don’t get too return home. People say there ain’t enough jobs and it turns them to crime well as someone who’s from the uk that has turned to crime at stages of my life I can say migration is one issue I love being a country that opens its arms to people seriously at risk of dying or too those who wanna create a better life but while we allow people to come too safety or for a better life but we can’t keep on allowing it until there’s enough work for those people who live in the country and who’s family’s fort through wars for us to have a better future but with the current situation things are very hard and doing crime to make money is an easy go too sorry but things need to change we can’t just make excuses as that’s not finding a solution

A 17 tonne lorry travelling at 60 mpg needs a huge amount of static load to bring it to a stop. A BMW X5 isnt going to be enough, 5 BMW X5's will just get dragged along. I imagine that 3 17 tonne HGV's with a 100 tonne cable might be able to stop an HGV quickly, but how do you get them in place all at once? A Pop up solid metal barrier like they have outside Embassy's and the Houses of Parliament? Well yes, but how and where would you put them? Imagine the cost of putting them in over 4 lanes of motorway every 5 miles on the Off chance. never going to happen fella.
@@DasArab stingers have the potential to stop a 13 tonne lorry, stingers that can be thrown from the window, nets to stop the wheels whining, I agree that you’re not going to be able to stop a lorry out right but there are definitely things you could do to the tyres that will stop it eventually.

Yeah that’s three of them nicked on suspicion of dangerous driving failing to stop for police and criminal damage and the driver was disqualified from driving for 36 years and was ordered to retake his driving test

A lorry that size (18 tons gross) typically weighs about 8 tons empty so they were pretty wise not to play it too risky with their one and a half ton cars.

Why not trail the lorry undercover until they stop somewhere and then bust the whole crew? I don't see the reason for a spectacular chase like this.
Waist of time to wait for an undercover officer who could be miles away when you can just initiate a stop then and there :)

An 18 tonne Lorry doesn't need to push a 1.5 tonne car very much to unsettle it enugh to cause a crash.

Fairly likely that the lorry was driving at close to flat out so unless the driver was very skilled little options for a sudden increase in speed to execute a more effective ram especially a direct ram across the police car bumper. A sudden swerve in a truck unlike a car is not really an option so the truck driver was limited to a steady push across the rear bumper and not a corner strike like the tacticalstops the patrol cars ocasinaly execute.
This was never going to be a really dramatic chase. An hgv tractor unit with no trailer in a pursuit would however be something to see.

Simple solution to stop vehicle is to fit stinger beneath rear of police cars and release in front of target vehicle accelerate away and and wait for stinger to puncture tyres

15/6 22 - all these chases seem prolonged. If an appropriately qualified Officer was allowed to use a suitable firearm to be deployed puncturing tyres or piercing radiators earlier on it would reduce exposure to danger for legitimate road users during on-going pursuits.
This runs a massive risk of going wrong, and in any case would require an AFO who may or may not always be available.

only specialist units have guns, quite rare and I don't think they affiliated with the traffic cops specifically. They're only really used in planned operations to sting known and potentially armed criminals. Those units do not mess around, not your typical coppers.
