  • Rob Greenfield's latest sustainable living project is to live in a DIY 100 ft² tiny house for two years while foraging and growing 100% of his own food in an urban area. You can follow more of Rob's adventures in sustainable living on CZcams and on his website here:
    / robjgreenfield

We are thrilled to be featuring Rob on our channel, and we learned so much from him just with this one video collaboration. In addition to living in his tiny home, he's figuring out how to create his own cooking fuel using a biodigester, he's growing his own toilet paper, and he even makes his own sea salt.
He built the tiny house in the backyard of someone who was looking to live more sustainably. In exchange for a place to build the home, he created a rainwater collection system, an extensive garden on the front lawn, a bio digester and composting system, and more.
Obviously, we can't all live like Rob is doing in this video (although it does look like a healthy, simple, and rewarding lifestyle), but we can get inspired to make positive changes in our own lives. Maybe start composting or eating more fresh food, creating less garbage, riding our bikes more, etc. That's what we're inspired to do after working on this video with him :)
We also want to say a huge thank you to Brandon Kari for filming this footage of Rob and his tiny house homestead for us. You can check out Brandon's work on his website here:

It does seem to be a fair and mutually beneficial exchange for him and the homeowners, almost like the old fashion days of having a caretaker cottage where the groundskeeper lives. I also like how he doesn’t try to glamorise of idealise his situation nor hide the challenges his choices can pose. The most important comment he said was there are pluses and minuses to EVERY choice we make and life is never easy nor carefree and can be unpredictable but we do have a choice about how we prioritise what we invest our energy into.

Its not hard as a human one should have enough adaptive skills to do even better than him.. But after frugal living you realize less is sometimes more hence he realized he only needed a room to live, and he basically has the entire yard, I’d need an A/C in that shed though but overall I’d suggest a $500 efficiency with all utilities if you’re gunna be in someones backyard...

He explains the arrangement in depth on his CZcams channel. The short version is the land owner wanted to learn to live more sustainably. So they let Rob live on the land for the time, in exchange he will teach them how to maintain the garden and live a better life and when Rob leaves the owner keeps the garden, tiny house, and outdoor kitchen.

@@thechaotimagnet and you think the owner will live there forever? He could sell the house next month or move to another state. I know he is a nature man but that is no difference to living in the pre-industrial age. If you stuck in that time then there will be no advancement today. People live like that before. Do you think they were happy? Do you think they were not nature awareness? They were all environmentalists by nature but there lives aren't that good either. Not to mention they didn't live too long as well.

Wow, my mom has a friend living in the backyard something like this, but has a bathroom and shower. He lives for free in exchange for keeping up the yard, and plants veggies during the summer. His family always tries to convince him to move in to a real home and move with family but. He says he likes living outdoors. Likes doing what he wants everyday and he has been there for about 15 yrs. For a long time it seemed weird but now with the tiny home living and videos like this it just seems like he is actually happier and less stressed than the rest of us. It’s gets over 100 in the summers and very cold in the winter nights but he says he is fine all the time.

This guy seems pretty amazing. He has everything put in an orderly fashion, and literally, uses up all waste for a safe environment. Some people may make fun, but that's his personal hookup and he's happy. Thank goodness the owners let him do this on thier property. But, in Florida, I'd have to have air condition and screens. Lots of critters in Sunny Florida, lol 🌴🌞🌀

I salute Rob Greenfield. Truly an exemplary person. If everyone lived like Rob, there would be no climate disasters, no ecological collapse, none of massive pollution and garbage crisis and no impending collapse of industrialized civilization. Unfortunately, most people are frustrated potential millionaire/billionaires with insatiable desire to consume more /wantonly pollute more rather than budding Rob Greenfields.
