- Well - this surprised me!
Redcat literally pulled the truck from the shelves due to the control arms breaking - so I knew it was going to happen eventually - but it lasted A LOT longer than I expected!

You explain things well,Troy..Thumbs up!!!!
Thanks 👍
I really try!
Awesome Troy this is by far the best video review of this redcat yet thankyou for this!!
Glad to put it out there! I sure had fun with it!
Being a Redcat Fanboy I really want one of these. Maybe I’ll get one before horizon fest 🤷♂️
Maybe!
Only issue there is it isn't a Horizon brand...
Fantastic bash session, sir!
Thanks!
Got a little FPV in there.
Red cat moving up the rc game! Great video, thanks bud!
They sure are trying!
You the Man!
Most excellent Basharoo Troy. That was really full sending it! I really like that machete A lot!💯💯💯👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼😎😎😎
It does better than I expected!!
Damn, that's pretty freaking sweet! Not going to lie, I've not had great luck with Redcat in the past, but it really looks like they're stepping up here.
They really are trying!
The Kaiju is sick and very tough and lightning fast on 4s and just about everybody agrees, the MT10E is tougher than my Granite at the Skate Park with a servo horn upgrade, the TR SC 10E is a Rocket and one of the best all time short cars trucks… My Dukono is even phenomenal with the same shocks for 5 years and they don’t leak and are 100% better stock shocks than anything Arrma or Traxxas has ever come with other than the 6s Blx line. Redcat has some amazing stuff. What RC’s did you have?
@William Perri I had a Volcano EPX and I had their Lightning Drift
Nice first bash with the machete, most cars would of broke on side landings just the nature of jumping rcs everyone crashes, nice sends 👍
Thanks 👍
We’ve had ours out twice and I’ve replaced 2 of the control arms. Figured we would just go ahead and see how long they will last. This truck is a blast though!
Once you get the upgraded control arms on there - it makes a huge difference.
Got a Vortex and a MT10, love both and there different. Just ordered the redcat machete 4s on sale for 299.
Great! I hope you like it!
I took the buy back option with mine... center diff leaked all the fluid out, passenger side front shock shaft was pulled out, and the front diff was making bad noises. I told them it was a whole new can of worms I didn't care to open up. Good luck with that truck... they do look really cool, but unfortunately I'll never forget it as being the only rc car I had for almost a week and never drove, and returned.
Sorry to hear that - I am certainly luckier with this one!
8:45 3M dual lock Velcro is a good way to hold and a great fuse point if it does come off on a hard landing it’ll click right back in 😊💯✊🏿
Oooh! Great idea!
@@RoadsideRC every1 of my rigs has that 😊 and I don’t jump
Which is Uber great😍
Awesome to see you sending it! Pretty nasty landing on the corner 👀 I have broken plenty of arms on a landing like that 👍 Did red cat overreact with the recall? Maybe they should have done a rolling change like everyone else 🤔
Great question!
Mine was certainly more durable than I expected - but do respect them for what they did. Took guts.
I was wondering how that truck would be . Look's cool ...! I need a truggy style truck . Don't have anything like that . Sledge or maybe one of these . I like that truck . I'll be keeping check on that one .
Need to see how it goes long-term, but initial impressions is I like this MUCH better than the Sledge.
That is very cool man. Looks like a great rig. Got some serious height on those jumps and it lasted quite a while. So. What you're saying is, if you go out and buy longer set screws. The other arms will be fine? Thanks Troy
That is 100% the countermeasure that Redcat is putting in. They are revising the part to have a longer set screws!
It look great and especially in the air. I think landing on one corner from that height would have broken a lot vehicles.
Agree 100%!
Sir.....Jb weld and a hose clamp??
Ha! It was all I had! :)
Thanks a lot man I got a life where I can’t afford a 1k maxx and my friend has one and I can’t face my 10 scale around him Bc of damage so this is my next buy now
Nice! Glad I could be a bad influence! :)
This truck has been super-solid for me!
@RoadsideRC how do you charge a xt90 battery tho?
@@trulypoortbreezy1829 The same as any other battery - the charger doesn't care what connector is on it, as long as it is connected!
What charger do you use now?
@RoadsideRC I do not have it yet but all the lipo chargers I see have xt60 plugs and others but none plug into a xt90 like I see the arrma has a ec5
@trulypoortbreezy1829 You can buy charge leads, or solder different connectors on. Soldering is a great skill to have in this hobby. It will save you a HUGE amount of $$ in the long run.
I think a ARM style like Team Corally did, on the Asuga XLR would be a good idea. One solid piece, as opposed to a 3 piece design.
I do agree. A single piece design is just simpler.
I should've got the 6s. Love my 4s though. Its tough. Replacing power switch and steering servo now.
I haven't tried the 4S - but bet that it does really well!
@@RoadsideRC man my son and I love it. My first was a tmaxx my dad got me so I had to pass the R/C torch to my son. We have over 13 now in all scales. We race 1/8 dirt oval nitro and electric. And those 1/5 king motor buggies converted into dirt late models. Look up dirt oval racing network. You won't regret it. Thanks for the response man. We're in the shop wrenching now.
@@Holmanrc Awesome you are sharing it with your son. That is what got me into it!
Awesome video Troy, would you recommend this for next RC? I've also have been looking at the ARRMA Typhon 1/8, and the new contender wov racing tyrants. Any thoughts?
It really depends on what vehicles you already have and how you like to drive.
The Machete fits my style really well. It handles BEAUTIFULLY and just SOARS through the air. I really like that.
What it does not do: backflips...just too long and not enough power. It is also HEAVY. Running it on 6S instead of 4S is almost mandatory. As a comparison, I used to always run my Kraton on 4S.
That center diff needs a few ear plugs
Yep - I put thicker fluid in it after this video.
I love mine, thinking of tires, center diff fluid change, and maybe a high speed gear
Center diff change is a MUST based on my experience.
Gearing will also be helpful for air control.
@@RoadsideRC do you have a recommendation on where to start on a gear selection?
@@turbomike71 My plan is to only jump 2 teeth and test how hot the motor gets.
@@RoadsideRC thanks for the info.
What I’m gonna do with my stock upper control arms take them apart and get some all thread from Home Depot or Lowe’s and put longer rods inside the upper arms and the rear arms before they break. I think it sounds like a good idea. What do u think bout that man
Sounds like a GREAT idea!
Are the current shipments of the Machete shipped with all the fixes and updates or do they ship as originally produced about a month ago along with the updated parts which you have to swap out yourself? Also, do they now come with any tools?
Great question. From what Redat has said, I believe they are shipping with the original parts installed AND the upgrade parts in the box.
Good news - the upgrades are super-simple to put on...and that is only IF your truck actually has the issue.
Trying to.choose the next step from the less expensive rc cars I am just starting and have legendary legend and two others along that level .looking at the redcat machete and the losi dbx pro what are your opinions between these two .also havnt seen any reviews on the 4s version of machete.should someone just spend the extra 100. For the 6s or is 4s worthy . Thanks love your videos very helpful
Great questions Scott!
Both the Machete and DB Pro are good choices.
The DB Pro is a little more versatile, as it can easily be converted to a SCT truck for racing.
Parts are probably cheaper on the Redcat.
Argh. Tough choice between them! Both are solid choices!
mine broke driving across flat ground. JB weld didn't work. I wonder when my Replacements will be here. I didn't jump it much but it was always diving.
Interesting! Very different from my results.
Redcat Live video yesterday said they were boxing the parts up now.
I just watched the video of the live stream. Nice, I should get them in a couple days. I put gorilla tape on the arm and maybe the hose clamp would stiffen it up and hold it.
100% the ramps fault. Seemed like every rc had an issue launching. The low ride height seemed like the issue but everyone having issues…
Great bash in any case, thanks for sharing!
Truck is kind of like the Talion - just sailed. I guess that long wheelbase really helping. But - not as responsive either.
Maybe RPM or M2C made an arm from the machete ? Or 3D print on your own ? Each time bash you should replace the arm i think it's not worth ?
Perhaps I didn't clearly say it in the video. These are the bad arms. Redcat has fixed the issue and is putting out new parts.
Was this video stock?it took a lot.
Yep - 100% stock.
Is that the 6s or 4s
It is the 6S model.
When did you get your parts? I’m still waiting I’m scared to drive mine 😢
They arrived as I was working on the video. Based on my experience - don't be so scared to drive it - as long as you make sure you land it!
👍👍😁😁
I feel like theres 0 ground travel and clearence
It really is a low-truggy for sure! I am curious to see how it does on a race track.
Do RC is a big time redcat hater and he cant drive very well lol.. he turned off so many people from buying this car.. I think that was his ultimate goal though.. the same way RC guy garage turned off everyone from buying the Kaiju EXT..Great vid bro and the issue is quality control if the arms aren't built correctly on the particular rig i guess.. Quality control has been an issue with Redcat manufacturing but the cool thing is is they take care of it
It really is interesting, isn't it?
Based on what I had seen, I literally expected the truck to fall apart on the run up TO the ramp! :)
I was literally astonished that it just kept taking these jumps without issue.
@@RoadsideRC you know what gets me is the amount of parrots in the rc world lol
I am still amazed that Redcat didn't learn anything from the Kaiju EXT (which I am STILL having upper arm issues with).
Personally, I can't get past the look of this truck, er, truggy, uh, whatever... lol
It is really interesting to see their messages they sent out on the issues. It seems to continue to not really be a design problem, but more of a manufacturer/assembler issue.
Based on my experience, this truck is going to be really strong...when assembled correctly.
@@RoadsideRC I feel the same way about the Kaiju EXB. I love it, but I am very frustrated with it's simple weakness. I have a claim in with them right now. If they don't fix this, I will. Once I fix it, it will be fixed...
@@oldmansrc Claim? Dude if you have a EXT..(not exb) Redcat sent out new upper arms for free to all owners.
@@philthyco1 "all owners" that put in a claim for them. I have just now put in a claim for them... (And EXB was a simple typo...)
As far as redcat, stick to the overpriced lowriders, everything else they make is problematic and weak diffs. Arrma, losi, or Traxxas. Even take a gamble with new HPI because it's the same price point and they need support. This is a talion/sledge/kraton wanna-be.
Ha! You clearly didn't watch the video!
