  • This is a rant about the issues I found when trying to upgrade from 4s to 6s This is need to know. Redcat look at this issue and then talk to Tekno about motor mounts they use two screws not three which would help you redesign this part A fellow CZcamsr shared this suggestion with me and I am sharing it with you guys amzn.to/49sGFy1

    I appreciate the in-depth review. For anybody wondering more quickly what's the theme on this video. 11:33 Basically the default motor that comes with it has a unique 25mm motor shaft. Most motors seem to come with a 20mm shaft or somewhere around there which isn't long enough to fit here with your pinion. So if you're looking to eventually replace the motor, it'll be difficult with that thick motor mount block. if you plan on keeping the motor as is with the Machette, I'm assume it's fine. I'll let TKSHobby expand on that point further if he wants to. Thanks for the heads up on this. It's not an issue for me as I don't see myself replacing the motor but I imagine for some people that'd be a deal breaker.
    Seems like we need Redcat, or some aftermarket maker to make a machined version of that motor mount just a hair thinner to accommodate the more standard 20mm shafts. If someone does that, problem solved. Or if a company doesn't do it, need someone in the community really good with a scanner or Fusion 360 and model an exact version, but thinner, STL file (that's a 3d print file) one can then send off to the multiple companies that will machine your part for you. I don't think you'd want to test a part like that with a 3d print only. But IDK. some filaments are fairly strong.

      I agree The Redcat Mechete motor mount issue should be addressed. Fixing this problem would make the platform much more user friendly and would probably attract more customers it’s really the only thing that’s keeping this platform from being on of the best

    Just upgraded to the Machete from a wltoys. Such a good sale. Having a blast as it is for now. Bummer, this design does limit our options.
    I'm too new to the hobby to know if this is a viable option, found it recommended in a Facebook post questioning this issue. On Amain hobbies. Tekno RC Hardened Steel Mod1 Long Shank Pinion Gear w/5mm Bore (19T)

    A part of the hobby is breaking and fixing anyway, I wouldn't even be mad if the arms broke and I had too fix it anyway. The parts are only $10-$20 bucks.

    Just found your channel, nice content. I was really looking at this but it has the same issues as the shredder, that being the motor limit. I think if they did a reverse Kaiju where the center diff is is an inch away from the rear diff, you could have rotated the motor and given you a lot more space.
    I have owned quite a few redcats and i agree a lot of people turn up their nose because of the brand. Overall I've been happy with them. Keep up the good work!!

    I figured this out as well. Swapped in the same 6s G2 system as you a few weeks ago and the pinion worked its way loose. I already swapped the stock 3674 4s motor in and was going to use that on 6s for a while till I found a solution. Don't want to spend $120 on a $50 motor from redcat due to a stupid long shaft design. I just purchased the long shank pinion and will give that a shot- thanks @jlarson42

      @@TKSHobby Tekno had them on sale but didn't offer the stock 15t and I didn't want to step down to a 13t or 12t I don't think they had anything but the 12/13 and 18/19T. Hot racing also makes/sells them and I picked one up on amazon at 15t. Could honestly step up to a 16-17t idk how 18t would do with cogging.

    • @TKSHobby
      @TKSHobby  Před 20 dny +1

      I would go with the a 1/10 Traxxas rustler 4x4 bl-2s it has the heavy duty chassis and parts are easy to get and upgrades are easy to install and the have the best customer support. There are also some good Arrma models like the Granite or the big rock but parts and upgrades are expensive even on eBay Red cat has the blackout line parts aren’t in many hobby shops in my area but eBay has them. Amazon has some good deals on Rlaarlo, MJX, HBX, 1/16 - 1/14 - 1/12 scale models that come with everything you need to get started in the hobby except tools and batteries for the remote the others will require a at least a 2s lipo and a charger. That said it’s all about the best bang for your buck. I should mention that the rival mt 10 has opinions that come with all you need and it’s a great platform also. I hope this helps and welcome to the hobby you’re going to enjoy it 🤩😎

    I despise Traxxas and all its bussines model but I'm no blind: Redcat can't even lay a finger on Traxxas. As a company, Redcat it's too small and "their" models are not even designed by them. As an Example, you may find the Machete under some chinese brand using another name on amazon, aliexpress and places like that. They simply buy the rights tho these little manufacturers and offer their products as something created by them with subtile changes here and there, using other colors and schemes. Something similar happens with Yikong and Absima and with FTX/VRX.

      It’s to bad that traxxas sued arrma over the design of the original Nero I think that was a very good platform. I think it was better than the revo it was model after. I don’t know for sure, never owned a Nero

      @@gcarterer so you agree that Redcat buys most of their models from other manufacturers which is fine as long as everyone knows what they’re getting but Traxxas doesn’t share your opinion on this the lawsuits say it all

    Oh it’s absolutely stupid design. They got a “6th scale” truggy but the 4s version is a dang 10scale 36 can motor and the 6s is a dang 8th scale 40mm can. I was just about to order one to put my favorite go to electronics in it but nothin fits. This is the dumbest design I’ve ever seen.
