My all time favourite song by the Carpenters, Karen Carpenter had a voice like silk and just flowed out of her, gone all these years but never forgotten.
love this "carpenter's" cover of the band "klattu's classic song! first heard this one on " the carpenters " album "titled: yesterday once more" ! my dad would've loved to of heard this particular song from "the carpenters"! sadly he never got to! but that's OK because in his afterlife bliss he's able to!
Yah, Mike. Probably the best female pop voice. Her voice had so much, so much character. It would have been nice to follow her as she aged. I bet she would have handle it very well. I don't get why intervention wasn't done sooner. It wasn't a well known disorder at the time, but still. . . I didn't know she sang this song until I was re-organising my Klaatu albums and found she had recorded it.

This sweet song contains such an unvelievably important message!!. I've enjoyed listening to Karen Carpenter's golden voice since I was just a a little kid in late 1.970's. Suggest ALL open our eyes and see, learn to listen to our inner self, specially during these tough, sour & cruel times. So many things are about to change pretty soon. Stay safe, strong in our FAITH. Many Blessings to all!!. 🤗🇺🇲🙏🙏🙏
Confession: I've enjoyed and watched this video version of the song for years. It's always made me feel better in difficult times. I love this, thank you.
unbelievably great song, wow,by the end of it I was totally emotionally moved. What musical talent...........fabulous........one of the best songs put out for sure.....
This is a masterpiece. That voice... those arrangements... the strings... woodwinds. Klaatu may be proud. Aliens would never do any harm with such beatuful music ;)
BLOWN AWAY!!! Thats the only thing i can think of to say about your work here my friend. Huge round of applause. Extending the strings at the start of the song really was a stroke of genius. I know that to some it may not seem too relevant of an idea but sometimes that extra 5 or 10 seconds of a chord or note can change the whole feel of a song. This should be the official video for this beautiful song. And i think Karen would be VERY proud of this. GREAT JOB!
Amazing production by Richard Carpenter and Peter Knight! Karen Carpenter - lead and backing vocals Richard Carpenter - lead and backing vocals, keyboards Joe Osborn - bass guitar Tony Peluso - guitar, DJ Ron Tutt - drums Earle Dumler - oboe Gregg Smith Singers - backing vocals Peter Knight - orchestral arrangement
My mother god rest her soul, was one of the Gregg Smith ensemble singers and and sang on this track.. she then went to session sing for George Benson :-) Love this song even though I was sick the back of teeth of hearing my mum singing it at home every damn day lol... good old days.
That sychronisation to the music at 4:05 and also at 4:10 when he's dropped by the beam are fantastic, I loved it! A well-put-together video - a round of applause to you!
I will go listen to the Golden Record (Voyager 1). It would a sad discovery for me if Karen's voice is not traveling the galaxy, as our Celestial Ambassador beyond the Frontier of our Solar System. Ned, I enjoyed the video.
R.I.P Karen Carpenter 30 years today you left this planet and who knows maybe went to join the occupants of interplanetary most extraordinary craft and are right now are wizzing around the universe..:o) We miss you...x
When that piano kicks in at 2:35 it makes me wish Richard Carpenter and Paul McCartney had collaborated and made an album together at some point over the last 30 years. Two masters that should have worked together, even if it was just the once.
I love the way it starts to play with the strings. I think this is how it's supposed to begin but Richard seemed to shorten it for single release reluctantly but the opening is not so appealing. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much for uploading this wonderful song and you did an fantastic job on the video. Even at precisely (4:05) where the reaction of the guy in the field matched the rhythm of the song. Was that a coincidence or did you carefully time the video to match the rhythm of the song??
Fair enough. It sounded like there were little enhancements in the song, particularly after the guitar solo. Must be my imagination. Either way, great job!
My understanding was that guitarist, Tony Peluso, had Richard listen to the song by Klaatu. Apparently Richard thought it was interesting and said, "Let's do it." The idea was mostly for fun - commercial success was not a concern.
Love this version but since I haven't seen it said, this is a cover of a band from Canada called Klaatu who became unwitting celebs when their album was thought to be the Beatles performing under the Klaatu name. As there were no pictures on the album this story no doubt picked up momentum until finally dispelled. As I understand it some members live somewhere north of Toronto now. Check it out. Karen's voice is beautiful but the original arrangement to me is a hair better.
did they ever get in touch with earth, or was this style of music not to their liking, probably took their interplanetary craft and went somewhere where the vibe was a bit more groovy.
Did anyone notice the final footage close-up of Karen's eye. It was a real dead giveaway she is an extraterrestrial, or of course somebody coulda photoshoped. Anyway she is an angel; that's why she had to return so quickly; along with Jim M. and Jimi H.
@takumainc this is not the full length video! Th efull length is the one with radio intro, and that was the official track. The 5minute version was for radio play.
Interesting that you used footage from The Day The Earth Stood Still, as this song was originally recorded by Klaatu, who of course took their name from Michael Rennie's extraterrestrial character in that film (actually, reputedly, the title was derived from the cover of Ringo's Goodnight Vienna album cover, which was also a homage to the film).
My all time favourite song by the Carpenters, Karen Carpenter had a voice like silk and just flowed out of her, gone all these years but never forgotten.

What a voice....Epic song
Confession: I've enjoyed and watched this video version of the song for years. It's always made me feel better in difficult times. I love this, thank you.
They don't write songs like that anymore. A very touching video to boot.

Well, it’s not from them but Klaatu (but this cover is still great)
Memories of road trips as a kid with my beautiful Grandmother Lewis RIH. 😘😘
Gorgeous and epic. The arrangement and Karen’s sublime vocal are just outstanding. Video works well with it.
Well done to the videomaker, absolutely awesome.....Love from Andromeda...End of message.

The same Peter Knight who worked with The Moody Blues and Barbra Streisand.
EPIC!!!
Oh this takes me back to better times!
Surly there were better times
That sychronisation to the music at 4:05 and also at 4:10 when he's dropped by the beam are fantastic, I loved it! A well-put-together video - a round of applause to you!

A terra é um planeta velho. Vai perdurar, ainda, por um longo tempo. Até então,seremos sempre nós. Linda música.
Karen loved modern jazz. That’s where her heart was.🤟🏼
i don't know why but i find karen carpenter's voice calming :/
Seriously. I placed a call, and they answered, its all true, just not the way you might expect. Chris
A wonderful wonderful song it gave me goosebumps

Many thanks for this clarifed version.
I will go listen to the Golden Record (Voyager 1). It would a sad discovery for me if Karen's voice is not traveling the galaxy, as our Celestial Ambassador beyond the Frontier of our Solar System. Ned, I enjoyed the video.
Indeed she is not in that Golden Record.
Bombastic in his Performance....

Great version of this special song song, Klaatu..
So good! Klaatu’s human name in The Day the Earth Stood Still is Mr. Carpenter.😉

A very nice cover. A shame few know the original

Ilove
fun song. karen's vocals are luscious.
Karen did an amazing job on this song...as well as her brother, I presume.....
at some stages in the chorus her voice reminds me of GLaDOS. Really cool song.
Fair enough. It sounded like there were little enhancements in the song, particularly after the guitar solo. Must be my imagination. Either way, great job!
Star families are coming here.

Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft
The Carpenters
Album: Passage
In your mind you have capacities you know
To telepathic messages through the vast unknown
Please close your eyes and concentrate
With every thought you think
Upon the recitation we're about to sing
Calling occupants of interplanetary craft
Calling occupants of interplanetary most extraordinary craft
Calling occupants of interplanetary craft
Calling occupants of interplanetary craft
Calling occupants of interplanetary, most extraordinary craft
You've been observing our earth
And we'd like to make a contact with you
We are your friends
Calling occupants of interplanetary craft
Calling occupants of interplanetary ultra-emissaries
We've been observing your earth
And one night we'll make a contact with you
We are your friends
Calling occupants of interplanetary quite extraordinary craft
And please come in peace, we beseech you
Only a landing will teach them
Our earth may never survive
So do come, we beg you
Please interstellar policeman
Oh won't you give us a sign
Give us a sign that we've reached you
With your mind you have ability to form
And transmit thought energy far beyond the norm
You close your eyes, you concentrate
Together that's the way
To send the message
We declare world contact day
Calling occupants of interplanetary craft
Calling occupants of interplanetary craft
Calling occupants of interplanetary most extraordinary craft
Calling occupants
Calling occupants
Calling occupants of interplanetary, anti-adversary craft
We are your friends

Fantastic video, Ned. If I might ask, which remix of this song did you use? Is it available on any CD/compilation?
I love this version, but always wondered why the Carpenters recorded this.
I agree. Great song but very 'alien' to their usual output. I wonder.
It was a cover of a song by Klaatu
My understanding was that guitarist, Tony Peluso, had Richard listen to the song by Klaatu. Apparently Richard thought it was interesting and said, "Let's do it." The idea was mostly for fun - commercial success was not a concern.

Excellent points, ER. The talent sometimes just does somethings they want to do for the joy of it.
Its sad they wont contact us until we fix the Earth
Karen had the idea... RIP
Love this version but since I haven't seen it said, this is a cover of a band from Canada called Klaatu who became unwitting celebs when their album was thought to be the Beatles performing under the Klaatu name. Karen's voice is beautiful but the original arrangement to me is a hair better.
Great song...The audio in this version sounds enhanced... even better than the CD version I have... is this a new mix? (or is it just my imagination?)
did they ever get in touch with earth, or was this style of music not to their liking, probably took their interplanetary craft and went somewhere where the vibe was a bit more groovy.
What if it's not "our" planet? It would be arrogant to assume we own this planet. Open minds means entertaining possibilities.
Did anyone notice the final footage close-up of Karen's eye. It was a real dead giveaway she is an extraterrestrial, or of course somebody coulda photoshoped. Anyway she is an angel; that's why she had to return so quickly; along with Jim M. and Jimi H.
Are we here?
Is ther ufo out threr or not maby i quit smoking and drinking at night
@takumainc this is not the full length video! Th efull length is the one with radio intro, and that was the official track. The 5minute version was for radio play.

I dunno.. fits the era of the song i think.. it's almost nostalgic don't you think?
Indeed. I would have just liked to see some modern UFO footage too. Would have brought it into the 21st Century "realism".
quality
Better than Klaatu!
Two different styles. Both bring joy.
I would've loved to hear Karen Carpenter sink her teeth into some hard rock!
I like the vid. Not saying I don't. Perhaps you'd be up for making another version with modern footage added.
Awesome! Thanks for taking that stupid DJ out.
AHS anyone?
Unsurpassable.
Anyone like this song for the pure trippiness?
Where's Karen??
I didn't say I wanted her out of the picture. I suggested some additional footage.
