Volkwagen Atlas Trailer Tow Hitch Connector Installation

Many Volkswagen Atlas come preinstalled from the factory with a tow hitch that is already wired for towing. However, it doesn't have the socket which allows you to connect to your trailer. Instead of spending $57 for the Volkswagen connector, this install uses readily available parts from Amazon that should run you about $25. See links below:

Helped me too! No mysterious secrets or anything, just seeing someone else doing what I’m planning to do provides a little validation. Wasn’t difficult to figure out how to slide the whole thing out to detach the cover, though including that in the video wouldn’t hurt.

In my case the red clip was very hard to push down and had to take the assy. out of the bracket to do it. Looking at the new connector helps understanding what need to be done.

The screws use a #25 torx bit.

Worthless. 20 seconds into the video, they run into a problem removing the plate from the receptacle and skip over the part of the procedure I had a problem with. The plate would not detach from the wiring, and another instructional video showed you had to maneuver the entire wiring assembly out and depress a red button to detach it.

You mean the part at 0:23 where I show the undercarriage view depressing the red button with the Allen key?

@@dayento2 Not only is there no description of what you are doing, only background music, one certainly can't see any red button being depressed, nor can one discern that you used an Allen key. The video from captain Don from Mission Viejo is 100% instructional
