  • After taking a few rest days, we started the second leg of our trip from Escalante. We followed parts of the Plateau Passage route, though we made a lot of adjustments to the route due to conditions.
    Hope you enjoy.

    OMG. The Notem road you took out of Capitol Reef has two branches out of Notem. If you'd taken the more westerly route north you'd have joined 24 near Caineville, and could have taken the Cainville road north from there, past Factory Butte, and up to a carry point of the Muddy river crossing, and over to a wonderful back approach to Goblin Valley. It's such an excellent route, I'm surprised you skipped it. Maybe you'll both catch it on some future ride. There are so many excellent routes across this stretch of desert.

      @RobParker8 Před rokem

      Hey David, I think that is the way Chris had us going but we needed a re-up and were praying for a store in Notem. Unfortunately the only thing in Notem was a sign with a war memorial and a song about Notem. We still sing that song! From there we thought it best to ride to Hanksville because we had run out of food, water and alcohol. That was a hard day!
      You are right, so many options, and we were winging it.
      Cheers 🍻

      @@pnwbikepacking Thanks Chris! It was fantastic- did a route through the Needles District of Canyonlands over Elephant Hill, then through Beef Basin and later Lockhart Basin to Moab. We originally planned to go through Lavender Canyon and Kane Creek, but my buddy decided he had enough sand in his life in Canyonlands. If you and Rob ever make it back that way, bring plus tires and make sure to ride some in Bears Ears. It's worth it!

    Great video! What kind of sleeping bags do you and Rob use? I’m looking for one that will pack up small for bikepacking, and I assumed you guys have some that do. Keep on riding and filming! 🎬

    • @pnwbikepacking
      @pnwbikepacking  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks for watching! I think Rob uses a Feathered Friends Hummingbird 20 degree bag.
      I have a few bags that I use depending on the season but what I most commonly take is a 15 Degree Katabatic Gear Sawatch 15 degree quilt. Both of these bags are expensive! But if you take care of them they will last a long time and nothing ruins a trip like being freezing at night! If I could only buy a single bag it would be a 20 degree quilt (Check out Enlightened Equipment Revelation or Katabatic Flex 22). It's flexible enough to use in the summer, but can also take me into the shoulder seasons with supplemental layers! Hope this helps!

    Forgive me if someones already asked this, but what kind of tent are you two using? I've got a few backpack tents I use solo, but that 2-man you have looks like 2 people actually fit in there pretty well.

    • @pnwbikepacking
      @pnwbikepacking  Před rokem

      Hey Faye! In this video we are using a Zpacks Duplex. It's truly a 2 person tent, lightweight, super easy to pitch, it's been the go to tent for Rob and I for a long time. I think Rob and I both had 25 inch pads on this trip. It's TIGHT with 2x 25inch pads... We may have not been able to zip the doors all the way closed 😂, or if you do it's really putting a lot of tension on those zippers. However with a 20 inch pad and 25 inch pad you're fine. I would sometimes even take this on my solo trips and it is a palace! Hope this helps.

    • @fayeoc
      @fayeoc Před rokem

      Thats perfect, thank you for taking the time to give me details. That thing is light enough to make it my backpack tent too. Your trip videos are really fun to watch, thank you for all the great content and inspiration! We are longtime backpackers, and just starting to figure out how to strap bags onto our bikes to try this out for the first time! I think it's a no brainer that we're going to love this.

    So far a nice video series, may I suggest that for people who spend a lot of times outside, get your selves some proper out door head gear for the times when your helmet is hanging. Those silly baseball caps are just that, for amateurs.
    Tilley and Filson both have wide brimmed hats that will shield you noggin from all that falls and shines from the sky above, please do not forget the chin straps.
    Thanks for the entertainment, your tunes selection is now bearable.
