@@How2FixIt1 Hi,
I own a 2018 ford focus mk3 61000 miles.
When should I change the timing belt and the water pump ?
Thank you in advance.
Hi so I’ve recently taken my cylinder head off because my old one cracked how would I aline the cams again to be in the right place
Did you torque the crank bolt back up?
Is it not necessary to lock the VVT?VVT locking gear comes with some cam locking kits.
Nice video. My 1.0L has us stumped. We replaced the timing belt and can rotate the crank shaft by hand. It does not hit the valves or make a hard stop and will spin manually. When we attempt to start the motor, it tries to start but stops after couple cycles. There are also no markings on the pulley or belt which makes it even more challenging. Hoping you may have a tip or insight. Thank you in advance!
Thanks for your comment. I dare say you need to look at the crank pulley closer. Lock the crank (bolt in back of block) and check pin locates in the pulley into the cam casing. I have had this before and is totally a light bulb 💡 moment. This is shown in the video- rewatch. Good luck and let me know how you get on!
Hi there thankyou for a very informative video.
I need to replace my water pump due to it leaking what looks like a core plug! Do you have and recommendations to make this job any easier? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks regards Tony
I can’t remember, but I think the water pump should be fairly straight forward to do.
you have to replace the crank retainner, the water o ring on the timing chain cover, the valve cover gasket and exhaust gasket to get a perfect job!
Can you put on some decent subtitles on this video please? Excellent video and keen to learn more.
Great video! Is there anything difficult about changing the oil pump belt? You mentioned using the Laser tools kit, but not sure how? I have ordered some of the gasket sealant, to the right Ford spec., but really difficult to find! What did you use? Any issues with HP fuel rail? Haynes manual says to remove the injectors, but you didn't so presumably not necessary?
Sorry for all the questions 😁
Thanks for your comment. The oil pump belt is really easy to change once the timing belt is off. I use flange sealant from euro car parts. Use it for all sorts. It’s great stuff. The fuel rail will be a little tight but with some steady pressure it will pop out. It’s no bother I’m here to help. Just ask away if you have any further questions.
@@How2FixIt1 thanks for that. I need to check again but i thought the Haynes manual said you needed to take out the fuel injectors and then replace the seals with a special tool, but I think you did just pull the fuel rail off the top of the injectors and then the cam cover comes off. Thanks again for your help.
@andyg5059 it’s recommended to replace the seals but I didn’t. And it hasn’t caused me any problems.
Cómo quitaste la tapa de distribución?
Is it a must to change the waterpump together when doing a timing belt job on these engines?
Nah. I would recommend it though, and it can be bought as a kit.
Iam just about to purchase one ...but after seeing this think il stick to 2012 fiesta with 1.2 engine ..🤔🤔🤔
What about torque on all bolts? Especially crank bolt? :o
Have seen they use specual tool for that 😮
Can I ask how you tightened the crankshaft pulley bolt as all the information I’ve found keeps saying 60nm then 5 x 90 degrees
It does, recommended to use a torque multiplier that I didn’t have, so used a big bar and gave it some! Obviously safest to use specs but this worked for me. In my opinion you will know when its proper tight and going no where. Good luck!
Thank you very much for your very informative video.
But tell me how did you support the engine ? (At 6 minutes of your vidéo)
@magslide38 sure. Glad you like it. To support the engine with the sump off I used a axle stand on the base of the bell housing on the gearbox. It supported it really well and would recommend this method.
I went
30Nm
70Nm
Removed locking pin from pulley
300Nm
Then 90 degrees
Then make sure pin fits back in pulley so you know the pulley hasn’t slipped when tightening
Haynes manual way if you haven’t a torque multiplier
First two stages was just me adding the 30 and 70
Is there a conversation kit to make it a chain type instead?
Not as far as I am aware. If you find different, please let me know. Great idea👍
It seems to me that it is easy to replace the oil pump belt when doing the timing belt. The shop wants the o charge me 3 more hours labor. Is there a lot more involved to change it at the same time?
Nah. Once the belts off it will take ‘em five minutes if that to change oil pump belt.
Are all UK fords like this ? Or is it earlier models ?
Most of the 1.0 engine fords have this engine fitted.
My wife has an 1.0 Ecoboost '67' Fiesta but has only done 15,000 miles. Can you spot the belt starting to shred on an oil change before disaster happens? It'll be 7 years old later this year. When do you think it would be wise to change the belt. Its has a full service history.
You may be able if you sieve out the old engine oil. Maybe apply a few spot samples on some paper and see if you can spot any belt fibres.
The later ones have apparently reverted back to a chain thankfully.
Not the oil pump one tho
Hi, Should I clean oil pump or better get new one? Oil pump cannot be damaged, it's save to clean it? I just don't want to buy new one if I not need? Thanks
Personally I would give it a really good clean on around the gauze. Some would change it. But have done a few jobs like this with wet belts and had no issues. Thanks for your comment and good luck with the repair.
I’ll clean it. Thanks
Do I need to change REAR WATER PUMP TIMING COVER
SEAL when I do timing belt?
@@vaclosimku602 I would recommend it. You could assess the condition when you remove it. But if it’s off and it leaks, you only have to do it again.
Yes replace the rectangle water pump seal on back of the timing case to block for water pump.
Also there is an O-ring on a plastic housing that goes in back of the water pump
I’d replace that also, it would be a right pain to change if that starts leaking also
Change both
Is the 2022 ecosport engine the same?
It is similar i believe.
@@How2FixIt1 Because some say it's not a belt, it's a chain.
@garaj1249 that I don’t know. Maybe you should do a little research.
Problem I have is this. Engine is on a stand in my workshop. I had it sent away to be rebuilt as the belts snapped and crankshaft destroyed. So i put the head back on and the timing pin in the side. Turned crank around till it touched. Then locked camshafts with two things which bolt down on them, and I put in the oil pump and then the sump with sealant. After all this I did the front cover and found that Haynes Workshop-data was saying to use special tools which fit in the ends of the camshafts. Multiple little bolts. One fit in and the bolts going through the disc part, three to be precise went through into engine to hold it there. On the right side the bolt holes were not aligned. Cant fit them. Thats my issue
It sounds to me like the pulley on the camshaft needs realignment. I’m not sure but or the pulleys free floating or do they have a fixed KEYWAY. If it’s free floating one, loosen the pulley and turn it to the correct position, then retighten it. Do this with cams locked. Hope this makes sense. Good luck.
Hi how much does this cost on a 2013 1.0 ecoboost focus
You should expect to pay around 600 to 1000 roughly depending on garage and your location.
here in Holland the dealership wants € 1.950 for it. Subdealer € 1.500 and I found a Ford-specialist to do it for € 1.095
it's very expensive, but not doing it is more expensive.... and use the proper oil! Also use good quality gas
€2400 at a dealer in Sweden 😬
U messed-up the rtv on the timingcover.
Just had mine done, £1200 UK dealership. I could not find an independent who would do it.
Expensive but no-one in their right mind would buy one without it being done, and would only buy at a substantial discount. The consequences of a failure are probably a write off. Only 45000 miles, but 10 years old.
Mine runs much better than the 2023 courtesy 1 litre fiesta that they loaned me.
My local independent specialist does them for 900 quid. Worth doing after 10 years.mine is 9 years old and has done 100 thousand miles and has been a good car not any issues.
