Please keep making videos like this. It's difficult to find channels that consider the console players.
“Or if you’re playing on console”
😭😭😭😭 I feel so noticed. Thank you
Check out my latest Let's Play series, it's console with no DLC
I never really understood old town policy but now I think I'm going to use it more often now that I understand it better.
Yeah. same
Me too
If you decide to use buses, be careful with this policy because they will try to avoid entering unless that is the only way to their next stop. :(
I created a mess for myself because i had small district with this policy and had few bus lines going through, but had no stops in them. Game completely screwed my bus lines looking for the alternative route to the next stop avoiding entering the "restricted area"
So if old town is used in every district, why don't you use it for the entire city?
@@edmunddavis2585 the people in destrict one cant go to distraict two with there owne car, if u use it for the whole city this is not working anymore. sorry for bad english
9:37 anyone else notice him talking about not needing bike lanes then biker proceeds to get hit by a cop car 😂
Three years later, and this tutorial is still helping people out (in this case, moi)!
Thank you so much for this excellent tutorial; there was little-to-no filler, and plenty of tips for a vanilla console player like me!
Another good idea is to have walking paths everywhere. I mean, EVERYWHERE lol. My city on Xbox One X is at 257,000 right now and the traffic flow is hovering between 94 - 98%. No buses. Only metro and walking paths. Most sims are either walking on the paths or using the metros, there's a few cars driving around but not a whole lot.
Yep, footpath tunnels under every road so the pedestrians have easier ways to cross the roads.
Do you know if cycle paths are better than roads with cycle paths for biking sims?
Thanks for explaining the turning lanes, they are so important on console when we can't use mods like traffic manager. I'm looking forward to your metro video, mine always ends up being barely acceptable. I wish there was a "highlight the whole metro and delete it" option, sometimes it takes a long time to delete my mess of tunnels to start over! The bus one will also be interesting, as I always seem to end up with bus conga lines, so now almost never use them.
9:40 RIP
I was looking for a comment about that lol
As a cities Xbox console player, this video helps me understand my options without having easy fixes eg mods available to help with traffic. I hope you continue these tutorial videos to go more in depth on each subject. Thanks for your help 👍🏻
if you want to have zero to minimum mods excluding some easy mode mods like TMPE, i suggest you to use something like network extension which adds more types of road to maintain road hierarchy slightly better, even tho current vanilla game has plenty of roads with smoother line count steps than before.
Pinching 3-lane highways down to 2 lanes to force lane change before ramps was a crucial tip, thank you!
YES!!! I never thought of that! Will save me millions of hours trying to force them onto onramps where they don't collide with other traffic flow as much!
Very clever!
You would probably laugh at the highway junctions/intersections I've made and continue to modify, but hey they work. :P
Thanks to you I'm gonna totally remove all my bus routes from my 70 000 citizens city. I've had it with the backups they create. And a city full of bus lanes does not always help. Time to completely redo those metros. Oh and I've dumped trams a long time ago too! Thanks for this. Great city!
I don't know, my bus lines transport 3000 people a week in my 30k city and remove 60% of the traffic. There's hardly any cars left in combination with the metro, only heavy traffic
You are an excellent teacher and explainer and you really continue to provide wonderful tips. Thank you!
Dude you are a pro at this sim game! Amazing how much I have learned from watching your series in the last week or 2! Thanks man
Excellent video, I've been looking for a video to help with traffic on ps for some time. I'm glad to see everyone doesn't resort to mods.
Awesome video buddy!! Very informative! That’ll be a big help👍
I am truly impressed by the quality of your videos. In particular this one is going to help me a lot to develop my first subway network. I am playing on PS4, this is my first city and the average traffic flow reached 60%, so the yellow area, I have to consider finding solutions for the traffic. I have started developing a train network for cargo especially. Well, anyway, keep up the good work ;)
Your building style of highway is pretty good. I gonna try it
Amazing video. I love this game but traffic is a major concern and gets frustrating but I think you've managed to answer all of my concerns. Thank you for the video.
I love that when you were talking about the biking policy at 9:40 we see a cop plow through a pedestrian.
Great job mouse guy!
Thanks for the tips
This has helped me out loads fella :) , I have a metro system in place...but....i kinda forgot to upgrade/extend it as city grew :/ . So I have with some very good tips/advice from you done a complete rework of it and have about 80% complete. I am making it free to use for a little while but then charge for tickets, this will I hope help towards clearing my traffic problems up. I had buses in place but will cut the amount of routes back substantially once metro is fully complete.
Once traffic is sorted would you recommend using taxis over buses ? or just stick to metro system? Taking into account I am also going to be putting mono rail in place in some areas.
I never knew about that the citizens being color coded for metro so that has helped me out as well.
Thank you very much for the informative video, stay safe and healthy fella :)
You really deserve more subscribers!
this helps so much
right now all of the trucks from my industry area end up going through the main road so i'm hoping to divert them onto a highway that takes them out of town
I can't get TMPE to even work so its nice to finally see vanilla build traffic management
Console player here. Thanks for this! ❤️
This was very helpful. Many thanks.
Man, your city looks so nice! Mine is always just a mess of zones.
Great 👍🏻 very informative !!
Wow, that highway pinch is so clever!
Nice, you start your video of the city with about 63k people, and your highway connections look almost the same as mine. Hoping this is going to be a usefull video for me :D
Great video!!!
IMO tram can work pretty well if it’s using a dedicated track, not along a road. I did this once and used trams to a do a commuter route from my city to suburbs, and then to a small industrial area
Super helpful dude. Cinetmatic camera tutorial next please...
you are so helpful. even after 3 years
Never underestimate the desire of Cims to thwart your efforts at traffic control. I have been playing the Tornado Country scenario and on the first effort I got up to 110k pop before I made the mistake of connecting my city to the top and bottom highway while having bridges across the river that splits the map my traffic went from 75% to 51%. I wasn't up to the challenge of trying to run multiple highways through the city to combat the hordes going from 1 highway to the other (mostly private vehicles) so I restarted and got up to 90k with no road connections between the 2 sides just ferries, cable cars and 1 monorail link. Everything was going okay and I still have 75% traffic but I just noticed something. A ton of tourists get off the highway drive to the nearest monorail-bus hub (don't know why they skip just closer monorail stops) travel to the ferry go across and pull their car from their pockets and drive to the other highway to leave the city. Fortunately cargo trucks can't do this.
This is why I watch vanilla videos even though I have over 100 mods active. I never knew about the old town policy. That could be hugely helpful.
Also, I think people misunderstand mods. They aren't magic, they don't fix things by themselves. Most of them really only correct problems or remove deliberate nonsense from the game. But if you don't have a solid foundation to begin with, no mod will make your city flourish.
9:43 that cop killed that person
Great video. Thanks a lot! Please do a video on the things you can do with intersections (stopsign, give way sign, traffic light etc) because the options were introduced to consoles not so long ago and I don't know how to use it effectively.
Remove traffic lights when there is a main road (2-3 lanes each direction) at the intersections that a 1-lane each way meet. So turn on stop signs there, letting the main road vehicles go and not stop. MTM has done a fair amount for (I think) every city build series.
You use metros like how I've been using buses, very cool.
I'm down to the 70% to 80% for traffic flow. That's why I looked this up. (Playing no mods. Going for the achievements) Excellent on the metro hub-stops. I like that and will try it. My blimps just aren't cutting it anymore as my city grows too big. Heh heh!
I loved these how to episodes I’m sad it’s over
There's still plenty we can talk about. Plus new mechanics with tomorrow's DLC!
This is really good
Great video for us, poor console players. Specially awesome that pinch lane trick.
Thank you for that!
1:55
Is it just me , or is that intersection actually angelic
9:42 Damn, the cop just hit the old lady...
I finally figured out what cause traffic in this game and sadly it cannot be fixed by players.
the developers forgot 1 key dynamic of driving: when on a 2 or more lane road, cars move the same speed. all highway lanes move at the same speed and no one passes anyone else. in real life, people drive in travel lanes and pass in passing lanes, for the most part. so no matter what we do as the player, the highways around your tiles will always become 3 lane traffic jams and every lane you add to a city road, the more they line up next to each other at intersections and slow each other down. there is no fix for this until the devs rewrite the Ai that controls the cars on roads.
Brilliant!!!
I’ve never understood personally because you open many of your cities up with a roundabout and they get backed up pretty quickly for me while I’m doing the same things as you
Can you be my uni lecturer.. for EVERYthiinng. You are very inspiring.
good work
How to fix traffic on consol:
•Dont build a grid city
•Have alot of public transit
•Have a central hub that takes people to every place in the city
I think not making grids work i think that grid cities are good but you should have highway conetions close by but free form ist also that good
doesnt setting less trains on on lines cut the expense of public transport ? I found it profitable and just about effective playing around this
Do you have tips if I want to use mostly trams? thanks
i use tram instead of bus and i love it
Is there any reason why you'd terminate one metro line and let another one continue the same path? I'm struggling to think of any benefits. It just forces people to transfer for no reason.
To get busses to really work on console or in your game. You really have to commit to buslane roads from the start.
I bought cities skylines a week ago and traffic is killing me. I dont have the policy options of "old town" and "encourage biking". I dont have a pedestrians only road, or one for biking. The game layout also looks different from this video but I'm thinking it's just because of updates? Do the things I miss come with expansion packs?
If you have the base PS4 edition you should have the walking and bike paths, they're under the landscaping tab (icon of shovel in the ground).
I think he has the Switch version, where some road types are missing
@@Marv503 well that sucks
Hi, I am new to the game and would like to ask how can I get those modern tall buildings that you shows at the starting part of the video around 0:37 ? Do you have a guide on it? I love those types of buildings.
its because the buildings are leveled up
fully leveled up
it can be a high residential building or a office building
oh yeah, and commercial buildings too
@@vitonamous thanks =D
good one
9:36 Cop plows threw guy on bike crossing the street 🤣
Move the mouse my city’s water is randomly getting polluted and when I check pollution it says the pipes are polluted what’s going on?
Most common reason for this is water towers on polluted land or water pumps picking up pollution from the water (which could be introduced by industry too close to water)
I wonder how you handle traffic with the airports DLC
I can't make a priority road on console, PS5 specifically, any tips
I LOVE THIS GAME IS SO COMPLEX
Yes! Lane mathematics!
I used old town policy and no trash trucks could go in that area.
That's the idea
Ummm...that 60,000 number i see isnt the population is it? For a city that big? If so, that would explain the lack of traffic
Bro how u get that menu in left side
My traffic is a nightmare 😮
Ive been having issues with population growth getting past 69,000
just being on PC doesn't give you access to tmpe
Neat
why does your cities skylines look different from mine???? :(
Wanna keep achievements on so thanks
my city is 390,000 traffic is horrible
i play on epic games so no mods
Turns out the games Traffic system isn't shit
I'm shit..
Well this one was hard to follow
Just turn off all stop signs and traffic lights. The game doesn't care.
Peoples are dying
