'Am I to stay?' - Kavya | Spoken word poetry

I wrote this poem in January 2023. It is quite close to my heart and I hesitated to share it.
You know how military folks have secret communication codes to identify their team members and to protect themselves. Similarly, I think poets use metaphors to protect themselves. We have so much to say, feel and express. But saying it outright feels scary. And so, we hide behind metaphors. Hoping to be understood by the one who should. But even if they don't, at least we got to express ourselves.
The biggest metaphor in this poem is the entire premise. This poem is not about a cave. It is about exploration, belonging, love, heartbreak, and an agonizing internal conflict. I find myself standing at crossroads, with a single question,
'Am I to stay?'
