In the very first episode of original MSG, they showed you a pile of civilian bodies who got killed by a stray Zaku shot. Fraw Bow's parents are among them.
The ending is also super poinient, to the point that its on your nose that they play the Opening theme, that directly contrasts the situation that Al is feeling at that moment. Its to say "hey war is over, BUT ALL YOUR FRIENDS ARE FUCKING DEAD!"

It really shows how far you guys have come since 2 years ago. I like how you incorporate your icons with the usage of text and movement whenever you're talking, as well as the VHS film distortion and play screens as transitions. It was worth the 2 month wait while it's been happening. Now all you need is MS Igloo, and you'll have completed all the One Year War spin-offs while still not having gotten to 0079.
I'm really pleased with how the floating text turned out in this, glad it worked for you as well. And yeah, we probably ought to get round to doing the original some time. :T

And with no surprise Gundam 0083:Star dust memories(AKA: Gundam: The empire strike back) take place during UC 0083. p.s. Little know fact, the Gundam series with a "8", 0080, 0083, 08th MS team, feature no New Type (AKA: Gundam Jedi) at all, only grunt doing grunt thing.
Finally got around to watching this one - best Gundamn romance subplot so far. I enjoyed this quite a bit even if it is lite on the action, they make it count. Thanks for the reccomendation! Also - you're almost 2k subscribers, hope you've got that serial experiments Lain vid lined up

I've been a fan of gundam for like 15 years and the way I explaine it is that a show or franchise created with the sole purpose to sell toys and model kits has no right to be as good as it is. Also, did you know Tomino created the new type concept as a way to explain Amuros piloting skills cause the sponsors insisted that the protagonist has to be a teenager. But I guess tomino fell in love with the idea after that I guess.
I find the whole newtype thing quite a dangerous idea. As a german it reminds me of all the master race bullshit a certain morron with a mustage pulled. But on the other hand no one is getting purged for not beeing a new type and them beeing all about understanding and peace seems fine. but yea not my favourite aspect of Gundam.
The thing I love about newtype is just what you said, in Zeon Deikum's original idea, was only the next step, something that would happen gradually, then Adolf Zabi family turns it into race bullshit, when none of then even got close to being a newtype, is a concept and story that I personally love, and the fact that they are essentially emotional Jedis is just the cherry on top of it all
I loved 0080 but will never watch it again, not all the way through. I can't manage it, even with the heroes getting happy new lives in Gundam Valhalla (Aka Build Fighters)

really like these videos but one thing that holds them back is the glitchyness of the videos in the background. i understand its part of the style but it makes the B roll unwatchable.
Yeah, it's definitely partly a means of evading a lot of automatic copyright detection stuff that CZcams throws about these days (and it's also grounds to defend ourselves in the event of a manual claim: no-one can make the argument that we're trying to create a stand-in for the original material when we're messing with the footage so hard). That being said, the background video used here is mostly cos Rob and I are big Max Headroom nerds: we could look into finding an alternative that might not be so distracting in the future. Appreciate the feedback though, chief.

ZZ actually have a very good second half. Though i believe if you read Belthorchika Children and High-Streamer of CCA it's much better than the movie as it was how Tomino intended CCA to be. But I guess because of some pushing around things got mixed due to Sunrise but generally Tomino Gundam works in manga and novels are pretty much brilliant writing.
I've never been keen on the "stick with it and it gets better" argument, cos a show really should grab you from the get-go. That being said I ain't seen ZZ myself yet, so I have no dog in this fight. Rob says he'll fight you, tho.

The earlier parts is just goofy stuff that may or may not be anyone's liking but it went into that direction due to Zeta being depressing during the final moment. Plus some stuff in ZZ changes half way in the show due to Sunrise randomly green lit the CCA movie. The same thing happened to F91. Guess the reason why Tomino went and tried to kill the franchise. At least from that outcome we gained Crossbone, F91 manga and Belthorchika Children.

If you're struggling with the newtype stuff, you're kinda missing the point of Gundam and just going "wow, cool robot". Look at the politics of contolism and take the newtype stuff seriously instead of balking and you're going to get one hell of a lot more out of Gundam. That said, it does require some understanding of politics, of psychology and Japanese cultural contexts to "get", otherwise it just comes off as confusing.
Honestly, the newtype shenanigans has actually grown on me over the years. It was a bit jarring in 0079 (probably cos they had to rush it into the plot), but it gets fleshed out as the series goes on.
0080 is among the Christmas Classics like Die Hard.
