Oh man that'd be fun.

another good one IMO would be Carmelo Anthony when’s the last time we really had the time to hear him speak. I think it would be good for his career to get back a little bit into the culture cause he’s such an afterthought

Make All-NBA positionless. You get the 15 best players from that season, and eliminate all of the technicalities of this player is a (x position) but we have our (x positions) filled even tho this player was better than the guys at (y position). It's heresy that Joel Embiid and Nikola Jokic can't both be first team all-NBA because there can only be one center on each team. It's dumb and outdated.
Fax they should do the same for all-star as well. Just pick the best players.
Yea I like that
This is straight facts, same thing with the all star game
I agree, but I can also see the counterpoint where one position may be over represented because they have flashier stats (mostly talking about points scored) when the game has way more facets and every player has a role. Some just happen to impact the spreadsheet in a different way due to their position
@@javierleija523 If one position is over represented then the other players that want to be an All-Star or All-NBA will just have to play better. The best win out even if they are all from one position. It is still the fairest system.
I think you can shine from any position. Embiid, Jokic, and Giannis are proving it now for big men.
Tatum's problem is that he broke out so early. He showed that massive potential and now anything less than all time numbers are seen as him underperforming. It's not fair but that's human nature. He also has the problem of being in the sort of no man's land 10-15 player in the league, people rarely think about those guys, they think about top 10, their favourite players and maybe an underdog story. He also has the additional problem that he plays for a team lots of fans love to hate.
Bro thank you! This is1000 percent correct and I wish everyone could understand this
Bro what u on he had his best year last year and he’s only doing decent this year because at the beginning of the year they couldn’t get there starting line up until the all star break practically and he’s still doing insane
@@lakotajulian hes right tho, jayson is solid but bc he was an early star the standards were high. plus hes also never averaged mvp status points, so it looks like hes underperforming. hes acc close to his career high but the haters love creating narratives. the only downside is he's shooting less efficient
They C's are comming.
@@vanescenze304 Nah, he was great early, a scorer yes. Now he’s a star and he is not that good of a playmaker, that’s the big difference. Him and jaylen trade iso possesions
The fact that Jokic and Embiid can’t be on 1st team together shows that the voting is broken. Make it 15 best players already
Jup, Embiid was the 2nd in mvp voting with a real monster season and somehow that lands you in the 2nd team all-nba.
@@verward that was crazy to me
Yeah facts. Positions are outdated anyways in the NBA
@@benroethlisberger2567 the suns have a center, ayton pg Chris Paul, small forward booker, power forward crowder and a small forward bridges. Back up center javalee, Payne back up pg and Cameron back up forward, they have the best record and went to the finals last season.
@Jscllatt you said positions are outdated but the good teams still play team basketball. The bucks too have a center, 2 forwards a shooting guard and a point guard,
It’s crazy to see how much he’s matured over time. I feel like I’ve been watching him hoop since he was 15.

I started watching basketball in the early middle part
of the 2017 season, and luckily for me my favorite team the Boston Celtics just so happenes to have the 1st overall pick and then traded to 3rd. Tatum is the first player that im getting to watch from the moment they get drafted to whenever he retires....hes my NBA baby that im watching grow up...hes made me proud
"I'd probably have to average thirty, and be a top two seed for anybody to say I was having a monster season." That's so true. I don't understand why Jason Tatum and other really good solid players around the league get over looked so often. It should be criminal.
If u not averaging at least 25 on strong efficiency u probably won't get a shot at mvp. Unless you average triple doubles like Russ and luka
A lot of NBA fans don’t actually watch majority of NBA games. The NBA has become a lot more about storylines and headlines for NBA Twitter fodder. The narrative is that Tatum is having a down season and the Celtics have missed their window. Since January 1st, they’ve been the best team in the NBA and Jayson is averaging 25, 8, and 4. This is around his career high. If you just follow the narratives from early on and not actually watch the games, you wouldn’t even know that.
@kaii231 that's a fact you have to be efficient not just Ave 26 on 42%

You already know there’s gonna be some serious arguments come All NBA voting this year. As JJ mentioned, players like DeMar get shafted because the media can’t decide if he’s a guard or forward - despite the fact he’s played 3 all year

Was thinking Bam Adebeyo
I really love how jj breaks down and get to the bone of the story. I really respect that this show has the balls to talk about things that main stream media wont. And on the topic of voting, a lot of deserving players are often discarded due to personal opinion and the same thing with over rated divas getting celebrated.
While sometimes it is biased (Shaq not being unanimous mvp). Tatum shouldn't have been All-NBA last year. Trae and Booker are both better than him and they didn't make it
@@dougiet.2112 Trae and Booker had to steal the place from one of: Luke, Curry, CP3, Dame, Beal, and Kyrie. While Tatum: Giannis, Kawhi, Lebron, Randle, Jimmy Butler and Paul George. Much easier to consider Tatum was better than one or more of these, while Trae and Booker are doomed. Btw I don't think Tatum should have made it
@@dougiet.2112 Why is Devin Booker and Trae Young better than him? Because 1 made the ECF and the other the Finals last season. Ill take the player that can average the same points taller and way better defensively.
I really enjoy Jayson. I’ve never seen him come off poorly in an interview. He’s got a very extensive offensive game mixed with elite size and athleticism. He hasn’t reached his final form though (which at his age is totally cool). I don’t think he’s realized how imposing he is with the gifts and tools he has. I think his critics would say that he settles for long contested two’s far too often, and without trying to be too critical, I think him going hard to the rim more often would take him to the next level. JMO but I think more aggressiveness puts him in the very top tier of players in the league. That said, he’s a top 15 guy to me and I agree that, particularly in todays game, they need to adjust the way they calculate All-NBA teams. A similar thing happened to Klay a few years back, also costing him a big chunk of a bag.
Been saying this for years, he's an elite finisher and his footwork is crazy. if he starts going to the rim more (which he has been lately) he'll be unstoppable
He really wants to be Dame sometimes. What he doesn't realize is Dame has to be Dame. He doesn't.
He’s been getting to the rim a lot this season. There’s this one game against the pelicans when he was on the 0/20 from three run where basically all his field goals were at the rim except for a long two because he stepped on the line on a 3 point attempt. Rarely ever see the midrange now with all the drive and kicks I still want to see him shoot the midrange tho just so they know he can still do it.
Yo JJ thank you so much for starting these interviews man. This is the best show to actually get to know players and their personality because instead of talking to the media they are talking to a fellow player. Awesome job!
We need the full interview!
It makes sense what JT is saying... shouldn't have opinionated media representatives affect the financial prospects of a player. Interesting that contracts are set up that way. Media and narrative play a lot into awards and accolades, yet we value them too much. Let's just appreciate the players and their games!
If you keep watching stephen a and skip bayless sure but those people don’t have all nba votes. Jayson tatum is good not great, is he over lebron, kd, luka? If he’s not top 3 in his position he don’t deserve top 10 money. Plus these players got all star votes and voted for their friends and 20% of the players voted for bench warmers.
@@chay770 how a forward that avg 26 8 4 not considered great? Lmao
The real problem is any contract that uses a vote like All-NBA or All-Star for incentives. Instead just give the player real, tangible, measurable goals like ppg or +/- games played or championship. (And contracts do do that.) Leaving it up to the opinion of media or even worse, fans, makes no sense and guys lose money every year because of what someone's opinion is. Klay had the same issue one year. It's also too much pressure on the media. If I were them I'd be like "I'm just here to spout opinions. I'm not responsible for your contract incentives." The contracts should do away with this stuff.
@@Harryberkowtz if you can’t comprehend what that comment was saying then you just a casual bum 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
Of course it should because that helps evaluate their value which is the main point of the contract. Being all-nba, mvp, or DPOY is determinative to how much I pay you. Even the nba players association agrees with that which is why it’s in contracts
It's all an image contest. This reminds me of the 06/07 and 07/08 seasons when Allen Iverson was snubbed from even all NBA third team despite having strong individual seasons on winning teams. 3rd in scoring, 7 in spg and 9th in apg would have been All NBA 3rd at least for anyone else.
U guys work hard , so many guests so often
i dont think someone not liking shot selection is really an issue. its the percentages he shoots on those selections that are less than desireable
its so weird to me that they act like tatum is this perfect player that cant be criticized. Hes great dont get me wrong but in order for him to be a top 15 or even 10 player he needs to address the holes in his game. great clip for the pod though
The process is greatly flawed. Wiggins being an all star starter is hilarious, especially over players like Luka and many others.
Do you know the difference between front court and back court?
So you would start Luka at SF??? Yeah ok
You do know the fans voted for Wiggins. If you feel other players should've been over him, other fans felt otherwise.
If you feel that way vote more. simple as that.

Yoooooo imagine teasing me with the segment and not dropping the full pod already
I agree with him the voting process is flawed but what alternative is going to replace it. I don't think it should be strictly stat based, that'll open up a bunch of other issues.
Exactly. Nothing is perfect and strictly stat based opens a whole other can of worms. All I would do is curate the voters so that the media members who are voting are the ones that really really care and actually watch games and agonize over it.
What i definitely wouldn't do is player voting or coach voting or front office voting. That sounds good in theory but every time it's been tried it's even worse than fan voting cause no one takes it seriously it and they literally just vote for their friends.
What if all nba stopped being used as an incentive all-together? Could that money be redistributed to somewhere else? Or to other incentives that are easier to quantify?
do what they said. Make so that the All-nba vote is just the best 15 players. not have specific votes for guards, forwards, and centers.
i think they should take into account a variety things in a new voting process whether that be missed games, record, statistics, impact, etc. things like that and that’s how they should be compared so they have an idea of how much a person is producing in comparison to other players. i agree it shouldn’t be based off stats but this opinion based bs is terrible lol the fact that they’d rather choose their favorite players rather than guys who deserve it is blasphemy.
Players, former legends and RESPECTED members of the media only..

JJ you gotta get the best out of Chicago to do it. An awesome genuine hero. Chicago Hero DRose . Please. Such a huge inspiration
There's nothing today stopping a team from playing 5 forwards and it would work if they were all talented and complimentary. The voting just seems to be very rigid for the tweeners who play a mixed role based off skillset. The irony is that these sorts of players are the best to have on your team from a roster-standpoint because they just always fit.
To highlight your sayings, on my Raptors, sometimes there are only forwards on the floor, it does not work often but it can happen🤔🤔🤔🤔
All NBA is them putting lineups together, so I can see why position matters in that sense. However it is outdated.
Would love to see Harden on the podcast, a lot of media narratives have been made abt him so it would be nice to hear his story

Jj bra you are a don when it comes to ball pods , ESPN sign this guy immediately!
A lot of issues with these things would be voided if we just went positionless. Whether it's All-NBA, All-Star, and everything else.
I agree with him but he cannot forget that the competition is extremely tough in the NBA, meaning the guys quote on quote "better" and "ahead" of him are no bums. I get that he believes that he is a better player, that's how it should be in his mind.
Especially at small forward. The top 5ish guys are like all hall of famers
Jimmy butler robbed tatum outta 30 million, butler didnt even make allstar last year+ tatum played 15 more games
We live in the era of position-less basketball, we can’t let All NBA or All Star be allocated by positon
Yeah especially if there's real money attached to it, which honestly I don't think should be a thing. I mean it's wanting to make all NBA an incentive but to literally make it a qualification for certain Max contracts....
The position stuff is the biggest issue for me. Modern NBA doesn't have strict positions and many teams play small or big. Guys like Tatum, Derozan, Butler, Klay and many more can qualify as a frontcourt or backcourt. Same issue happened in All Star voting like JJ said
the change is that you use more stats/advanced stats to judge things like allnba selections
Get Anthony Edwards on the podcast
The media will be the ones voting but then wonder why some players got snubbed
I mean at least the media, for the most part (not always true), is mostly impartial to the teams that they follow (or not). If active players voted, then players like Mcgee might get All-NBA votes just because that player is on their team... Just look at All-Star voting.
Also, of course, they will have snub lists because they might have voted for 2-4 players in, but the majority selected 2-4 other players. So the individual media voters will say certain player may have been snubbed.
Have you seen the nba players vote for all star? They didn’t vote curry as an all star because they don’t respect him. Most of these rich brats are petty
Great interview by JJ...BUT One criticism about that interview. Why didn't JJ get into Tatum's 3pt shooting % drop this season? The one thing Redick is a complete expert in is 3pt shooting (heck the title of the show). They could have discussed form, Drew Hanlen work, confidence, dad conversation, 0-20 streak, new ball effect, how he's being defended, Olympic stress etc
Jayson Tatum is one of the most genuine and down to earth player in the league. So humble and real. This interview made me a fan of his as a person.
Prime example of a need for change with All Star voting is this-when Draymond (a front court player) goes down, you must replace him with a front court player. What did the NBA do instead? They gave that replacement spot to Dejounte Murray.
Murray is worthy of a an all-star bid, don’t get me wrong, but why not keep that same energy and draft a front court player to replace Green?
The positions game in the All-Star voting process is a sham, and needs to be revised.
Not saying you're wrong about anything you wrote, but they're talking about All-NBA which is a separate thing from All-Star voting.

J played 64 and Jimmy played 52. Typically the line is around 60 games before people start taking it into account for All-NBA. If you pro-rate 52/72 to 82 games it's 59 games so right on the line. And if LeBron only played 45 and made second it's tough to argue Jimmy shouldn't make third cause he played 52. Butler's points per game were worse -- 23.3/36 vs 26.6/36 -- but he was a better rebounder, way better playmaker and *way* more efficient. Offensive rating of 127 vs 114. True shooting of 60.7% vs 57.6%. 9.3 win shares vs and .255/48 vs 6.5 and .137/48. And on top of all that Butler was and is a superior defensive player.
Jayson's entire cases is basically "I averaged more points and played more minutes so I'm better".
Also I get that they finished 6th and 7th but 40-32 vs 36-36 is not the same record. But I'll agree that Butler definitely got a bump from his Finals performance the previous year, which shouldn't affect things but it does. Sometimes when you're splitting hairs you just take the guy think is better and I think most people would say Jimmy is better than Jayson.
Were Tatum actually has a point is the inconsistency and how narrative impacts the voting. Julius Randle basically got Tatum's spot because Randle and the Knicks way overperformed expectations -- and he got a New York bump -- while Tatum and the Celtics underwhelmed relative to expectations. It should have been LeBron and Butler second team and Tatum and George third and give Randle MIP and be done with it because he wasn't better than Tatum.
@@michaelahurt how was he a better rebounder when tatum averaged more rebounds. his case is literally i played more than a lot of guys at my position, i have better stats than the guys that made it over me in my position, and the voters gave him more/just as many votes of guys on the list.. so how does he get left off ?
This guy is so chill, polite and reasonable.
Jason is right and they did the same to Klay when he was supposed to get his contact extension
I friggin love Tatum, admire the heck out of him. $30 million is an exorbitant amount of money even for someone of his net worth. One flaw in his game shouldn’t keep him off any all-nba team. Likewise I think he shouldn’t trip about this and redirect his energy to winning rings.
Winning rings is great it’s the reason you play sports, BUT the goal of a career is to get paid adequately to your value. Based on that he should trip on the $30 million and should direct his energy more toward that then the ring because the money is more realistic to achieve based on the contract
@@pandabear1576 incorrect. Basketball is a business and you’re correct about that. Likewise what’s more important is how you feel on your deathbed looking back on your achievements. I promise you winning even one ring is way more valuable in the long run than getting paid crazy money, and the greats would make that choice even if their lifestyles would only be middle class/nothing better than just comfortable and stable.
I really hope Devin Booker, Trae Young, Karl Anthony Towns and Jayson Tatum make All-NBA this year
Towns can maybe get 3rd team. No way he gets all 1st or 2nd tho. Same with trea too. Booker should be 1st team tho no doubt
@@Gdfsandoz I think Luka and Steph are gonna get 1st team tbh… I would be ok with Book getting 2nd or 3rd regardless but will see… I think I KAT right now has the lead for 3rd team for the center spot
L K trae is way better than booker wtf are you talking about 😂😂😂😂😂😂
L K booker most overrated player in the league
@@mid2860 you out yo damn mind with that book slander, Trae plays no defense 💀 Book better
I totally agree that it should be the best people
The all-nba designation tied to those incentives stings for the player. I don't expect everyone to empathize but imagine losing a good chunk of change (in JT's case its 33m) like that because the people who have to nominate you to a work recognition program to get it are going to feel petty about the little things in your performance. In some cases its not about the recognition but the amount of $$ you leave on the table all because someone else chose to believe a different story about you at work. I wish it would change in the future because the more you are going to hear about it, the more stupid it sounds.
