    Make All-NBA positionless. You get the 15 best players from that season, and eliminate all of the technicalities of this player is a (x position) but we have our (x positions) filled even tho this player was better than the guys at (y position). It's heresy that Joel Embiid and Nikola Jokic can't both be first team all-NBA because there can only be one center on each team. It's dumb and outdated.

    Tatum's problem is that he broke out so early. He showed that massive potential and now anything less than all time numbers are seen as him underperforming. It's not fair but that's human nature. He also has the problem of being in the sort of no man's land 10-15 player in the league, people rarely think about those guys, they think about top 10, their favourite players and maybe an underdog story. He also has the additional problem that he plays for a team lots of fans love to hate.

    I really enjoy Jayson. I’ve never seen him come off poorly in an interview. He’s got a very extensive offensive game mixed with elite size and athleticism. He hasn’t reached his final form though (which at his age is totally cool). I don’t think he’s realized how imposing he is with the gifts and tools he has. I think his critics would say that he settles for long contested two’s far too often, and without trying to be too critical, I think him going hard to the rim more often would take him to the next level. JMO but I think more aggressiveness puts him in the very top tier of players in the league. That said, he’s a top 15 guy to me and I agree that, particularly in todays game, they need to adjust the way they calculate All-NBA teams. Instead just give the player real, tangible, measurable goals like ppg or +/- games played or championship. (And contracts do do that.) Leaving it up to the opinion of media or even worse, fans, makes no sense and guys lose money every year because of what someone's opinion is. Klay had the same issue one year. It's also too much pressure on the media. If I were them I'd be like "I'm just here to spout opinions. I'm not responsible for your contract incentives." @michaelahurt Před 2 lety +4

      Exactly. Nothing is perfect and strictly stat based opens a whole other can of worms. All I would do is curate the voters so that the media members who are voting are the ones that really really care and actually watch games and agonize over it.
      What i definitely wouldn't do is player voting or coach voting or front office voting. That sounds good in theory but every time it's been tried it's even worse than fan voting cause no one takes it seriously it and they literally just vote for their friends.

    Prime example of a need for change with All Star voting is this-when Draymond (a front court player) goes down, you must replace him with a front court player. What did the NBA do instead? They gave that replacement spot to Dejounte Murray.
    Murray is worthy of a an all-star bid, don’t get me wrong, but why not keep that same energy and draft a front court player to replace Green?

      J played 64 and Jimmy played 52. Typically the line is around 60 games before people start taking it into account for All-NBA. If you pro-rate 52/72 to 82 games it's 59 games so right on the line. And if LeBron only played 45 and made second it's tough to argue Jimmy shouldn't make third cause he played 52. Butler's points per game were worse -- 23.3/36 vs 26.6/36 -- but he was a better rebounder, way better playmaker and *way* more efficient. Offensive rating of 127 vs 114. True shooting of 60.7% vs 57.6%. 9.3 win shares vs and .255/48 vs 6.5 and .137/48. And on top of all that Butler was and is a superior defensive player.
      Jayson's entire cases is basically "I averaged more points and played more minutes so I'm better".
      Also I get that they finished 6th and 7th but 40-32 vs 36-36 is not the same record. But I'll agree that Butler definitely got a bump from his Finals performance the previous year, which shouldn't affect things but it does. Sometimes when you're splitting hairs you just take the guy think is better and I think most people would say Jimmy is better than Jayson.
      Were Tatum actually has a point is the inconsistency and how narrative impacts the voting. Julius Randle basically got Tatum's spot because Randle and the Knicks way overperformed expectations -- and he got a New York bump -- while Tatum and the Celtics underwhelmed relative to expectations. It should have been LeBron and Butler second team and Tatum and George third and give Randle MIP and be done with it because he wasn't better than Tatum.

      @@michaelahurt how was he a better rebounder when tatum averaged more rebounds. his case is literally i played more than a lot of guys at my position, i have better stats than the guys that made it over me in my position, and the voters gave him more/just as many votes of guys on the list.. so how does he get left off ?

    I friggin love Tatum, admire the heck out of him. $30 million is an exorbitant amount of money even for someone of his net worth. One flaw in his game shouldn’t keep him off any all-nba team. Likewise I think he shouldn’t trip about this and redirect his energy to winning rings.

      @pandabear1576 Před 2 lety

      Winning rings is great it’s the reason you play sports, BUT the goal of a career is to get paid adequately to your value. Based on that he should trip on the $30 million and should direct his energy more toward that then the ring because the money is more realistic to achieve based on the contract

      @@pandabear1576 incorrect. Basketball is a business and you’re correct about that. Likewise what’s more important is how you feel on your deathbed looking back on your achievements. I promise you winning even one ring is way more valuable in the long run than getting paid crazy money, and the greats would make that choice even if their lifestyles would only be middle class/nothing better than just comfortable and stable.

    The all-nba designation tied to those incentives stings for the player. I don't expect everyone to empathize but imagine losing a good chunk of change (in JT's case its 33m) like that because the people who have to nominate you to a work recognition program to get it are going to feel petty about the little things in your performance. In some cases its not about the recognition but the amount of $$ you leave on the table all because someone else chose to believe a different story about you at work. I wish it would change in the future because the more you are going to hear about it, the more stupid it sounds.
