I've never seen someone write a character BASED exclusively on projection. But standing where I am now, there is no one I rather fight. He's the perfectly goofy antagonist for a game mostly comprised of clown behavior".
@@DiogenesTheCynic. honestly I liked crimson as an antagonist. A lot of stories will try to go out of their way to make the villain sympathetic, and while that's perfectly fine, it's not the only kind of villain. Crimson is a "pure evil" irrational antagonist, one that's unpredictable, unstable, and petty. There's no redeeming factor for him, he claimed to be fighting for Cascadia, but literally orangified it.
He's used to always being the best pilot in any battle, and the fact that another pilot, let alone a mercenary pilot, even comes close is infuriating for him. He's a character that you can actually hate, there's no "oh the federation is keeping his family hostage, you should feel bad for killing him" or something. He's the opposite of that "just because you are a bad guy doesn't mean you have to be a bad guy" meme. He's a bad guy, who's a genuinely bad guy.

@@MatthewSmith-sz1yq That's one of the reasons I adore Crimson 1 as an antagonist. Maniac, psychopathic antagonists are nothing new, but almost every time they have a sad, dramatic backstory that explains why they are insane. Not to mention, the portrayal - those characters are usually chaotic, crazy people who want to do bad thing for absurd reasons that no sane human would allow. Or they are just incredibly evil for no good reason.
Crimson 1 is an evil psychopath, but honestly - a believable one.
He is a person with an enormous ego, who justifies every single action of his no matter how horrific it is. He is in a constant denial of the entire situation and has no self-awaress presumably as a defense mechanism. He found the scapegoat for all his actions in Monarch and now has an obsession with him because he sees him and Hitman as the source of all evil.
There is no "higher cause" justification with Crimson, no "the end justify the means". The big evil in project Wingman ain't some pretentious villian, ain't some agent of chaos with no plans beyond ruining everything - it's the best pilot of the Federation with massive schizophrenia, something that is honestly rather down-to-earth.
Hell, the Torres Arc in AC7 DLCs is pretty much that idea - heroes who survived wars can become danger to society once that war is over.

Not a single regret. The hornet's nest we just kicked got nuked by their own queen, and that sore loser of an "elite" squadron led by a hypocrite tried to intercept us for the third time in the name of "vengeance" and still fail miserably
The land Cascadia forced the Federation to nuke because they invaded and devastated Magadan out of nothing but hatred.
@@glork3202Cascadia left them no choice. In between the Bering Strait, Sawaiiki, and their unprovoked and cruel invasion of Magadan, they drove the Federation to that.
People like to make fun of Diplomat's breakdown, but at this point in the game I agreed with him. Crimson's infatuation with pinning everything bad that's happened on Hitman, and more specifically Monarch given all that's happened at that point was frustrating. Especially since you're just trying to stop the bloodshed.
This, and the fact that nobody in Hitman (except maybe Monarch) even gives a shit about Cascadia or the war by this point.

Crimson One has a point...but in the most backwards way possible. Yes, if we are being entirely technical about the situation, Prospero wouldnt have burned if Sicario and Hitman didnt turn up. Their arrival more or less change the entire course of the war by itself, without them the CIF would have folded before any counter attack could be made.
But as I said, this is a point in the most backwards way possible. Because it was the choice of the Federation to escalate the conflict with cordium missiles. No one forced them into that.
@@naggie6358 also he seems to be like Martin Walker from Spec Ops: The Line, who blamed a... dead man because he couldn't handle the responsibility for killing civilians. in Crimson's case, it's fails before the Federation while being proclaimed as the top ace
I really loved Dip's breakdown, because to me it felt like the frustration of a rational person's reaction to Crimson 1's increasingly crazed rantings and fixation on Monarch; Crimson destroyed his home to put an end to the war because he couldn't come up with another way to win, and what good was Peacekeeper who couldn't win? And then when even that failed to stop Monarch and the Cascadian forces, he blames the destruction on Monarch and Hitman, almost like he's unable to take the weight of what he's done if it was all for nothing. Diplomat snapping back was such a good moment, because it was the frustration I was feeling towards this raving lunatic.

This song really represents the hatred that both Hitman and Crimson has over eachother, one blaming the other for the destruction around Cascadia.
I learned about Project Wingman around the beginning of Russian invasion of Ukraine, and when I heard Crimson 1 blaming the player, the connection instantly clicked- he's JUST like tankies who blame Ukraine for the war.

Damn, Crimson 1 laugh at the end when being shot down is so haunting after he realize all of his squadron are shot down and got beaten by a merc he thought Monarch will lose and end up like the others he fought.
After a few close listens, I think that it's worth mentioning that the transition into peacekeeper II has a very marked difference in how it feels as a result of Jose's arrangement choice.
The intros to peacekeeper I meshed 1:1, resulting in a very smooth transition, kind of like Crimson Squadron was scheduled into those engagements.
However, with this one, between Consequence of Power (iirc) and Peacekeeper II, Jose makes about 8 beats fit where 6 did previously, which results in a perceived tempo change during the transition. Crimson Squadron really means to not only take control of the situation, but utterly dominate it.
Crimson Squadron: a collection of non-mute psychopaths in the employ of the Pacific Federation. Their leader, Crimson 1, is best known for his enthusiasm for citrus; oranges specifically.
"Seems like the enemy's got one crazy son of a bitch working for em."
"Oh please, our entire military is crazy. We got him outnumbered."
Playing this with Glass Cannon, Ace Training, and Double Time is a transcendent experience.

I haven't even reached this mission yet (Prospero just burned and I just managed to return to Rowsdower) and I can hear that. The tone, the radio static. Everything.
The amount of times I failed this mission and listened to this song does not make me appreciate it less.

Those introductions add a LOT of intensity to the tracks, it's very nice
Peacekeepers are my favourite OSTs in the game. They really give you a desperate feel to it while engaging Crimson Squadron.
Jose is probably one if not the best video game composers to my knowledge. Marty O'Donnel and Sean Murray would be impressed
