Three weeks ago, i made a short clip of my trip with the ms Oranje in 1955 from Amsterdam to Djakarta. I was born in Batavia 1949 (Djakarta) and we stayed a short time in The Netherlands. (On leave) I don't remember the trip, but the family photo's give a litle impression of the trip. On one of the first pictures you see my mother, big sister Suzanne and litle brother Theo and myself duringthe so called " sloop roll" . The text in the clip is dutch. 26 knots was impressive for a MS at that time. Glad she made it through the war and actually had a chance to be the liner she was meant to be. New intro looks great!
Hello from California. Earlier today I was going through my mother's mementos and found a blank postcard of the MS Oranje. I believe she may have travelled aboard from Batavia to Amsterdam with my oma and opa in 1949 so I did a search and found your video! How wonderful! Thank you! Is there a way I can find the Oranje's passenger list?

WOW this was a really great video. I always knew I was saying her name wrong and now I know the correct way. such an interesting history of her. I will say that after her sale and rebuilding she was even more beautiful with a graceful profile. Shame she had to burn but at least she wasn't scrapped, and she sank on her on terms rather than be broken up and turned into "Razor Blades or Tin Cans". Thanks Jamie!!!!!
Thanks for the great vid! It's ... interesting that I appreciate your videos. This is because I once saw a BBC Horizon show about the reality of Freak Waves. Already having a bit of a fear of the sea, I told myself, "I'm never going on a ship at sea." heheh. Yet, your videos give me a chance to approach the danger safely.
You iterated@3:50; "From October 1946, until 1957, the ship was returned to her original owners, for passenger service". But @4:19, you also said; "In February '1951', the 'Oranje' embarked on her first around the world, cruise". How could she?? She was still commissioned, to her previous endeavor!? You probably meant; 1961!? It's a shameful waste of steel, to let a ship sink. I can see if it, had a high death toll, and let her sink, as a gravesite. But in the SS Morro Castle, they scraped it, even with all those deaths. Nobody died on the Oranje, and all that steel was lost. Good documentary, on a lesser known ship☺️!!!

My father (born 1924) was a radio operator on the ‘Oranje’ after the war.
