  • Alfred "Lash" LaRue made an appearance on Letterman's old NBC show on Feb. 16, 1984, giving Dave a lesson in how to crack a bullwhip. Dave's intro for Lash featured a few clips from old Lash LaRue B-Westerns, including brief snippets of footage shot at the legendary Iverson Movie Ranch in Chatsworth, Calif.

My dad said he was at a state fair and him and a girl held a cigar for him back in the 50's. He left the cigar full length for the girl and broke it in half first before my dad held it, and that they held stuff in the hands, mouth, and crotch. This was in Indiana. I was trying to find some state fair videos for him to reminisce. Do you know if any exist?

Lash LaRue was a personal friend of my family. I took him to show and tell in the 6th grade. I will always have happy memories of him in my life. He'll be featured tonight, June 24th, 2023 on OETA as the celebrity photo segment during their movie of the week.

Dave Letterman got a first hand lesson on how to handle a bullwhip from the master, Lash Larue....He had never handled a bullwhip in his life but lied to the producer of his first western in order to get the job. After the producer learned how Lash had gotten by with his deception, he hired a bullwhip trainer. Lash used his whip usually in the last scene when the bad guy was trying to get a way. He made one movie in which the finale was a realistic bullwhip fight with a masked villian...by the look on Lash's face, you can tell some of the blows were hitting home.

Now of course, many New Yorkers, and people worldwide (pants) have always admired the whip and what it can do to and for others, but one must go to or join special clubs for that sort of thing, or employ certain professionals, ususlly females, whose expertise in the art is extrodanary and satisfying. Or so I was told by both genders of the clergy. "Hallelujah, Amen!" (So they raved.)

How do you know that? Unless you have personal knowledge. This is how a person's speech can be affected by a TIA (a trans ischemic attack) or small stroke. Very common residual effect from stroke. His comments seem lucid and normal. I would guess Mr. LaRue has had a cardiac event. It is unkind to
make assumptions, especially if someone has had medical problems that impact
      their body language, etc.

@@danof1000faces I think Lash's alcohol problem came in later years...He commented about how much Fuzzy St. John drank and how he couldnt understand why....but then he met Fuzzy's wife who treated him like a child....Fuzzy couldnt even cash his own check. Lash called him "an angel unaware"....Several of the cowboys drank...even Gene Autry who managed to keep it private along with his affair with Gail Davis....but they usually stay sober for the personal appearances.
