I’ve had friends put make up on me and want to take pictures and I looked like a different person. But I also feel like that’s what everyone does in pictures. We try to do what people want us to do, but we don’t always understand why people do those things, so it gets REALLY confusing. I would guess that the majority of people who have online dated have run into a catfish. I remember matching in college with a guy who claimed to be a tall, dark, and handsome southern gentleman from Texas who was playing college football at a school less than an hour from mine (I'm from the Midwest and went to college here). He suggested that we meet for breakfast at a diner in my college town for a first date. I walked in and the place was tiny, maybe 12 tables. I was super confused, because he texted me that he had arrived and grabbed us a table, but I scanned the room and saw 4 occupied tables, none of which had anyone seated at them matching his description. Before i could text him, I heard someone calling my name, and it was a short pasty guy with long hair waving at me from his table. I am 6 feet tall, so I know if someone is not, he was not, he was lucky if he was 5'8. I was immediately disappointed but didn't want to be rude, so I sat down and ordered a coffee. I asked him about his photos and even though he claimed to play college football, he said his photos were actually from his JUNIOR YEAR OF HIGH SCHOOL. At the time we met, he was 22. He had 6 year old photos. Needless to say, there was not a second date.

    I understand the guy's reaction because she doesn't look like her pictures, but I can also sympathize with Tia because I think the last woman was right about her being on the spectrum. So you don't even really have to post it on the ad just tell them you will send a picture if they decide to meet up with you.

    I really don't think she thought she was catfishing. I'll give her that. She's making heavy use of filters (most people use filters) and shes getting those good "hide my doublechin" angles. I as a woman see through that, and it's not our fault that men don't know better. But on the flip side, we know they don't, and we can't be surprised when they are fooled then angry. I agree with the woman saying it's against ur best interest to use ur best photos online.

    • @ExtraOni
      @ExtraOni Před 5 měsíci

      @a1ntcry1noveru I feel like catfishing is inheritly malicious. You are intentionally appearing as someone other than yourself. She didn't photoshop these, I'm not convinced they are very old, she looks just as heavy to me. But they are deceptive. All of the things she did alone wouldn't be considered catfishing. Taking photos from flattering angles, using filters, smoothing wrinkles, blurrs, etc. Are all normal parts of social media now, but other people understand that you can't take it too far without it being deceptive. I don't think she has media literacy. Her language and disposition led me to believe she genuinely expected us on her side and meant what she said about being confused as to why he didn't recognize her. She doesn't think she overdid it. She thinks that those photos are just her at her best 🤷‍♀️

    I'm glad the woman in the black blouse voiced her suspicions about Tia being neurodivergent bc I was wondering that too (i work in mental health). There seems to be a struggle with insight and understanding ppl.
    Getting older is hard bc our faces and bodies change and society values youth so I get not loving how you look at every stage. This is where getting comfortable and familiar with what you look like now vs in the past is helpful. Having some hype ppl is helpful.
    Utlize lighting, angles, and putting yourself together nicely for online dating pics will get you good images. Don't forget ppl see us differently than how we see ourselves so other's opinions are useful and we need to trust them (as long as they come from ppl who care about us and how they deliver their opinions to us)
    Women are works of art! Tia looked good how she was. Uploading recent pictures will work out for her. And if she doesn't initially feel attractive she can always fake it til she makes it. The brain can change over time, if you tell yourself youre prettier than you feel eventually your mind will agree

    I don't think she deserves the hate she is getting, but I do see where her approach went wrong. Just like the girls who beat their face to the gods before they take their passport photos; you're setting yourself up for failure. When you pick the most glamorous photos for your dating profile, that is what someone expects to see when they meet you for the first time. While I think she looked really cute on her date, it was definitely not the same vibe she gave in her dating profile photos. Between the make up style, the wigs and possibly filters, it was pretty different. Her date look was a lot more toned down which can throw someone off when all they've seen is your more glamorous stuff. Your first date is usually your first IRL impression of each other. It doesn't seem like a good idea to show up presenting yourself differently than the vibe your dating photos gave off. She was still cute, but gave off two very different impressions. Very sad to see how this will hit her self-esteem.

    Her pictures all portrayed someone who is girly and put together all the time. She showed up having appeared to put in minimal effort into her appearance. I agree with 15:00 too about her seeming to be on the spectrum. No biggie. Many people are. If she just shows herself in varying levels of “fixed-up-ness” and also put the same effort into herself as she does her profile while being true to who she REALLY is, then she may have better luck. Dating is hard and the dating pool is often trash in the first place. She can field out people who won’t actually like her if she tries a different route.
