What a great idea. When we have a roast chicken, I take the bones and scraps and boil them with some celery, onion and carrots, and of course an assortment of herbs and spices, strain the broth and pressure can it. Typically, if I use some chicken bullion to augment the chicken taste, I will get up to six pints of chicken broth. With your mix of veggies and a jar of that broth with some supplemental water, that's a meal in a half hour. Thanks.
Same thing here 😌 My husband works for pizza ranch and brings home chicken frequently from the end of the day rather than toss it. I save my veg scraps and make broth with the wings and bones. I usually get about a gallon. I let it cool in 1/2 gallon jars, refrigerate it to get the fat to rise. Just used the broth and chicken today with some frozen mixed veggies and canned up 7 more qts of homemade goodness! 😋
Darcy from The Purposeful Pantry taught me that instant rice is merely cooked rice that is dehydrated. I think dehydrated rice would work better for quick heat up while camping, home for lunch, etc.
I always keep about a two year supply of instant rice in my house since it's so cheap. If doo hits the oscillating thingy I can use less fuel to heat my food. AND, thanks for this comment since I didn't know about the dehydrating trick. I love learning new things.
So when you’re cooking that you would cook it as if you’re making a pot of rice by adding a certain amount of water and covering it ? or just let it cook until the rice is done.? how much water would you add?
I live in Oklahoma and we are famous for our ice storms. Two years ago we were without electricity for 15 days! After that I bought a little butane stove and stocked up on things we could heat and serve (Mac & cheese, canned chicken and stuffing and gravy, etc). I am new to vacuum sealing but I know it’s going to become my go to quick meals! I cannot wait to put up soup!,, Thanks so much!!!
I love your videos. You don’t just tell us to get prepared you show us how. Thank you!
Hi Jinne, I went through my pantry today and found some dehydrated broccoli that I dehydrated last year. It's not much but it's plenty to make a cream of broccoli soup. It's inspired me to dehydrate more. Spinach too. Maybe even more spinach than broccoli because I use a lot of spinach. I like it in soups, casseroles, and in eggs. I doubt that I'll ever be able to buy a freeze dryer. But I'm happy with dehydrating. I'm saving for a wood burning stove for next winter.
Love making e
Meals In A jar like this. Do plan on make this soup. Thanks for sharing.
Girl, you make the perfect Cajun woman. We cook everything with what we call Trinity, which is onion, celery and bell peppers.
I laughed when you said garlic and onion should be in just about everything, because my daughter and I once said "garlic should be in everything, unless it's a cake" haha 😁❤️
I'm watching this for the 2nd or 3rd time and I decided that I would much rather make dried soup jars instead of canned soups. Either way they have to be heated up. Of course the canned would have the required water. Then again if one falls, breaks, dry easier to clean up or 5 second rule, scoop up and still use. 😊
I go ahead and shake the jars up to get all that spicy goodness disbursed throughout to give the veggies time to absorb some of the flavors before cooking. Maybe it’s just me, but I think it makes it a more infused flavor from the get-go.
When I dehydrate my veggies, I always have soups and stews in mind. Thanks for this, it will be nice to have some made ahead.
Thank you Jinne! This is a great idea. Quick and easy.😊👍❤️☕ Have a great night with your family.
Usually when I see you are doing a recipe using your freeze dried ingredients, I skip it because I don't have or buy those preps. But I left this one playing while I was putting dishes away ,and happen to hear you mention you could do this with dehydrated ingredients. Duh.. why didn't I think of that ? Thank you for a great idea when I start dehydrating veggies.
Your jars looked beautiful. I would love to see a video when you open again and prepare. You vacuum sealed, right? Thank you.... I appreciated this video...
Wow, had no idea on doing this. I have lots of dehydrated foods, etc. and can whip this soup out easily. Thanks for showing us how easy this can be.
Thank you🙏 Jenne. I just got a mini rice cooker for one of my seniors. She wants meal ideas. I have a pantry wall of dehydrated foods. We are going to make recipes in pouches.
She is a diabetic with heart issues. I have to help her to cut the salt and add the flavor. Blessings from Chicago.
That is so nice of you to help her! 💕🇺🇸
Watched your video again today. Going to make more soup jars today. Chicken Taco and Beef Barley vegie. Great channel😊
This is an excellent idea, thank you!
Wonderful idea. I can't wait to try this. My Thrive Life food will be great to use in these and no measuring when we're in a hurry. Thank you!
Jinnie can you give us a sample of your weeks worth of dinner meals❤️
I just made up a bunch of oatmeal in a jar, and I loved the results. I get so much enjoyment watching your sweet videos. ❤
Garlic and onions always❤️
Great soup starter to have on the shelf.
I need to get all of my long term foods out and get my family together and have them make the soups they like. Of course, half of them order door delivery. City folk, can't get them to see. Thank you. God Bless and stay safe
What a great idea for using my dehydrated vegetables!! Thank you! 🥰👍
Love the way you think! I had to reorder my dry goods pantry and used my swirl 3/4 pt jars to package some ready to go soup mixes.they are colorful and pretty on the shelf.
I would love to see more recipes. That doesn't include freeze-dried foods. Because I do not have access to those, dehydrated yes
I like using my jars for these as well. It's free and you can reuse lids for things like this. I like the meals in jars vids you have been making!
This will be great to take camping.
You need to do a cookbook with all your meals in a jar. I’ll be the first one to buy it. I can’t write very good due to arthritis in my hands.
Thanks for the information and to do a simple recipe to keep on hand
Oohhh yesss , yum !! Thanks Jinne
Love it. These are going into the vault for sure.
love these meal in a jars!
Love this ides.
Perfect!! Great for anytime of the year!!
I love these ideas
Was just thinking I should make some if these up. Thanks for the motivation.
Great idea 💡 😊
What a great idea! I’m not sure what’s wrong with me, I’ve been unwilling to open up any of my ThriveLife food, this might be just the kick in the pants I needed! I think with my crew I will add some beef dices or chicken. Also wondering about lentils in place of rice-?❤🇺🇸
Yes, lentils would work great as well! 💕🇺🇸
Same here. Those Thrive Life cans are precious to me.
I am the same way. I bought for long term. I tell my kids it is going in my will and they will inherit it, it is going to out live me. I was thinking lentils too
Thank you. I'm going get creative with this idea.
Cool, & Yumz.👍😋
TFS HC, take care & keep really busy everyone. ❤🙂🐶
Thank you
Hey sweet lady great idea, love your channel ❤️🙏
Thanks
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I have dehydrated all these foods and have been wondering how to use them! Going to give them as Christmas gifts and use them for person use.
Very nice 👌 👍😎
Good idea , thanks for sharing , God bless !
Enjoy your Video’s,however I would appreciate the recipe in the notes below your meals in jar Videos. Thanks…
Maybe I can do a jelly jar for one person then keep in pint jars. Take to work and add boiling water, steep and eat from jar.
Had to try this out. Husband approval and so easy. Very very good. Thank you
I like it when u show videos like this…. I’m sure it’s given so many of us good ideas …. Thankx so much for sharing ❤
Beautiful and great idea. Thanks for sharing. 🙏👍☘️👏🌷🌟💚✝️✨
Thanks Jinne. I've done chicken and dressing, chicken gumbo, hamburger soups. They've made quick easy meals too.
Remember ya'll to Pray, Plan, Prep
I dehydrate ground beef and vacuum seal it .... That would be good in there as well. Great video Jinnie 🤗🤗🙏 Kendra
Love your videos Can you make this vegetable soup meal, shake it all up together and just make a cup soup at a time and how much would you use for a cup?
Aloha hugs 🤗 you are so real
I learned So much Bless your heart, Freezer Ziplocj, concerned about Earthquake breaking Glass
Jinne, when will we see your pantry?
I don't think she would want to, nor should she.
That makes her & her family a target.
Just my 2 cents.
@@sandrajohnson9926 I think you are 100% correct!
@@sandrajohnson9926 You could be right, but several other YTers show theirs.
💚
Hi Jinne 👋🏻
Eliminate the onion & garlic spices & you have great base for pantry Dog Food. We are prepping for them too!
This is such a great idea and I am going to try this. Can I use an oxygen absorber instead of vacuum sealing? Thank u for all your wonderful ideas!
What size jars did you use for these measurements, pint size? Thank you😊
I just used freeze dried peas and corn for the first time a couple days ago in soup. Any tips or tricks to get the texture close to normal?
If you have a dehydrator, you could make homemade broth and dehydrate it and use it in the soups. Right?
Yes, you can dehydrate broth for your soups.
I was hoping to see you seal the jars I'M going to have to find new lids, I'm still not getting something right
Sorry I lost the footage of the sealing, I have another batch of jarred goods I'm doing later in the week, I will make sure the sealing is done on camera. 💕🇺🇸
@@HomesteadCorner Thank you! I don't think it woul be that hard for me to get it but it sure is. Got to Goodwill and we found me a cutting board, spice rack and a bread box. My it was dirty. My husband found 5 horseshoes that looked like they were taken right off the horse or out of the barn dirty. At least we found something we had been looking for.
That looks great. I have to place an order with thrive anyway, but I was afraid to order too much and not know what to do with it all. Thank you 😊
Is the recipe listed somewhere or is there a printable? Thanks!
Question please as I don't use freeze dried food. When you cook the soup do the veggies taste okay because rice usually takes longer to cook than veggies so I'm thinking the veggies will be overcooked if they are all added at the same time of cooking? Hope makes sense lol...
where did you get your plate rack?
Is your salt crock new or antique? If it's new, would you share where you found it? Thank you
Oh I love these pantry meals! Where might I find Onion Bullion? I’ve never even heard of this (:
She used Watkins brand. Our Menards store carries it, and l I would think maybe Amazon?
@@UpNorth069 i have ordered it from Amazon
How long are these shelf stable, approx ? Do you need to use a vacuum sealer ?
I have multiple recipes for making an assortment of "meals in a jar" from dry ingredients as well as some cookbooks that use only food storage ingredients and water. However, unless I want to package some homemade instant meals for a camping trip that is only a week away, I prefer to keep all my dry ingredients in their separate, long-term storage containers. This way if an ingredient that has a much shorter shelf life (such as butter power, powdered eggs or sour cream powder) goes rancid before it can be used, it cannot spoil the other ingredients.
Another advantage of not pre-mixing dry ingredients is that some ingredients benefit from soaking overnight before cooking (wheat grain and most raw dry beans and peas). Also, some ingredients can have a much longer cooking time compared to other ingredients in the mix (raw rice versus freeze-dried English peas). You never want to be stuck with eating a casserole or soup where some of the ingredients are under-cooked and still tough and other ingredients have been cooked into an anonymous mush.
If you want the homemade equivalent of a "steep and eat" Mt. House instant meal, you have to be very careful in what ingredients you select. You want every ingredient in the mix to completely rehydrate at the same time and be ready to eat at the same time. Always do a test by preparing a homemade meal mix before committing your food storage to making multiple batches of this particular meal. You may find that you need to put the raw rice or dried beans in a separate bag inside the canning jar so you can prepare that ingredient separately from the rest of the mix and then mix it in just before serving.
Would you double everything for quart jars?
Can you put the mixture into plastic bags and then seal them in jars?
Could you tell me what size jar to use and amount of ingredients for 2 people???
Jinne, I'm getting ready to make some soup in a jar. I missed what size jars you used in this video. Could you please tell me? Thank you! 🥰
Hi, These are pint size jars. 💕

@@HomesteadCorner thank you…scale is sometimes difficult….looking forward to making this recipe😊
What size jar are you using?
these are pint jars.
Does anyone no if you can dehydrate eggplant
You sure can, it does need to be blanched first.
I just have to see what you're cooking up in the kitchen. Just add a jar of home canned meat.
You cheet that's not doing meals in a jar come on
do u leave the lid on when ur boiling it
