  • Cellphones must be turned off and put away during class time in the state of Florida. Now, the Martin County School District is looking for harsher punishments for students who violate that law.

Do they have any idea what kind of atmosphere this is going to create? I’m a teacher and I say this is a bad idea. I am not going to be fighting with students & having constant interruptions in class over this. Also we become the bad guys and I can see this escalating into physical altercations with some students. I do not want the headache. They need to come up with a better plan. Teachers already have enough on their plates.

They blocked the signals in the classrooms when I was a senior. This was 20 years or so ago. It wasn't an issue. We just knew that we couldn't get reception. This does seem a little backwards though because some curriculums require students to use their phone or internet of some kind during class for certain assignments.

Good, they should jam the signals.

We already collect phones in our classrooms.
