- We had a chance to check out the recently announced Rift of the Necrodancer at PAX West, and it's a lot different than Crypt of the Necrodancer in a good way with gameplay portions like Rock Band, Rhythm Heaven and even Punch-Out!

Ooh, this is really interesting! They really went for something different compared to Crypt of the Necromancer.

as a rhythm gamer this is actually quite simple and easy. But game explain are generally casuals at most genres.

At first I was like “that’s it, just guitar hero but with enemies?” And then it turned into this awesome amalgamation for some of my favorite game genres. I also freaking love this art style. I’m keeping an eye out for this one

Oooh, I'm excited for this!! The art style is so clean and expressive, and it's really cool to see someone create a spiritual successor for a Nintendo IP that isn't one of their current flagship franchises. Now I really want to boot up the OG Crypt of the Necrodancer even thought it's going to kick my butt
Hell yeah, the first game was fun and Cadence of Hyrule looks fun as well so I can’t wait for this

This is one of those that seems easy at first, but you can tell is gonna get really hard really fast…

Accessibility might include something like a more obvious beat counter, like the heart, less damage to you or more damage to the enemy, or slowed beats and enemy health.

Honestly this might be able to scratch my rhythm game itch. Depending on the price and the amount of content I might actually get this

If anything, the gameplay is basically Rhythm Thief & the Emperor's Treasure. Granted that's a good thing, too few rhythm games of that type.
i absolutely love the art style, I didn't get too into crypt of the necrodancer because of how hard it was, but wow, this just looks amazing. I really hope it has some kind of mod support, I could really see people doing so many cool things with this. it might even compete with fnf
The first part looks more like Guitar Hero than anything, though I could agree that the second part reminds me of Rhythm Heaven and the third part being Punch Out mixed with Rhythm Heaven.
All in all, it’s nice to see the Crypt of the Necromancer franchise getting more love!
My impression from this is that it’s just a straight up Rhythm Heaven clone (which isn’t a bad thing, mind you) where one of the mini games are Punch Out inspired, as opposed to a mix of Rhythm Heaven + Punch Out for the whole game (which is what the video title kinda implies).
But only one of the 3 minigames shown was rhythm heaven esque. Wouldn't it be more like its just a rhythm game with punch out and rhythm heaven mini games.
@@ShurikanBlade I’d say drop “punch-out” from that list. The perspective is the same, but actions are timed to the beat of the song, and you can’t interrupt their attack, only attack after they fail. So it’s more like rhythm heaven with a rhythm (guitar hero) game.

@@mrshmuga9 It’s still DEFINITELY more like Punch Out than Rhythm Heaven tho. The only reason attack interruption isn’t in here is because it’d be timing that’s tied to the beat, so the timing would be too easy to get. Though, it’s possible there IS attack interruption, and it’s just not shown. Saying mode #3 isn’t like punch out because it’s tied to the beat is like saying the original NecroDancer isn’t like roguelike games for the same reason.
@Gaming Geckos You’re thinking too literally. Yes, the second one is the most obvious Rhythm Heaven copycat, but the whole game is a rhythm game based around a minigame format. And that is Rhythm Heaven’s whole concept.
When I say the game is like Rhythm Heaven, I don’t mean that it’s an exact clone beat by beat, with the exact same presentation and tone. But conceptually all of it, including the other two minigames that are less obvious copycats, is like Rhythm Heaven, because there’s no other game out there like it.
I can’t wait to get this game when it comes out as I loved the first game

How good are you at rhythm games when surrounded by a noisy show floor? Not being able to hear the game reliably makes it very hard to lock onto the beat.

definitely the strangest attempt of a spin-off i've seen. it's quite a weird one, what feels like 3 games combined into one is one that still retains the series's long tradition of rhythm heavy gameplay.

I REAAAAALLY like the concept of this, but I can't help but feel things feel...off rhythm? Like they have a rhythm of their own, but they're not matching the song itself...? It feels a tad weird so far. Lets hope it feels smooth when playing/on release!
It doesn't seem any different from the OG game itself to me. It's meant to be on beat, but it's not guitar hero by any means.

It was straight up uncomfortable to watch at times..
The successful hit sound can at times feel like a fail due to that crash cymbal... very disorienting. Doesn't help that whoevers playing has ZERO rhythm

Seems a little slow in general, mistakes aside. Hoping it gets faster the longer it goes on
