- The team hope to find the home of the Knights Templar, a major power in the 12th and 13th-centuries who protected pilgrims on their way to the Holy Land. Templecombe in Somerset is the site of a priory, home to an order of fighting monks, that dates back to the 12th-century. The exact location of the original building has been confused by later construction. The Time Team set themselves the task of untangling the ruins and coming to grips with the history of the location.

Long haired Tony is an absolute legend.
That's the most hair I've seen on him. =)
How is it still so brown!?
Blew me away seeing him with the locks. I’m glad he could grow it. 😜
Tony is the GOAT
It's giving Henry VII❤
What a time capsule from 1996!
Tony's hair is epic!
This episode is from 1996? I was wondering and then I looked at the computers. What happened to Tony? What is he working on now days?
As an American, student digger, back in University, I LOVE these episodes. Laymen have NO IDEA how tedious and boring these digs are. It's 99% digging in bad weather, mud and dirt, finding nothing and 1% pure adrenaline dump when you do. I did a few Viking digs in Ireland as an undergrad. I really love how these episodes edit out the monotony and get to the good stuff. I wish we had this show in the US.
We DO!!!!
Tbf here they only ever dig if there is something there. Otherwise its just big machines scraping dirt before building og development
Holy shit Phil's hat was actually once new! I just assumed he found it in a hole somewhere in Cornwall and that it was always falling apart
I just love these Time Team's were Mick spends the 1st part of the show gathering evidence for what will happen later on in the show, it appears Mick does not do anything in a hurry or a rush.
I've read lots of history books but had never heard of the difference between the strong beer, table beer and the small beer. Thankyou time team.
Bro medieval beer history is fascinating you should totally look into it further
The old guy who is a beer-making expert is fascinating - he should have his own documentary,🙏🏽
in these earlier episodes you see what the real Time Team was about;Mick is the person who co-ordinates the whole dig,and seems much more hands on involved than later series and more enthusiastic, everybody gathers evidence,Tony seems to be actually learning instead of just being sarcastic,it has a much more 'Time Signs' feel to it,which I think is how Mick intended it to be.
I couldn't agree more. These episodes make me feel so nostalgic. I always lived watching these types of shows, and it was my dream to be another Phil when is was a wee one. Just imagine being there in person, truly experiencing history first hand. This is the closest we will come to a time machine. At least in my opinion, but who knows?
Time signs was how he intended it to be alright but the work product seems to have evolved along a life path all its own over it's Initial run. Now the CZcams reboot is really nice. They've got a handful of new production episodes on the channel "time team official" it's amazing what geophys gets up to anymore. Jimmy's now driving a rig instead of pushing it, they use lidar and drones instead of helis. It's amazing
St John’s Hospitallers still exists in the Old City of Jerusalem. Tourist (pilgrim? ) rooms are still let out for travelers. The meals are included in a common room.
I understand that the St. John's, ? Auxillary?, was active during WWII.
That is a pilgrim stop off yes and yes the St Johns Aux was active in world war two
Love Tony's enthusiasm, well that and his hair lmao
The Knights Templar were distroyed by the french king at the time(forget which one). He was deeply in debt and the coffers were totally empty. So he took the templers money and property. Oh and I might mention he was in debt to the templars so when he distroyed/disbanded the templars he no longer had to pay the debt.
And so many Templars were MURDERED
LOVE the older episodes ! Thank you Time Team !!!!!
Love these guys.

Mick veing ao much more polite than tony about asking to go into yrenches is so endearing lol
Not finding some things can still be instructive, I think. Like an old time map: "Here there be nothing!"
Tony has an archeologist Angus Young vibe going on. 😂
Amazing!! 😊👌
I was just thinking wouldn't it be strange if, I don't know, that the real sight of the Knights Templar place was actually a half a mile away from where they're digging now.
Tony and Mick remind me to Marty McFly and Doc Brown. 😅
😎Phil is crazy cool 👍
4:33 Mick's pen is the most 90's thing I've seen in a while. (Says "Digital Music " on it. Not sure what it is from)
Dang I wish I was Tony. He’s so cool
At 5:34 he called Dan Snow Dan Jones lmfao 😂
They're different people
well cheery those chaps
Never saw them this young lol Tony looks like a 15 year old 40 year old, but mick always looks the same age lol
DAYOOSE VUL-T once again
I met a woman in California who said her family came from Europe with the Templars.
On a crusade to Cali?
She is wrong. That'd be awesome though
@@SladetheBlade.. I don't know. She was all grey haired and barely in her 30s.
@@AethelwulfBretwalda Why would I question what she said about her family roots? I have stories about Eric the Red landing in Hawaii so why would the Templars reaching USA be a lie? There are many videos on Templar treasure buried on Oak Island?
@@AethelwulfBretwaldais she wrong ? I’m one of those family members, HISTORY and Antiquities of LEICESTERSHIRE, pedigree of Temple , Henry Del Temple third son of leofric and lady Godiva, United States won’t allow us to link our DNA with England on ancestry sites m but I happen to have the history
Tell Oak Island about this.
13 minutes and the 3rd commercial makes this almost unwatchable.
CZcams is as bad as Commercial TV sometimes.
I feel as though they so not come on as frequently whilst using a mobile device. Anytime I watch (literally) anything through my TV, i have to navigate through loads of commercials
@@PGBRTRM true
..man this is old/early..Tony's got long brown hair >
Everybody makes videos about the Templars but we knew that they were absolute scoundrels. It would be awesome if there could be more videos about the Knights Hospitaller, which was a much more noble group of martial monks.
V from what sources do you make that claim
I NOTICE THAT THE HAY/STRAW INSULATION, IS SIMILAR TO THE EARLY (WW1/WW2 SLOW COOKER & A WAY TO SAVE ENERGY!!
yup - a 'hot box'. also used in soap making to insulate the soap to slow down the cooling process so it doesn't crack. I have used the hot box method, using a cooler & towels. It will roast a chicken to perfect tenderness.
Sounds legit Summerset and the English accent..makes it sound Almost Latin..
Anyone else place the season in time of filming by the amount of hair on everyone's head?
Jeff Wilson: (lowers the flag and stuffs it into the bushes) Americans: *(gasp and faint)*😮
Hahaha. But I do wonder why he took it down. Maybe the Producers asked him to? As a citizen of the US, I do find it ridiculous how "Americans" are about the National flag. No other country behaves so crazy. We even have law about how and when it can be used.
What era is this documentary dig?
What a time capsule from 1996! It used to be a very popular show called Time Team. I think this particular dig was aired in 1996, dont quote me on it tho. I hope this helps you...
I had a dream...That in my backyard..
...I dug a hole to China..
Taught Pandas to dance..
And sang for the Emperor.
Not quite a Haikku, but the image lingers like umamai on my brain buds. Good evening to you!
🤔 what makes them think that “severed head” is Jesus? IMO it’s John the Baptist, who was not only Jesus cousin but was executed by beheading. Jesus was crucified on the cross. John was also believed to be an Essene. A secret group linke the templars.
Tony said the pic looks like the shroud of Turin? 😂
The man in the shroud (Jesus imo) had his eyes closed, and mouth too.
Commercials do nothing but get you mad! Why would they thing we would even enjoy or listen to them! Stupid!
A PICTURE OF CHRIST ON AN OUTHOUSE?...THAT'S BLASPHEMY, WHY WERE THEY WORSHIPING WHILE TAKING A DUMP? LOL
God bless Mick and his striped jumper. RIP, mate.
catch a John Wayne movie back in the Day 76 I believe” Brannigan” Tonys part is hilarious
