After 9 months, I called 1st Premier Bank and told them I was getting rid of their card. I had put down 200 dollars security. They didn`t want me to so they said let us mail an offer and check it out first. I did, it was unsecured. My 200 dollar limit went to 300 dollars but I had to pay a 95 dollar program fee and 75 annual fee I didnt. I have other unsecured cards.
@Shawn I`ve been 1st Premier free now for a few months .Now I need to get rid of 1st savings. This month will be a year with no credit raise from 350 dollars. And Fit, they didn`t credit Decembers payment. Instead of 35 dollars I paid 100. ( December, this month and late fee ) It`s gotta go
Get both your scores up at least 100 points each. In the meantime, see if someone with a great credit score will add you to their cards. It’s a plus if they have 7 years of good credit history, including on time payments.
I have never had to declare bankruptcy or anything, and I never had a secured card or a student card. My very 1st card was with Citibank at the age of 20 in May of 2000. I made the mistake since I was in between jobs and not kept open due to inactivity. I wish I still had it. My history even though it's at 100% payment history would have been over 20 years. You live and learn. Now my oldest credit card is the chase freedom unlimited open back in June of 2021. I guess the only take away is that my old citi card will be on my record for 10 years after being closed out due to inactivity in 2015. At 100% good standing. Never making that mistake again of closing my oldest credit card.
I had a great experience with Discover. Had a $400 secured card, 'graduated' in 6 months and limit was bumped to $1000. I also have a checking and savings with Discover. Their debit card has a 1% cash back.
Corporate America Family Credit Union and Justice Federal Credit Union will let you have a secured card with only a 100 dollars. They graduate in 9 to 12 months and America First Credit Union graduates with 200 dollars after 6 months. I have all 3 of these cards. Almost forgot, no annual fee on any of these 3 cards.

For the life of me Discover will not give me a secured credit card. I have a unsecured Capital One, a secured Capital One and a secured card from my credit union all with good payment history. I don't understand it. Can you tell me why?
It’s an anomaly. I was approved in 2017 but took too long to send the deposit. Didn’t get approved again until yesterday lol. Making sure I deposit by Thursday.
I would call Discover for that question. The can tell you what card you get. I don't understand question to be honest. On a points system when dine you get 3 and buy gas and grocery it's 2 and anything else except buying any type of card you get one point. When you accumulate enough points that's how you get your cash back. You change points for cash but need like 2500. One point is treated as a penny to the banks. I'm not a Discover user so I don't how they do points on the low tier card. My bank had points this way I get points but new customers only get one point now.
Hi, Adam, I graduated on Friday the 11th. On my TD Bank Secure Card. Any TD Bank secure card holder should Expect 8-9 months to graduation They do tell you it's after the 7th month from the statement cycle. It does happen on the day after that. Yay for me! I just graduated to the Cash card. Boo! It sucks when they graduate a card holder. I charged another annual fee of $9.67. This rewards sucks because I don't ever get the highest percentage on purchases at restaurants because the don't use the designated MCC number so I got screwed on paying a card that gives me one point. When you see that is like for another ahead on it. It looks prorated for the same Unsecure card. I got my card 3-2-1 rewards before the change over in the Spring. I don't know. So on Monday I'm going to see I can make a transfer to the TD Bank Double Up card. Definitely as you can see with having to pay another annual fee on top of the $29.00 I paid in March is that they want to keep in the credit card bucket for the annual fee cards rather than transfer card holder to the same card with no annual fee. I'm also going to ask on Monday to see if I can get my credit limit increased. The goal is $3000. So it will take awhile to get there.
I subscribe since I been wanting to build back my credit after horrible decisions on my 20s 😓 What do you think of the ones that CK offers? Or should I just open one up with Chase?
You don't have to but regardless of what it is, it's going to get reported on all credit reports. I don't care right now concerning my own. This number is going to change from the charges that you have from your bill to new ones and to the amount of payments that you make. I over come this utilization myth by making regular payments on my card. The more payments you make goes much further with the banks than utilization part of it. The only time this matters is how many credit applications your going to apply for anytime soon. As for your auto insurance score on this subject it's mostly kind of useless because they don't go with 30% figure they want an all impossible single digit number which defeats the purpose of having a credit card in the first place. I have one credit card and that is it, no other loans. So I don't care what my credit report looks like other than good with a green check mark. They aren't going to call you begging you to make payments to lower it to 29%. What you do is just make payments and I'm not talking about the one monthly minimum payment. I'm saying pay off the monthly bill. That doesn't mean you have to have a zero balance you just pay off what your closing date amount is, while making new charges which will to on the following months bill.
