"If she's not leaking oil, she's out of oil."
😂 😂 😂
So like a Land Rover, Cummins and Detroit Diesel.🤣
If you go to an aircraft museum like Planes of Fame in Chino, you'll see pans of cat litter under the engines of many of the aircraft on display specifically to catch the oil leaking out of the engines of the runners. I can't prove it without doing a ton of research, but I suspect that, like the SR-71 that leaked fuel until it got to speed and the airframe heated up, the engines were designed to be more oil-tight when at operating temperature and the components expanded a bit, and when cold, the seals were less tight.
@@seanmalloy7249 I'm no expert for this kind of engines - but I think you're spot on.
Generally, all measurements inside an ICE are dimensioned to warm condition.
This is why a warmed-up engine has (basically) no wear - whilst a cold one has plenty.
For the same reason, buying a car with super-low milage always holds the danger of getting a (very, very worn) short-trip car. The actual wear is multiple times higher than the indicated milage.
A high-milage on the other hand is almost impossible to reach only on a cold engine. Once it's warmed up - no more wear. This is what you want.
Those engines run with a little bit of care until forever and a day.
Therefore, 200,000km on the clock can be much, much better than 40,000km.
I used to own a 2003 Seat Ibiza (basically, a VW Polo - but a lot less ugly) with the trusty old 1,9L TDI Diesel engine. Bought it with 205,000km - scrapped it 5 years later with 255,000 - as it was easier than selling it. Emission laws and stuff.
The turbo started to lose top-end power - but it was still the first one. The engine itself was still perfect. Very smooth at idle for that kind of Diesel - basically no oil consumption.
Sounds like a Harley…no wait, that’s if it ain’t broke, it ain’t a Harley.
Awesome work Sofi !! These Canadian War Museum folk are fascinating and so enthusiastic. You're so lucky to meet people like this and the guys from PIMA and Rob Cogan . Very jealous !
OMG.. that is so awesome to see a Ram running!! Thank you for sharing this!
A Ram is a rare treat , so few left at all .
Your content is a continuous pleasure!
a tank named after our native animal in canada. nice to know.
She's a hot rod! ❤
Come on Comander Sofilein take her for a ride! 😉
Love your content Sofi. Most of the people you interview are a joy to learn from.
Dont often see these but they played a important part in WW2 liberation of northern Europe. Farther of the Bradly.
As always excellent production
Nothing like watching Sofilein do an upper body strength workout.
where's the Sofilein /Leanbeefpattie collab 😮😅😊
I seen her in a sweater once. Yikes. She's needs nothing. If she wore that sweater, that thang would crank itself
@@tomhowe1510 touch grass
WOW Sofi great history, it is sad we lose so much of our WWII everyday. Thank you for doing these video's.
Good to see you!
These dudes are cool as hell.
It doesn't always have to be German stuff. This is a really interesting topic.
I did not know about this APC... Nice to find out something new...
It is a ram with the turret removed
I see... 😊 Better as an APC than a tank, I think..@@Will_CH1
@Will_CH1 yes, and it's purpose was as an APC.
@@f1matt Actually, its purpose was a gun tank. It was repurposed as an apc because the US government tried to standardize all western armies on the M4 series.
That's what I like about Sofi. She's a fun person who's down to try anything. Whether it's turning over the cylinders on a radial engine, or popping in and out of a small tank like a ferret, Sofi is game for it.
These events are amazing opportunities to learn! Some folks just bring their vehicles to show and some really let visitors get involved with them and it’s awesome to see, and awesome when I can be that visitor getting involved too!
Ferret? LOL
@@jakester455 I can't remember the video, but yeah.
I wanna see her teach the chieftain how to be ferret-like lol
Thanks, Sofilein See you at Aquino I am one of the museum members in Oshawa, watch for the red vest crew we supply all of museum with their black powder needs. Come by the small arms table and Say Hi. Once again always enjoy your videos very informative.
Great video Sofi! Informative and entertaining. Never realized how tall the hull is on the ram/kangaroo. I can see why the crew was upset when the powers that be eliminated the side hatch. Good thing fuel and oil was cheap and plentiful and cheep in 1942! (God bless Texas and Oklahoma!!!!) And of course it is always good to hear a fellow connoisseur sing the praises of the Sherman Tank. I’m sure we could be great pals!👍🤣👍
Only learned recently we have a Kangaroo that is a runner!
Great presentation, as ever, Sofilein. British people, like me, tend to struggle with distinguishing North American accents, but those "oot" and "aboot" sounds are so Canadian.
That and they two introduce themselves as part of the Canadian War Museum contingent at Aquino.
The pilot model's turret and upper hull casting was produced in the US by General Steel Castings and later they aided the set up of Canadian production. Montreal Locomotive Works was chosen to make the new Canadian M.3 Cruiser Tank. MLW was a subsidiary of the American Locomotive Company, which had experience in producing large castings and Alco was producing cast hulls for the M3 Medium.
Most critically the Ram's Continental engine and transmissions were available only in the USA and these were always in short supply.
If you can cast a locomotive frame, you can cast anything!
@@alaingadbois2276 Probably correct however my points are MLW was a subsid. of a US company and engines and transmissions came from the US.
And were virtually free after Lend Lease, March 1941.
That was a great video with guys that love their machine
I love the sounds of battle in the background as they casually chat...
The radio was a blast - my mom spent the war making vacuum tubes.
Old school cool. Kudos to the volunteers involved and custodians of these historical beasties. 😎❤
Outstanding work thanks
Sophie is the flower of the channel!
Hi Sofi, I was there last year and it was an honor to be able to meet you.
Dad drove Rams during the war along with Valentines, Churchills, and Vickers tankettes before being shipperd to Italy where he drove Shermans and then Belgium and Holland. He said because of the air cooled engine the Rams got to be very hat inside.
We wait anxiously ✌️
This is great! This is an interesting APC, because most of the period were comparatively lightly armored. Plus, conversions and repurposed vehicles interesting to me because there are always challenges involved from a design standpoint. There are just a handful of Kangaroo vids on YT, and none of them I've seen are as in-depth. Loved it!
Yeah they did an awesome job sharing about it! I spend a lot of time focusing on the camera and stuff while I’m recording and I get to REALLY listen later and it’s always such a treat.
I've missed you, Sofilein. You're my favorite tread-head. I haven't yet won the lottery, but when I do I still promise to buy you a tank.
Do you want to get dirty? Sure!
Sofilein... you're quite the trooper...if only we had clones of you when I served in the 70-80's. 😊 Gotta love your enthusiasm.
Ooh nice. Cant wait!
You did AWESOME at the production quality , the audio is like being there. That thing rolling up on you would sure put the fear of death on a person.
Another very interesting video with two nice collectors of historical vehicles and the undercarriage of an M4A1 Sherman tank. It seems that as a driver you have to be under 25 years old and have the build of a blacksmith.
I hope you made more videos at this event. Thank you very much for the pictures and keep it up. 😊👍
I uploaded most of them last year but I have one more to release before Aquino 2024 to build the hype 😎
that was great, a beast.
I remember seeing this when I worked at the War Museum in Ottawa. Nice to see it back in action.
Thank you!
🙂
TY. Brilliant , honest news about a forgotten design of Canadian origin . Perhaps the RAM was the first Sherman, with a turret, over the accepted knowladge about the Sherman .
TY team. you guys are great, ty sofielien also for the female input of that warrior spirit.
these people missed something during the rebuild which is why you send engines out to be rebuilt. It should not be leaking oil to such an extent . New replacement seals and gaskets are much better than the old ones of the 1940's.
Welcome to Ontario, Canada.
very good
Pretty cool seeing this ,but love watching Sofi get in there and do her best !!!! Sofi ,you can be on my track crew anytime !!!
I was on that parade with the Vets
Never knew about the Kangaroo APC. So cool! Thank you Sofi for posting! You've got yourself a new subscriber.
I recently watched an older video where Sofilein actually sang a line or two acapella....Damn, what a great voice. Makes me wonder of any more of that is around.
"Do you want to get dirty?" Sofilein: "Sure"
Sofilein gives serious "choir kid" vibes lolll
Darn, I'm in Ottawa and I completely missed this! Great video. All the presenters clearly know their stuff. They spoke clearly and confidently. It was a joy to listen to
3:32 a running condition Ram gun tank would be a dream come true for me.
Good to see you again Sofilein. I was not familiar with this vehicle. Interesting thank you.
i remember that, you had a hard time getting that engine spinning and eventually they helped, and when it fired up the amount of smoke that drifted towards the RC tanks was pretty bad, made me choke and sick, and i was not the only one, this year if they decide to start it up I'm going to make sure I'm nowhere near the fumes .
was nice meeting you then Sofilein, hope i get a chance to say hello again.
Love the 79th Armoured Division Bull, my father was 22nd Dragoons , D-Day mine flail Sherman first wave one of Hobarts’ Funnies
One of the worlds best armoured APC's.
If you're loosing rubber of the wheels, it's not a problem.
I'm in Haifa bay Isr ael. We have here several local companies that do good work on re-rubberizing rotating parts (mostly for industrial equipment). Re-rebberizing those wheels is an easy job. I'm sure there are such companies in Canada or the States that could do such work for a very reasonable price.
Nice! I just bought the RAM Kangaroo APC from Gecko Models. This is very helpful for the interior!
Oh I’m so glad! My first videos were for modelers so they could have some good outside references for tanks and I’m happy the internals are helpful too. The channel has grown since I posted mostly walkarounds but I’m always happy to hear from the model builders who got some awesome material from it 🤗
@@Sofilein Thanks Sofilein, just keep on posting!
TY🙏🙏
THKS
omg!!! I have a Ram Kangaroo external fire extinguisher in my collection!
17:41 LOL. seriously Sofilein, eat some protein girl!!! Senior here turned that crank like he was spreading butter. I just found it funny how she could not turn that crank . Not picking on anyone. Great video, great restoration!
12:53 the car alarms going off from the gunfire 😂
Love the realistic gunsound effects😂
Iam interestet too for old excsvators.
Almost 30 years ago, we had a 1969 Massey Ferguson 3303 (there even some Videos of this type verhicle here in CZcams.)
👌🏻A peace great british history heavy duty work machines,I think. The 2.4 Perkins Diesel was slow and loud, but it worked and worked all the time since 1969. We sold it in 1986, and years later in 2008 I saw our MF 3303 supposed again, bad rusty but still running!
Thanks!
Thanks, Sofi! We get to see an actual demonstration of how the oil was removed from the lowest cylinders prior to starting, and a bonus lesson in double-clutching from the driver! I would love to see how they packed all those soldiers into the Kangaroo, as well as how they got in and out. Soviet T-34's had simple hand-holds welded to the side, I wonder if we figured that out before the war was done. Love your enthusiasm.
I was unable to go this year but the Canadian Tank Museum is not 3 miles from my front door.
One of the gems of Oshawa (we do have a couple )
✌
Early radial engines leaked oil, but it was not a big deal. Thats why pilots wore goggles and post flight you could see a contrast after doffing headgear. Oil was cheap and plentiful, but as aircraft flew faster, further and inverted, engines had to change to capture the oil so distance was not oil limited. Kudos to you Sofi for cranking that beast, not easy for anyone. Consider what it was like under fire! Cheers!
Aww! I wanted to see it starting up and running 😢.
Im a volunteer at that museum
Wishing I still had my M543A2 wrecker now, and get a picture with the gorgeous Sofi onboard ! 💝😘🌹
there is a shot up hull about 5 miles from me near a town called ''leek'' in england, lovely looking vehicles
Great to see.
Ich liebe Sofis Stimme, Stimmung und die süße Schnute sowieso. Great Content!!
My truck had a trashed rear main seal once that leaked oil like that!!! Its a wonder those things didn't randomly catch on fire!!! Thanks for the video!!!
Great work. Thank you for your efforts.
The Canadian Ram series are my favourite WW2 Allied vehicles, along with the Sexton.
I'm so lucky that my partner also likes tanks/planes from WW2. She loves going around RAF Cosford with me , which is local, or to the Bovington tank museum when we're on holiday. Most women find that kind of stuff boring.
Upside Down Star I sifted through WWII images of Ram and Preist Kangaroos, most did not have a star and the few that did, did not have it upside down.
The very few images with upside down star were all post war.
Crank dat, soulja girl...
Great video! Ain't you glad we don't have to crank out vehicles like that today? 😃
Maybe if I had to do it more often I’d be better at it 😂
Excellent video on a rare vehicle that doesn't get much attention.
If an R975 is leaking that much oil that its spraying it when warmed up, that means it needs an overhaul. Badly. They should only weep when cold.
Woot eh! More please hehe
Your footage just can't be beat! Hope maybe to meet you at Aquino this year!
17:44
Go Fruit Fly State!
Yay, Ragin' Sofis!
I'm betting the Australian Armor Museum has those OG dials. Last year they had an INCREDIBLE barn find of Grant tanks and are slowly restoring them.
Good job, Sofi!
Five vids in one month! I could get used to this!😀
Very interesting. I can't wait for the next episode where I hope you get to drive the Kangaroo
It was nice to see it and watch it driving around last year. I was going to say I'm sure the ride in that must have been real fun for your back, but cranking it looks worse. Looking forward to going again this year, hope the weather is nice.
More thumbnails like this! Sofilein is the most accidentally gorgeous content creator on CZcams.
Ya did good Sofilein.
Great video!
Super interesting.
Thx for another great vid!
You need to get bigger guns, Sophie! 😂
Frank B Robinson the famous Psychiana cultist's pharmacy with model tank shop in basement? Fantastic place. He had a glass display with many M4 Sherman dioramas, beautifully built. Mine were always lame in comparison.
The Kangaroo is very interesting. With all the industrial might of the western allies one would have thought that they would have build a dedicated IFV.
Don't see too many of these around, such a great idea at such an important time in history. Oh yeah and whos doesn't like the name RAM!!
Nice resto. Is the wheel rubber more brittle from age?
Good peace Tank Girl 👍
I'm very interested in how you got interested in Tanks and military equipment. I enjoy eating you have done. I look forward to seeing you next CZcams post
Nice breakfast for a Tiger tank!
I once had the honor of hand cranking a M4a3...i think, it was years ago, anyway, it was hard, really hard...
Models? I just did the construction. Never had time for any of that girly, decorative painting and weathering.
