Great aircraft choice! Everybody knows everything about mustangs and spitfires, but I find those ugly ducklings much more fascinating.

The mamba is an early example of a turbo-prop engine.

Both props were used for take-off and then one engine/prop was shutdown once airborne. The engines alternated so wear was even across both.

I drove one for 6 years and loved it. We even hooked 2 together and had a tug of war. Man I miss those days 😢

That dual counter-rotating engine & propellor arrangement must have been a nightmare to maintain.

The US Army never bothered to design and produce tanks between the wars. The Army Arsenals built a few light and medium tanks for testing while making modifications to their Christie concept combat cars. They observed the fighting in Europe during that time so in 1939 declared everything they had was obsolete then went to work designing modern tanks that were better than the Germans. The US figured Nazi Germany was designing a very heavy tank so felt the Army better have one, too. The Army wanted 56 for further testing to work out the bugs then stopped production of those due to having too many problems. The petro-electric and fluid drives required more frequent maintenance and repairs than anticipated. They also had a nagging problem with shirt track life and random breaking due to the extreme weight of the tank. Their crews constantly complained about their cramped working conditions making it difficult for them to perform their tasks. Ordnance then decided that it would take too long to iron out the problems so cancelled the project. One feature on the M6 that was used later was the HVSS.
