    I know if I were the professor -- Having being around Virginia Woolf -- let's just say: he kept his cool long enough!! Brilliantly written. Was it too far from their own truth? Richard Burton, & Elizabeth Taylor's truth. Phenomenal actors. No one could have pulled it off, as well. They we're pretty toxic in their own relarionship. They both had tempers. This film certainly had substance. Master Piece, for sure!

    It grabs you but it is seduces you into these very disturbing peoples' world of pain. It is, however, a cinematic masterpiece. Director Mike Nichols took the already charismatic and fiery Liz Taylor and Richard Burton, he turned them inside out in the world where their passion met their hatred. The love affair between those two is a story for all time. And they both had their demons. Had to have been exhausting on so many levels during the filming. A little shout out to Sandy Dennis for her finesse in the role of the ditzy, naive, and kind of unforgettable newlywed wife. Dennis put depth so you could see the devastating shift from naive young bride to a witness and participant in pathos. Edward Albee was dark. This gang did the play justice. Try not to think about all the people like them you know in real life.

    @shihlin1 Před 2 lety +2

    Richard Burton felt he should've gotten the Oscar in addition to his wife, Liz, winning it.
    Problem is, she's chewing the scenery so much you can't take your eyes off her no matter how good he himself is.
    Also, he had the passive "female" role while she had the "masculine" role, dishing it out with the best of 'em.
    It must've been liberating for Liz to play this role, not caring how she looked or sounded.
    She could have barf all over her face and the audience thought it was part of her performance.
    She said the only bad residue from this role was the 30 pounds she packed on to play Martha.
    She said it was so liberating to eat food and not care if it affected her figure, something she'd never done until this role.

      @@josephmontalba She should have won an Oscar for her performance in The Out of Towners,but that's not your typical Oscar nod type of film,I just thought she was miscast for the wolf role,not that she wasn't talented,far from it.

    Rock solid acting, story and film - still, a bit over told and acted. Feels a bit pushed, always. But a great film.

    Good Movie! Big Stars!
    If I were any of the miserable characters with their miserable pathetic lives here, I may be tempted to jump from the Golden Gate Bridge, or something of that nature, but first I'll have a Double on the Rocks, to ease the trip down!

    This is a dream marriage for a woman, a game with two equally masterful players😂 Its brilliant, men don't always know that women love games, women don't know that men love clarity and not manipulation, our relationships are a comedic dance

      @@Petrajac88 Hi Petra if you haven't seen the film do watch it. It really is a great film & a true reflection of the dynamics in the Taylor & Burton relationship at that point in time. Although not directly related to them script wise. Its superb acting by both parties. Yes its true that they weren't sober before, during or after the film was completed!!
