Can you imagine the extent of the labor that went into building this place! Plus all the materials and artisans that had to be recruited...such an arduous task, but I'm sure one of love...
My husband and I stayed a night there in 2008. We had a meal in a restaurant in the evening and had a table by the window and watched the tide come in. An amazing sight as I have never seen tide come in so fast. In half an hour the stream and mud flats were covered in water. Also have a beautiful depiction of the last Supper made of stone now hanging on our home in New Zealand, where we returned to on 2010.
The speed of the tide in these places is estimated to be that of a galloping horse
What a beautiful spot. I visited in 1974, took private tour of lower levels which they were still excavating at the time. 0only 2 places on earth have the tidal phenomenon like Mont Saint Michel. Fascinating place
a monument of French history and culture that must be preserved at all costs! just amazing.
I visited this place over 25+ years ago and remover being mesmerized by the entire architecture and the history of it. This video brought back many positive memories of Mont Michel. Thank you.
Le Mont Saint Michel
Greatest architecture in the world
Amazing,spectacular,....genius architect...brilliant...
The most magnificent castle ive ever seen in my life because its heart is the Church.
de tout coeur je souhaite que votre voeux se réalise que notre archange vous prenne sous sa protection le mont st Michel est notre fierté à nous bretons bonne chance à vous kenavo
Visited when I was 16 and I don't think I really appreciated it at the time. I remember walking past the terraced graveyard and remarking on how there were less than a dozen surnames over the centuries. We weren't allowed time to go any further than the main door of the abbey itself before we had to return to our coach. I always wanted to return, but never made it back. Thank you for posting this view of the inside of the abbey which I could now, being 67 and in a wheelchair, never hope to see again.
Mont Saint Michel was the most memorable part of my trip to France a few years ago if you visit France don*t miss seeing this wonderful place.
Yes, Maureen..it is definitely the place to go...so incredible and ancient..
I find the architecture utterly amazing! Especially when you consider the timeframe this was constructed. Exquisite.
I spent the night there in 1974, before the new causeway was built, and got to watch the tide flow in and isolate the island as the sun was going down. Beautiful. A marvel of French and Western culture and civilization.
Mom and I lived in Europe when I was a child...we frequently vacationed at Mont Saint Michel...I was under the age of 10..but I recall so much of this incredible place..there were no shops...I recall the terrace with a incredible view of the CousSeas and the Tower...we went with another family who had several children...we drank watered down wine as milk wasn't pasteurized then..the Tower has always been a fascination to me..and how they used it...during a war, the prisioners were thrown down into the tower and burned to death...I am 73 now and have always had a incredible love of history; I think being so young when at Mont Saint-Michel and living in Europe as a child firmly established my over the top interest in history..Wish I could go back there now...From the terrace at Mont St. Michel, one could see the beautiful Couesnon/Sea in the distance.. thought it was the Meditterean but it is the Couesnon Sea..
very cool. God bless you.
@@mf5531 Thank you..wish I could go back..
Gorgeous and inspiring memory. God bless you Ellen. I pray in the Name of Jesus Christ that you get to see it again some day. Your story touched my heart with images.
Just from this video, it is good to see so many young people very much engaged at looking at this place. I’m impressed. It is good to see the french govt make effort to restore the Abby.
wow so cool to consider how the history of our lives helps shape us like that!
my family also took me on trips as a kid and i used to think if it's meaningful or not to show little kids such things, but it can and does make a different eh? :)
j espere pouvoir revenir un jour au Mont mais en attendant je me régale de toutes ces superbes vidéos merci beaucoup
Merci à vous 😊
Thank you very much for making this helpful visual aid that gives us a strong sense of atmosphere and "place." You put a lot of work into this and I, for one, am most grateful. Someday I hope to visit; in the meantime, you've given me a "next best." Merci.
Six times in MONT SAINT-MICHEL, it's WONDERFUL, I never get tired of visiting this place. It's COMPLETELY UNIQUE .🌎👍❤
The solemn figure of Mont Saint Michel is beyond description , unimaginable , immeasurable , unfathomable and full of tribute and deep emotion and makes me feel peaceful and calm
I'm just intoxicated with the majestic figure of Mont Saint Michel

We have two grown-up kids and lucky to have a chance visiting this place. We spend our whole day visiting historical event or show including the abbey and restaurant where the known omelette were served. We have a good time inside and the surrounding area for we was camping nearby and to see it during darkness. I recomend this place to visit and enjoy as we do. We were there last week of July 2019.
I retired from the Canadian Air Force in 1972, well under forty so look my wife and kids cycling in the UK and Europe for about six months. While at Mont Saint Michel our young son ( 12 years old) got sick so we found a christian group who came to our aid and we were fortunate to spend the night in their care. We wandered around a lot as no tourists after late afternoon. Saw things the average tourist would or could not see. We left the next day with great memories. We spent most nights in Youth Hostels. starting in Germany ,Scotland, England, France ,the Netherlands and back into Germany in the south at Larh, our then RCAF Base then back to Canada 5000 km trip, by bike. The biggest highlight was to spend well over 24 hours on the Mont . Good memories. Thanks for the article
Denis LOVE what a wonderful memory! You are fortunate to have such kind people to help you and to have seen so much during your time there.
@@suehofkamp8594 Thanks for you comment Sue. It was quite an experience. The only four tourists there that night was us. The group that put us up was called Pax Christie
Beautiful video of Mont St Michel. The people just surround it. What a storied history. The Abbey is just gorgeous and old. A lot of effort went into this video and I really appreciate it.
My wife an I were here in 2017. This is the most amazing man made.object I have ever seen.
Tourists need to leave before high tide.
Wow lucky you two
Thanks, I hope to visit, for now it is my dream
What a beautiful video! That place is extraordinary! So much bigger than I thought! Thank you so much!
A beautiful tour of Mont Saint Michel. Thank you for sharing.
Amazing Location and so much history!
thanks for posting this very nice video of a unique place, I got to see things I didn't see when I went there. It was the month of November 1985, the sky was covered by dark clouds and the whole place was pretty much empty including the Abby and the streets, which gave the place a more magical feeling...and to top it off there was a traditional wedding taking place at the church of the Abbey with locals in traditional clothing dancing at the terrace....on the other hand though, sometimes when there are more tourist, by following them you get to see places you wouldn't suspect otherwise......Thanks for reminding me of that time....
I was there with my wife this past September....a true marvel of history....I could have stayed longer but unfortunately the incredible crowds and noise dampened my spirits....it is very commercialized now....but certainly glad to have seen it first hand. Great video !
Came here on a school trip just over 15 years ago and loved it and really want to go back one day.
Thanks for the memories, revisited. Last there in 1985 and would like to return. Several things of note from my memories: The barrel shaped room, spotted in video, is the world's best natural lit room, beautiful. I attended Mass at the Church and after Mass the Monks and some Sisters returned to the centre of the Church and "let rip" a sacred song which just SOARED up into the ceiling of the church. Heavenly! Also, weren't the ancients masterbuilders?
Hope they still have Mass there. It looks like a big tourist attraction.
I, too, was wondering if mass is still celebrated there? Also is there a cloistered community still living on the island?
@@MrZadokthePriest There still is a small community.
April 10, 2020 Now, during the COVID-19 Pandemic, would be a good time to visit & film. No people. No noise. Love this video just the same. Thank you!
I went there in 1994. And we weren't allowed to go all the way to the top because the monks were doing something that required they not to be interrupted. It was one of the most beautiful places I've ever been.
Fui conhecer Mont Saint Michel há 5 meses atrás. Era um sonho antigo. É um lugar mágico, surreal!!
Looks wonderful & awesome, a gigantic monument worthy to visit...actually French abbeys & churches are well kept for tourism industry purposes.
And for the Catholic faithful.
exaudi33 Ofcourse truly it is..Thanx
When structures were just so magnificent and we can marvel over there beauty ❤️
Great video. We visited Mont Saint Michael back in 2009 so fond memories.
I noticed it listed in the 200 must see places to visit in the world. I definitely
agree.
Came here on a school trip 40 yrs ago, always remember it fondly
Beautifully shot. Thanks for sharing, and the exceptional efforts of making one feel as if we too, are on tour.
Why there is always some thumb-down? Hard to understand what was negative about this video?!! This is a very nice piece of presentation of Mont St. Michel.
Hodge Hill Girls School. BIRMINGHAM. UK. “Mont San Michel”.
I once visited this beautiful place, having never heard of it. I found myself at this incredible location due to a series of events that took place during the month of June, 1983.
A friend and I had recently celebrated our 18th birthdays, and we booked a camping holiday near to the French, Brittany town of Cancale.
The day of departure from BIRMINGHAM coach station, saw us aboard a double decker coach. We sat aloft. On the journey out of the city, a housing estate captured my interest. The estate lay to the right of the motorway, I saw a working man´s club, petrol station, small shopping precinct and a large secondary school perched on the hill overlooking the estate. I also noticed particular homes and their neat front gardens.
We arrived at the camp site, located on the outskirts of Cancale. We soon discover that there was a group of school girls on an end of term cultural trip, also at the camp site. They told us they were from Hodge Hill Girls School, Hodge Hill, BIRMINGHAM. They had arrived in two mini vans, so I guess there may have been approximately 20 in their party.
The girls were aged 15 and 16. Instincts kicked in, and so did the only game in town.
My friend and I somehow got invited by the teachers, to accompany them all on a day trip. We must have appeared to be reasonably safe and respectable. We travelled at the very rear of one of the decrepit mini buses in a couple of spare seats. We had no idea at this point where we were heading. We supplied the teachers with Tape Cassettes, and were soon travelling through French country side listening music of the band of the day “Japan”.
We eventually arrived at Mont San Michel, and we began our pilgrimage against gravity. We slowly meandered up through the cobbled streets, taking in nearly all of the gift shops, until we eventually arrived at the summit, in the company of our new friends. Lunch time came around, and we all ate in the grounds immediate to the Abbey. The views was spectacular. The company was very lovely and 1983 school girl esc.
I can still visualize where we sat to eat, and with whom we sat. I sensed that something very synchronistic was taking place.
The holiday ended, and my friend and I returned home. Part two of this story commenced after receiving a phone call, from one of those delightful young ladies. I would later learn that the housing estate that had caught my attention was home to most of the girls and the secondary school on the hill was their school.
Thank you for this video. I only had a short visit and it was very busy and quiet dark inside, so it was so good to see it through your lens. One of my favourite places in this magical world.
This is the coolest thing I have ever seen in my life (on video). I must visit this before I die, lol.
What a magic place🤩i wil visit it for sure☺
Lovely visit ❤
Merci pour les vidéos du Mont St-Michel. C'est bien plus agréable de le voir de cette manière, déjà moins fatiguant et on peut tout voir alors que sur place je n'ai rien vu d'aussi beau.🙏
De rien ...
Mont St Michel is amazing. I just visited Mont st Michel last week, and made a video about it as well. Such a great place to visit.

Good to see comments are not turned off for this site. Amazing place, great vid.
I have always wanted to go to Mont St Michel. Such history it has seen. Great photography and information.
This makes me feel things ..
3:10 Not sure why, but I began imagining walking this alley on a quiet, gray, rainy day, and the comfort it would bring me. 🤔
I've been there more than once and you really captured the magnificent place. Well done ! thank you!
Sure, no talking. Only panoramic views of the amazing structure.
Man I'd sure love to go!
Such a shame that it's so commercialised and crowded. Was it simular for you?
splendid video! I can hardly wait-- we will be there in one month!
I did not realize the place was all that large. A great video.
Thank you nicely done. Just returned from Mount St Michel. Unfortunately I got there too late to see the Abbey. I appreciated your video. Looks like I’ll need to return to France for another visit! Beautiful place!
You are welcome ...
I just came back from there as well, we visited early in the morning because of the large crowd that arrives later in the day.
You captured the mont Saint Michel beautifully
This is one of the most magnificent castles I’ve ever seen dedicated to St. Michael
@Esperance Fe OK Thank you for that.
It’s not a castle. It’s an abbey

Thanks for posting.
Amazing. Thanks for sharing!
Loved Mont St. Michel! But if there is one thing that annoyed me during my visit there 2 years ago was I kept hearing the ringtone at 01:58 to the point that I got so annoyed by it. Then I found out it was quite a famous ringtone used by Asian tourists. :D
So much I’d France is truly beautiful, if you are visiting I would recommend the cathedral at Rouen so atmospheric.
Beautiful.
Thank you 😊 very good video, I have enjoyed watching every minute of it 💐
Im trying to bring a traditional blacksmith display to Le Mont Saint Michel, im speaking with the town about it currently. It would be cool to have the sound of an anvil ringing intermittently working on ironwork for the Abbey & Town. Not sure if we will make it permanent but a show at least for now :)
Thankyou for uploading this sir
