really enjoyed this take on the ranking format. when i disagreed with placings on the list, more often than not, i couldn't get that upset at a one word description rather than a few sentences making pointed judgements of the quality, which made it feel like a celebration of the music rather than a critique.

I actually really like the frantic, almost overwhelming songs, like Banshee Boardwalk and Grumble Volcano, because they bear down on you so much. Admittedly, Ninja Hideaway does this concept much better, but it feels repetitive to me.
Same, I really feel they make me more invested in the race. Like there is a sense of urgency.

I think Nintendo just overall understands that music is a huge factor in nostalgia and general enjoyment of games. Mario galaxy, paper Mario, smash bros, Wii sports, donkey Kong, the list goes on of games where the majority of music is either memorable, enjoyable or both.
Damn, I actually disagree with a lot of this, normally I agree with these kinds of lists. Like I actually like GBA Circuit, Luigi’s Mansion, Shy Guy Bazaar, Los Angeles Laps, and Toad’s Turnpike

I'm honestly surprised at how drastically different our tastes in MK music are! My top choices would include Cloudtop Cruise, Toad Harbor, Dolphin Shoals, Rock Rock Mountain, and Bangkok Rush. I'm very fond of the older music as well, but I tend to prefer the newer stuff. I would love to make a complete ranking myself, but also including the battle arenas and MK8DX arrangements! I can already say up front that the top spots would be ALL MK8DX lmao

Shy Guy Bazaar is the type of song that grows on you with time, when you listen to the final lap version you understand what they were going for with the melody, and then as you race again in that track you appreciate the regular version more.
You can be saying some random adjectives that don’t make sense at all but ill still be blown away by your vocabulary
I’d agree that DS’s Shroom Ridge isn’t much more than “Optimistic”, but MK8 Deluxe’s rendition of Shroom Ridge is easily my favorite theme in any Mario kart game. I’d describe it as “Exhilarating”!
They did improve it a lot in MK8! :)

I love the Double Dash and DS soundtrack though.
My favorite song of all is Mushroom City. It's catchy, and somehow is the most "Mario Kart-ish" song in the series (along with the DS remake of Choco Mountain)
Mushroom City is without a doubt one of the most underrated tracks! Its literally one of the 4 remaining Double Dash recourses to make a return, and I can say with the upmost confidence, I hope it returns in the DLC more specifically wave 2.

I can’t be the only person who likes the Mushroom Bridge arrangement from DS better than the one from GCN, but that might be nostalgia bias coming in, as I never played Double Dash when I was younger, and I poured countless hours into DS.

I actually played DS way before I played Double Dash. But ever since I heard the GCN original, I actually kinda liked that one better. Probably because of MKDS console limitations.

Shy Guy Falls is my absolute favorite track in all of Mario Kart. The song is equally great.

How people forget about Neo Bowser City (Koopa City)?
It's one of the best tracks in all of Mario Kart and it's sound hits well
Also fun fact about neo bowser city that makes it better imo, it’s technically a mash up between N64 toads turnpike, Wii Circuit theme and the 7’s Main theme, since all of these songs can be found on neo bowser city, pretty insane
Neo Bowser City is my favorite track in 8 and possibly the entire series as a whole, it’s just really good

I have it ranked 7th in my ranking (Overall track quality that is, soundtrack would absolutely be in my top 5 for Mario Kart Wii)
I don’t know why, but I just love Shy Guy Beach/Cheep Cheep Island, especially on the latter. It feels so laidback and almost feels too good for a Mario Kart Game. It kind of takes me back to simpler times, and I think that’s why I love it.
Plus I’m a suckler for anything with Sunsets so that probably has something to do with it.

Thanks so much for including Tour in this. Most people wouldn’t consider it in the list as they don’t believe it’s canon with the rest of the Mario kart franchise but I’m glad you embraced it and actually enjoyed most of the songs! Of course we all have different opinions on all the songs and each persons ranking would be different but I definitely respect this

I don't think Tour is canon but I'd definitely include their OST if I made a video like this. Tour is just underrated and underappreciated, but I don't think it's really a mainstream game either.
@@Jordi6304 I wouldn’t say it’s “canon” per say in a way of saying it’s Mario kart 9, but I’d definitely say it’s part of the series. This was basically confirmed when the booster pass was released and now that MK8 and Tour share tracks we can say it’s a part of the games series. I’d say Mobile is the same as a portable device like the DS/3DS except mobile is now a platform that allows Addition content through transactions, same with the switch and the booster pass being an available add on. 😊

A lot of the Mario Kart 8 tracks hit hard! But I find myself missing the funkiness that Mario Kart Wii music had- they went NUTS with the synth hahaha
That's an interesting top here! Most of the ~30 bottom tier songs would be the same for me, but it would be very different for the top ones! My number 1 is Sky Garden because of how catchy and upbeat it is, and I would also put up there Shroom Ridge, Cheese Land, Delfino Square and Berlin Byways!

Super circuit tracks are criminally underrated
I dislike it when people say that gba osts are bad, but games like mario kart super circuit and mother 3 will prove you wrong :)

The main problem with MKGBA is the sound chip of the console, you get use to it but it doesn't do justice to the compositions, that's why when GBA tracks get remaked with remixed music they sound so good.

@@Recarsonated Oh I agree I didn't mind the sound back then when I played with the actual console, maybe it is because I mainly use emulators nowadays so the quality of the sound could be affected by that.
Berlin Byways is my favorite, everyone was expecting stereotypical German music when that track was announced but they absolutely knocked it out of the park instead. They had no business making that song so grandiose but they did!

The Berlin Byways reminds me so much of the tecno styled music Tekken games have. Why is it that Mario Kart music can wake so much nostalgia inside me, I almost started crying fsr lmao.

When you’re gliding in Thwomp Ruins, the glint of the sun and all of the vibrant colors feels so magical, with the music creating so much more of a vibe during that section.

Waluigi Pinball is an Amazing Song, i would be mad about it being “Overrated” however compared to the amount if Mario Kart songs that are underrated Waluigi Pinball gets way more attention than is needed, good song but by definition it is technically Overrated
This video goes to show me how much Mario Kart Sucer Circuit's soundtrack is really underrated. Lakeside Park has become a hidden gem for me, along with one of my personal favorites, Bowser's Castle. Definitely interesting tastes though, I'm definitely nostalgic towards mario kart wii's music and probably would have most of it (excluding probably grumble volcano and mushroom gorge) over stuff like n64 koopa beach.
I am gonna second MKSC being underrated, especially Lakeside Park. I find that Lakeside Park is most deserving of "groovy," and I would place Shy Guy Beach pretty high and say it is "nostalgic."

Shroom Ridge, Berlin Byways and , of course, Waluigi Pinball are my favourites

1:00 As someone who has lived in Los Angeles my whole life, I completely agree. I feel like that song is not an accurate representation of my city because if the course takes place in Venice/Santa Monica, it should have music you'd hear from beachside buskers in Venice/Santa Monica, not this mess that I can't figure out a part of LA that it corresponds to!
Good to hear from someone actually from LA! I’ve never been but it’s always shown off all across digital media and I just felt like the song didn’t fit at all
honestly this franchise has had such good music all around that even the bottom spots are at least B tier in quality
A lot of these I really like, but one my all time favorites in this list has gotta be the Shy Guy Beach/Cheep Cheep Island song. I think it's really neat how they took the Theme From "A Summer Place," (by Percy Faith and his Orchestra) modified it a bit, and used it for the courses. Really clever and it re-introduces an old song from 1959 into the modern era.

Tour is easily my favourite Mario Kart soundtrack, the sheer variety is insane and every single theme hits.
Especially Singapore Speedway and Vancouver Velocity. I really wanna visit those places for the music alone. (Which doesn't even make sense)

Remember it’s not about how good the song is in terms of taste and style, but about the delivery it has with the atmosphere of the course, it must give the emotion to have it settle perfectly to make the player feel a part of the course
Since there weren't any battle courses in this video, i just wanted to say that the most underrated mario kart song is Funky Stadium from MK Wii.
That was my favorite battle map in wii

Hadn't realized how good some of those Tour tracks are. Kinda stayed away from Tour because of it's scummy gacha mechanics but it apparently has some bops. The more you know

I’ve started playing tour recently out of desperation for more mario kart, and as long as you ignore the gem shop and the gold pass, it’s a really solid underrated game. And the loot box stuff doesn’t ever really get in the way given how much free shit they throw at you every day. It’s definitely worth giving it a shot.
