Trump is a salesman. He knows how to pitch something to make time sound good. As profound an idiot as he is, he is a *genius* when it comes to making appearances. His "MAGA" cry is nonsense, but a nonsense that gave a lot of people hope. False hope, but powerful.
Trump stoked fires of dissent, and then set himself up as the one man people could trust. The one outsider that could fix the mess the insiders created. By doing this, he created an in-group and an out-group. If you were with Trump, you were trying to make a difference. If you were against Trump, you were the establishment trying to stop him from fixing things.
This created a narrative that was appealing to the uneducated masses. Everyone wants to be a hero. Everyone wants to take down villainy. And Trump's narrative made his voters feel like the heroes that, deep down, they all wanted to be. Feelings like that get rooted *deep* in a person's psyche. Attacking that, even with objective facts and proof, triggers people's fight or flight response, and makes them resistant to truths that go against their narrative.
Republicans thought they could channel this energy into a red wave that would let them enact their agendas. They thought they could use Trump's lack of political experience to get their way. And they did with abortion, tax cuts for the rich, etc. But they failed to recognize the cult of personality they had created. Before they knew it, their creation had grown bigger and stronger than them. They had let Trump seize control of their propaganda machine, not the other way around.
The us vs. them narrative, the deep state conspiracies, the fundamental human desire to be responsible for defeating evil, fueled the Qanon conspiracies and the January 6th attack. And today it continues to fuel the unwavering, undying loyalty of the uneducated masses. These masses, sadly, are *extremely* vocal, and give the impression of being bigger than they truly are. As a result, the politicians fear to lose them. Fox fears losing views, and Republican politicians fear losing voters. So they're trapped in their own trap, where they become pariahs, "RINOs" if they dare to speak the truth. And until a larger number of them do speak up, nothing is going to change.
Shame on you sir. You're as bad or worse than any of the politicians there.
