Tracie, Jodi - your discussion on size inclusivity today was excellent and something I so greatly appreciated and made me feel validated. I was referred to your video from a commenter on one of my own videos where I made a remark about different eases for different sizes. I had said that I think ease should be the same across the board to make it easier to choose a size to knit. I had the same feeling as Jodi, where " it strikes a bit of a nerve"; a designer "choosing" ease for me. I didn't know anything about proportional ease when I made that remark and since then I have learned about proportional grading and am still learning. You are totally right, everyone deserves their own opinion, preferences (designers and makers) and I greatly appreciate your openness and honesty on the topic. Some may see it as drama or conflict, but when we listen and work constructively, it is our difference in opinions that allows us to come up with new ways, new solutions, and for this wonderful community to come together to get there.

I’m an overweight lady working at losing some lbs for my health. It’s proven that extra weight contributes to many health issues. Not sure why we encourage women to be obese. Just my humble opinion. I know we must be happy with our bodies but we should also work at being healthy for our loved ones. They want us around them
Expecting loads of negativity to come rushing at me. That’s OK. I too have a voice

My dearest Canadian sisters, there will always be snarks wallowing in the mud, people who are unhappy with themselves and life. Activate your protective barrier around you, and let their arrows bong off to the ground!! Those of us who know you as the caring, generous, often hilarious women that you are, wouldn't want you to change one iota. I've been watching, learning and laughing with you for years. Love you, thank you, continued success! Sally from Portland, Oregon

None of the comments were snarky and clearly written by intelligent adults. As influencers both these ladies need to present facts. Their comments and discussion denigrated a designer without any background research into her methodology. For you to say let their arrows bong off to the ground is saying bury your head in the sand and not learn from the truth

What a fascinating topic! Size inclusivity....guess what? Years ago I wanted to make a sweater for my special needs son who has a history of spinal surgeries due to severe scoliosis. Store-bought sweaters always rode up in the back because, of course, his curved spine. Thanks to Susan B Anderson (who wrote a math-y formula for sweaters A LONG TIME AGO), I was able to knit him a sweater that fit him perfectly because I learned how to measure him and I learned how to knit short rows!! That sweater made me so proud! He's 25 now and I'm knitting him another sweater...and yes, I modify, but's that's OK! So grateful for this conversation! You both are awesome!

Suzanne Bryan has some excellent videos on how to knit sweaters to fit your own body that seem like they can be applied not only to designing your own patterns, but also to other's patterns that people choose. It also sounds like it supports the importance of test knitting a variety of sizes before releasing a pattern.

Hello ladies. I am so glad this topic of size inclusivity has come up as well as the follow up to your last podcast regarding the ease in the sweater. As a knitter and clothes sewist with just a little bit of pattern making experience my thoughts on the topic of less ease for larger sizes could have been a matter of the formula for grading may not work out proportionately in the larger sizes the same as the smaller sizes. I'm not sure because I have never designed a knitted sweater pattern, but I was just thinking that maybe that was what the designer was dealing with when she designed the sweater and not necessarily as a slight to larger knitters. Sometimes you can't just multiply by a fixed amount indefinitely with a good outcome. Either way, I am glad you are discussing this as we all are learning from it. ❤

I can't imagine anyone knowing everything. I have knitted a pattern that was only one single size. But I also understand that people would like to knit there own size. As I continue to knit, I learn to fit to different size bodies using a pattern. Designers cannot expect to provide for every body size, style. People need to work out things on their own or ask questions. The Grocery Girls are providing an ample amount of information, and its all positive. Thank you for doing what you do.😊

Everyone that watches this show does know your intentions are good. You support size inclusive and that was where your were coming from. That is a very important stand in the knitting world. I am a plus size woman and I choose my size based on the fit I want. Usually it is closer to my body than the sizing on the pattern indicate. And that’s because I feel like it’s more flattering for my body. And because of this, I did not agree with the opinion that you expressed. Especially since I do not have a grasp of the designing process. But I know you were advocating for those of a plus size and I truly appreciate you and your efforts. Thank you!

Your Instagram interview was great. Thank you for doing that. Jodi, once when you tried on an older cardigan that Tracie had made, I thought it looked fabulous on you. You said you would knit a bigger size for yourself, but it was very flattering in the size she had knit for herself. Sometimes an oversized sweater is just the ticket, but sometimes a little less positive ease is also good!

Hi, really enjoy your podcasts and general energy and positivity. As someone who rarely comments I’m often gobsmacked at how some are so quick to jump in with very opinionated and judgemental remarks. I didn’t really agree with your comments on that design but could see where you were coming from and that was that. Then I accidentally hit on the comments bar and saw some of the reactions 🙈. Anyhow, your response has been perfect, just glad that you have each other for support - unfortunately it is true that some people do wait for others to mess up and from the safety and anonymity of a keyboard can’t wait to give their lecture. Anyhow, keep doing what you’re doing, I’d already bought that pattern, and you just gave it free advertising as far as I can see 😂.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate your discussion on size inclusivity! Wehn I started knitting I coulnd't find a sweater for my size by several inches. That lead to "oh, I need to be smaller in order to make myself something" I was a new knitter didn't have the skills yet to grade a pattern for myself and I felt very shut out of a whole giant catagory of knitting. I am so grateful to have started knitting on the cusp of the size inclusivity movement and have learned so much along the way. 15 years in - yes I'm comfortable grading my own sweaters now. I can and do tweak often. I will also check size availabilty for any pattern that Im going to buy looking for ideally 28/30" bust to a 64" bust (not including ease). It's a big ask but I'm so happy to support the designers who make the extra effort!

I super agree with Jodi, but I really appreciated the discussions last week and this week! As a result, now more people will learn about proportional grading and they can decided if a pattern that uses it will work for them, or if it won't. More information is never bad, even if it comes to the forefront from a mistake (or as I like to call it, a Learning Opportunity).

As someone with a 53” bust THANK YOU for not backing down about size inclusivity. It’s clear to me that you are passionate about advocating for knitters in all bodies and sometimes that passion can come off as aggressive to people adverse to conflict. These conversations are so important to have so we can learn from each other and be better advocates in the future. I hope you continue to share your opinions because they are valued by me and many others.

Thank you! Thank you for bringing up this topic, thank you for following up with your Instagram post. Although I am at the smaller range of sizes, I learned so much from watching all of these videos. It has always been my goal to be a lifelong learner, and it was shocking to me to learn that I have been measuring myself incorrectly for all these years. Choosing a sweater size is totally about guesswork to me. Sometimes they fit beautifully and then again sometimes they don’t. As I am sure you have experienced, this is very stressful not to mention disappointing after spending all that money and time on a project. I can’t wait to start my next project and see how it turns out with my new way of measuring myself! L O L
And kudos to you both. You opened the door and misspoke a bit. (Don’t we all from time to time?) But you didn’t leave it there. You pursued it, got your facts straight and educated us all. Thank you!

I don't know if someone has mentioned it but the extra wire on your sock blocker is to hook over the curve of the hanger to keep it from falling off a rod or line while hanging.

Thanks for your discussion on fit! As a narrow shouldered, super busty, woman with tiny hips, this is a subject close to my heart. I know how to handle this when sewing, but am learning about knitting. I bought the Sally Melville book and will also buy Kim's book. Thx!!

Tracie and Jodi, I greatly appreciated the conversation revisited on sizing. I was one that said don’t go live if you are missing something. Having discussions about sizing and having incomplete info is a wonderful thing for you to do Live. My concern was the part saying “ love the sweater but Im not buying it now or making it any longer” That was a consequential judgement basically cancelling the designer. I’m glad you continued the research and your platform is perfect for that. I was concerned about targeting a sweet, hard-working designer that was working so hard to provide us with great patterns and your decision Live to not knit her patterns. Love you guys and watch you regularly.

Traci, I’m in love with the Coffee Run Collar too! I made one last year and gifted it so I’m currently knitting another, although I’ve modified it to a larger gauge as I’m knitting it out of Snefnug. It’s a perfect layering piece under a coat. We are going to Alaska via a cruise in May and I think it will be perfect for the trip. There’s another great collar in 52 weeks of shawls I’m going to make next called the Everyday Collar. But I’m sure there’s another Coffee Run in my future as well. And I LOVE telling everyone I’m making a dickie 😜 Lol. Yours is gorgeous out of the Sonder ❤

Hi Tracie and Jodie - your discussion of size inclusivity was great and I thought that it was clear in your last podcast that you admired and respected the designer but wanted to express an opinion and ask important questions. And we all got to learn something so thank you. LOVE those thrummed mittens. I wonder if Plotulopi would make good thrums because I have lots left over from a class I took and didn’t exactly find it a joy to knit with! The Frankie Grey yarns are just so gorgeous and your colorways have great names! You ladies are lovely, thank you❤

Aww...I was working in the office today so I missed your live :). Glad to be catching the recorded version. I love knitting and watching at the same time. Knitting the Tin Can knits Barley Beanie...I think I'm mostly knitting it because the model baby is so darn cute.

One of my first issues was with the Hamilton which I knit with you. I appreciate that the designer showed an oversized look, and told what size it was on the model. I have issues on the other side of size inclusivity-I'm petite (short) and my fit issues are unique to me, as I trust it is with every one

Distracted knitters. Distracted crocheters. Distracted quilters. Distracted embroiderers/stitchers. We’re all the same (except for a few who monogamous workers). My main passion is quilting/embroidery/stitching, and I don’t want to tell you how many quilts and other projects that are started. Oh look, squirrel - and I start another one. Knitting is secondary for me so not as bad, but I have several projects on the needles. I don’t care, I finish when I finish (if I finish).

Tracie, Jodi I watch all your podcast truly everyone. You bring knowledge laughter to our knitting community. I don’t comment often however this topic on size is just really making us all aware of how to pick our correct fit. No one wants to put all the work of knitting a garment only to find out wrong size chosen. So I found the topic very informative. So please don’t change giving us your opinion on different topics it only makes us a better knitter. Thank you for your research and knowledge wonderful podcast as always. Happy knitting

OK. I've been wanting to wallpaper my craft room and I really thought the peel and stick would be the easiest. It makes so much sense that the glue type would be easier to maneuver after placement. Thanks for the advice!!!!

Dear Tracie and Jodi, I love your podcast and all your topics. You brought me through some really difficult times and I am so thankful for what you provide to the knitting community. Don‘t change. ❤
(And in my humble opinion it‘s still not size inclusive if a small group of test knitters wants less ease).
