  • Just a casual video today of me attempting to organize and clear out a few things from my closet while I tell you about some of my spring and summer wardrobe.
    This video my be long, but there will an even longer directors cut version coming soon on my side channel for those who sincerely enjoy listening to me ramble on about my clothes. I just need time to finish editing that long cut and it will be up later this week sometime :)

    The way the economy is anymore, someone living with their parents as an adult isn't an automatic deterrent to dating in my eyes. There's a world of difference between someone who lives with their parents because they've given up, and someone who lives with their parents because it's the financially logical choice, and I would gladly date a gal in the latter situation.

      agreed. If your parents bought a multi bedroom house that you grew up in and pay a set amount each month or have it fully paid for. the idea that you would move accross town to struggle to pay the basic bills why multiple rooms sit empty at your parents home is not the sign of date ablity. it would not be conducive of overnight guests but that is very different than a night on the town. living with your parents dosen't make you a free loader being a free loader makes you a free loader and living with your parents feels very vintage so you are staying true to your style ha

      I moved in with my mother about 7 years ago and it was the best decision I ever made....saved me and her money, although she took part of what would have been my inheritance and we added on a large wing for me. But I developed some major health problems after I had surgery for a relatively minor health issue and was finally deemed disabled by the government. But much more important, I was able to chauffeur her to Drs and hospitals and was in the house with her through out her final battle with cancer.....now I live here alone and miss her every day.

    • @brookeg5979
      @brookeg5979 Před 3 lety +1

      @@TheClosetHistorian I'm a year late to this conversation but....I moved back home to help my parents while my mom fought with/passed from cancer. I stayed in the house to take care of my dad who had never been without her, and now is suffering with his own cancer and various aging health related issues. I'm super glad to be here for him as full-time in-home care and company, but it does feel like dating (or even hanging out with friends) isn't even remotely an option and it gets lonely.
      And GIRL do I hear you on decorating my own space. I have so much art in the basement that I brought with me after I left my husband/whole life behind!

One of the problems I have had with dressing vintage is the super small sizes that the women wore back in the day. It is so cool how that has not stopped you. You sew! I hadn't thought to pair it with safari stuff, that may just be the ticket! I'll have to try it out, thanks!

    Oh, how funny! I had this paused in a tab (waiting to see if the longer version would get posted before I got to it, yes, some of us are nosy and do want to see it ALL ;)), and before you did your dresses, I bought the only thing I've gotten from etsy for the spring/summer: a white eyelet dress! I've been collecting things mostly from thrifting so I don't usually have enough basics but I finally managed to buy something that's not going to lock me into certain colors, aha. Looking forward to see how you style yours! I'm already curious about what you wear underneath it because I'm not sure how my slip showing through is going to look~

      I know I still need to edit the long version eek! I have a beauty video I need to edit too, but I have been so busy writing lately! It is coming....eventually ;) I just wear a white slip under my white eyelet dress usually, the bodice of mine is lined in white cotton but the skirt is not lined so my white slip does show through there.

    First time I have seen you and subbed. I love pleated skirts and was happy to hear they really are timeless. My style in them is midi or maxi, in thinner fabrics like lame'. I love the movement and wear them w. t-shirts or boy's polos, or in the winter, a turtleneck or chunky wool sweater.

    A seasonal essential video would be great. And any videos about modifying an item to fit you (or your aesthetic) better would be beyond awesome. I follow a few other sewing channels, but the creators are super skinny and I keep thinking "you couldn't do that if you had my curves."😅

    I think the Mexican souvenir skirt was very I Love Lucy, but also those animals are probably mule deer. I would pair the pretty skirt with a sherbet orange rayon, or lightweight cotton blouse. Or a white blouse with bright orange scarf. Yes, I want to see seasonal essentials.

    Dyeing a fabric that's all natural fibres or all poly is easy, it's blends that are a pita to work with. But, for home dyeing, you will get the best result if you don't have your heart set on an exact shade. Especially if you only have the one thing to dye - very hard to do a test run unless you have swatches of the same base colour and composition. But if you want to dye that blouse "a blue colour", then yeah. Easy to do!

    I think a navy shortsleeved jumper(maybe with some lovely openwork detailing) would be very lovely for a more casual summer outfit with that white skirt. Or a fuchsia shortsleeved(kinda with turnups) classic 50s top

    if the lining isn't attached at the hem, slit the lining at a seam and hem the slit edges of the lining and you can then wear it with or without a petticoat.

    With the floral skirt, I think that you should find a summer weight, maybe a crochet?sweater in the sage green to match the leaves in the skirt....that would make the leaf print stand out more, toning the pink/florals down a little while putting a little less feminine and darker color closer to your face..... Boy that was a run-on sentence, for sure!
