  • In this video I am showing how to fix a common issue with the 2013-2018 Avalon where the driver's side door grip has a tear or the fake leather is worn out.

Guys, multiple folks asked me what I did with the tabs that were Drilled Out. I forgot to record how I filled the tabs with Hat glue using my wife's Hot Glue gun. It has been holding on perfectly fine, no issues. I am sorry about that.

Getting ready to perform this process on our 2013. Replacing the chrome bezel on the switch assembly on the drivers side. Of course the switches must be removed from the original and installed on the replacement bezel. But your video provided good info. Will be using pan head screws instead of the hot glue, or might use 2 part epoxy.

I've never done anything like this before. I was able to do this exact thing by myself, a 50-year-old woman. Thank you so much! This was so helpful and I would not have been able to do this without you because it bothered me so much every single time I got in my car. And now I have the satisfaction of fixing it myself all because of you. Thank you

Not sure anyone commented on this or not. But you DO NOT need to drill out the two black plastic welds to remove the armrest. You only need to drill out the two WHITE welds.
To reattach the welds, I used a plastic welder but have seen people use everything from hot glue to superglue to panel screws. I think the later is the way to go and don’t know why Toyota didn’t design it that way in the first place.
Thanks for the video how-to. It definitely kept me from breaking plastic!

Thanks for the video I have a 2013 Avalon and have the same issue. Original owner. It’s absolutely sickening how they were so cheap on this. Everyone has this issue and it should have been recalled

Thanks for the video……..I used the same seller for the “leather” which was excellent quality and as you stated, definitely thicker than oem. Used 3m glue and 3/8” staples …….like you I felt “looks pretty good”. Removing the door panel was actually easy…….putting it back was another story. Still, after a large volume of profanity I finally got it reinstalled. Wouldn’t have tried this without the benefit of your “tutorial “!

I have the same problem with my 2014 Avalon. My center console cover is also worn badly to where the vinyl is rubbed off. I, as you, was disappointed with the quality of the material used by Toyota. Thanks for sharing. Now I know I have my work cut out for me.

I used hot glue gun and filled the hole with hot glue. Not the perfect way to fix it but it works.

Can you buy more clips...is that why you didn't show that part 😆

I have the same problem on a 2013 model. I watched the video and it was quite helpful. However, the replacement cover shown on ebay when the link is accessed looks quite different from the one you used in the video. I ordered one from amazon that looks identical to the ebay link and it is considerably too short...it does not fit. Would you mind verifying that the ebay link is for the one you used in the video? Thanks.
