He's right.(Johny) I worked for a million dollar company about seven years ago. I was I only white guy on the field. They had a farm with a little house and they got about 50 guys from mexico to live in that three bedroom house. That company also charged those guys rent to sleep on the floor. They paid those guys eight dollars an hour. That's why they are a million dollar company.
good rant. I once had an owner of a landscaping / tree company give me some advice. Told him I was looking to expand and have some crews. He said yeah you can do that, but don't think you gonna be a millionaire, don't think you're gonna get rich. He said I've got crews and boom trucks and I got big bills and big headaches but I'm not a millionaire. It just put things in perspective. I see his ads everywhere but he's not a millionaire, he's just constantly trying to pay for all that equipment and crews. Who would of thought TruGreen isn't making big money.
I appreciate your honesty and clean language Johnny, do you ever consult for an hourly fee over the phone? I am going to possibly retire in July and would like to start a lawn care business to supplement my retirement. I have enough capital to purchase a trailer. Mower and other equipment necessary. I'm hesitant in purchasing a pickup because of startup capital preservation. I have a 2002 Saturn L 200 with a hitch right now. Thank You in advance for your respond. I have a degree in business and a lot of marketing experience. I cut lawns in Jr. High school! :)
This is stuff that'll never change lol I feel like we're very similar, we work our butt off go non stop just to get the bills paid and have a beer out with friends here and there trying hard to grow survive and do well and some magazine or even a person has to tell you your wrong and these people probably couldn't even tell you the brand of trucks there crews who don't speak English drive! All I can say is good on you for working hard and being fair to your employee (s)! I worked for a 10 + million dollar company got treated like shit paid shit and was told I was wrong for disagreeing with pore business practices! We probably won't make a million a year but at least we don't take photos and pride in losing a million a year lol

Ok first of all.... I use a mower until it cost more to fix than it's worth. I use a 12 year old Honda mower. I had to replace the pull rope and it's still going. Second of all. I don't have employees, it's just me and I have low overhead so my profit is closer to 80%. I don't read the crap...... It's not real..... Us guys that push or ride mowers and use trimmers are real.....
Those company's are making money. All the big guys on top are getting payed big money. All the money they put back in the company is considered a lose. Dont let them foul you. It's all a numbers game. You have to spend money to make money. I heard that some where..lol
