Silvestre Revueltas Sánchez fue un compositor mexicano modernista de música sinfónica de la primera mitad del siglo XX, violinista y director de orquesta. Es considerado como uno de los compositores más influyentes de México, por el alcance y originalidad de su música de cámara y de ciertas obras que se han vuelto una parte muy importante del repertorio orquestal.
Silvestre fue el hermano mayor de una gran familia de artistas, la mayoría de los cuales llegaron a ser personajes importantes de la vida cultural mexicana, como:
Fermín Revueltas (1901-1935), pintor y muralista.
Consuelo Revueltas (1909-1990), pintora naif.
Rosaura Revueltas (1910-1996), actriz y escritora.
José Revueltas (1914-1976), escritor, guionista y activista político.
Agustín Revueltas (1920-1996), artista y empresario.
Revueltas destacó en su infancia por ser un prodigio del violín. Silvestre obtuvo su primer violín cuando tenía siete años, y llegó a tocar su primer recital en 1911. Su padre lo mandó a la Ciudad de México para estudiar el instrumento, y posteriormente ingresar en el Conservatorio Nacional de Música. Estudió violín con José Rocabruna y composición con Rafael Tello.
La compleja situación en la publicación de sus obras ha provocado que su música no sea de dominio público hasta después del año 2020. En 1998 apareció la primera publicación del catálogo completo de las obras de Revueltas.

Silvestre Revueltas Sánchez was a Mexican modernist composer of symphonic music from the first half of the 20th century, violinist and conductor. He is considered one of the most influential composers in Mexico, due to the scope and originality of his chamber music and of certain works that have become a very important part of the orchestral repertoire.
Silvestre was the older brother of a large family of artists, most of whom became important characters in Mexican cultural life, such as:
Fermín Revueltas (1901-1935), painter and muralist.
Consuelo Revueltas (1909-1990), naive painter.
Rosaura Revueltas (1910-1996), actress and writer.
José Revueltas (1914-1976), writer, screenwriter and political activist.
Agustín Revueltas (1920-1996), artist and businessman.
Revueltas stood out in his childhood for being a violin prodigy. Silvestre obtained his first violin when he was seven years old, and he got to play his first recital in 1911. His father sent him to Mexico City to study the instrument, and then to enter the National Conservatory of Music. He studied violin with José Rocabruna and composition with Rafael Tello.
The complex situation in the publication of his works has meant that his music is not in the public domain until after 2020. In 1998 the first publication of the complete catalog of Revueltas' works appeared.

An interesting choice of ensemble. Maybe these were the instruments available to him at the time. Anyway, it is very much like a town band playing surreal Mexican music. Como sueno.

It's not an orchestral work. That's why there are not cellos, violas, percussion, hobo, horn, percussion... It was composer's decision. There's nothing extrange about it (there are thousands of works for a wide range of ensembles with different combinations of instruments).
