Ding pre pandemic was a monster man, he was shutting down entire engine lines from the likes of Caruana, Hikaru etc from beginning to end.

@@lythd it was primarily because China’s COVID restrictions fucked him over and prevented him from playing OTB chess for a very long time (even longer than other players because of China’s stricter restrictions). Also playing online events was difficult for him because of his timezone

The best player is Magnus (just going by pure knowledge). However, the greatest of all time is different depending on how you measure success. Kasparov had the longest reign. Morphy was ahead of everyone. Fischer was also ahead of everyone but in a different era. There’s no right answer here

@@Giulio-Romeo Have you ever heard of ratings ? It’s a system FIDE uses to rank players . People who don’t know much about chess are probably not aware of it . But it’s an objective measure of a players strength . So when someone makes an uninformed statement about the strength of a player , all that needs to be done is to compare the rating against other players . Based on that objective measure alone , someone claiming Fischer would not be on the list of top 100 players can be shown to not know what he is talking about .

And if you think the rating system has somehow changed in that time span , you’re wrong about that too . If anything , ratings have become inflated so that Fischers 2700 + rating in 1970 would easily be 2800 today . Again, you clearly don’t know what you’re talking about. And as an aside , find just one modern grandmaster who agrees with you . I’ll wait .
