What always happens in the early stages of a smash game is that Ice Climbers are considered bad and then end up being really good as the Meta develops
People need time practice dysync. God they look so sick in this game. Hand offs are some of the coolest smash combos

Double up air desync is easy and useful to ledge trap and make projectile walls. Also the jab-out-of-shield desync can lead to powerful kill combos.
Ice climbers are my favorite to watch pros destroy with. Props to anyone who has mastered this big brain character

Side B for Ice Climbers is actually so good. Decent damage, syncs the two Icys together if they're close, great coverage, long animation + hitbox, covers horizontal and even some vertical distance, desynced can lead into some combos, and if Icys are separated side B can be used to stall time (that long hitbox/animation) for the other climber to catch up, and after all this, side B comes out very quick and has only just a slight end lag.
No wonder it's heavily used by Big D. Props to Pandarian for managing to at least reset the bracket.
MarineFocus I think another big reason he used it so much was because of its insane priority. It helps out a ton with just going through razor leaf.

A hidden tech for the sideB is that it also has a very specific window on which you can desync the icies before the move finishes. In many occasions Big D uses it then intermediately shields BUT the desync already happens before he shields because it's buffered before sideB ends. If you dare to approach during that situation you better be sure you're getting blasted to the face with a Nana downB. The shielding helps to 1) cover up Nana's model so you can't instantly tell if she's shielding or attacking 2)If Popo gets attacked or grabed Nana's downB will free him from danger which leads to instant set up punishes.
I love how Big D can constantly pull this off because it's not exactly an easy timing to get this done all the time and yet he pulls it out most of the time. Just shows how much labing he must've done to get this character to this level.

Twitter combos are very situational and can be easily escaped from if alot of conditions are not met. Better go for confirmed setups then unreliable ones in tournaments

It was me who was playing as the secondary climber. It's really not us that's retarded but the rules we have to follow as the "AI climber" which makes us unable to do a lot of fucking shit that would be considered common sense. Fuck the programming team, man

Before the game released, mister Sakurai asked us to practice this AI nonsense like we've always done with every Smash game. Not being able to recover at negligible heights, not even able to use our side B to recover as the AI climber, it's almost second nature for us. Nana even has nightmares about this. I've complained about this since Melee, and all he says is that it's supposed to "make the playing field equal for everyone". Bullshit. I don't even know what AI means. I bet it means the Ass Ice-climber

Yeah fair point there, icies were just too much for him to handle. It's hard to play against icies when Big D is such a good icies player and they do quite well against Pokemon Trainer.

I usually can't fully sit through these in one go but I was glued to the screen the entire time.
This is one of those fights where you'll pay for the entire seat but you only use the edge!
I must say, it's quite refreshing to see Ice Climbers of all characters, in Grand Finals of a relatively big tournament. 😊

80% of the Ice Climbers meta is instilling a primal fear into your opponent. If you can open with a crazy ass desync zero to death, your opponent gets SO scared and panics in predictable ways!

I wish Big D didn't play the Nana alts, because it feels so weird to call Popo Nana and vice versa for me, but I know the commentators have to to avoid confusion.
It took me like 3 matches to realize it too man. I was like wait am I just wrong or are the commentators using their names wrong. I guess it was me. :

with ivysaurs up air, even if it is really hard to get around, is consistent. If you run up and grab icies, you dont really know which one your gonna grab, and then you take 60% from it. Its very easy to feel cheesed when you play against icies. Dosent mean they are broken though.
@the guy l This game is full of cheese, Icies being one out of many. I introduce you to Ivysaur, Lightning Loops, Snake in general, Palu nair doing literally everything, etc, etc.
@@nuibaba280 ice climbers take a lot of skill, they do have some cheesy stuff but they're completely fair, ultimate is the most balanced smash game by far
Ice Climbers are one of the only MUs where hitting the wrong one at the wrong time can lead to desych pressure or combo setups that easily lob off 40%+. That is a scary choice to make, in other MUs, you'd be in advantage, but here it can be a serious detriment if you're not on point.

I think there are many mistakes about who is Nana and who is Popo about it.
Due to the Ice Climbers appearance that Big D wears, Popo is now Nana and Nana is now Popo, we can figure this out because of the haircut.
