      Dragon quest 11 is a masterpiece of casual games i wish they added more rpg mechanics like fishing housing to attractions in their casinos to give more reasons to come back with these being optional end game content people could easily miss or something
      as a gamer who has way to much time to game rpgs like this are for when i tired myself out on fortnite and my mental energy wants something more lax

    Currently playing it right now on the Switch and it bring so MUCH nostalgia, which is weird because it's my first Dragon Quest game. It takes me back to a simpler time when games weren't SO convoluted as many games are nowadays. It's fantastic

      It’s why I have been a fan of DQ series from the start instead of FF series. It’s why other series that’s more grindy such Legend of Heroes series, starting with Trails of Cold Steel arc in my case, as well as a bit of Phantasy Star series appeal to me as well.

    It truly is a modern version of a 1980’s JRPG, with an attempt at perfecting all the things that made that era of JRPGs so great. It’s a modern game that somehow feels foundational to the genre.

    Also, mindless grinding with an old-school turn based RPG is a relaxing way to unwind after a hard day's work!
    Another thing I love about these games is that they're entirely based on statistics and math probability.

    I appreciate this game for what it is. I’m surprised I found it as cozy as I did back in 2018/2019, and while there are some things to annoy me about it, I’m glad it exists. It really does feel like a love letter to old school turn based rpgs while still being accessible.

    DQ11 was my first time playing the series after hearing about DQ for years. When I learned Toriyama did the art design, I knew I had to give it a go. Ended up spending 200+ hours and platinuming it. Then, I went on to play my favorite game of all time, DQ8. Words cannot express how perfect these two games are to me. Perfect, not in the sense that any one thing is perfect, but the feeling of perfection, of exploring, of gearing up, of getting to know and eventually care for your party members, of searching for that next Puff-Puff. I just cannot express how much I love these games. Ever since I finished 11, I've been constantly searching for that feeling of perfection again. But I know nothing will ever match it. Really looking forward to DQ12.

    I know exactly what you mean when you say it's nostalgic, because for me, early in my gaming days when I must've been around 9 I played Dragon Warrior on the NES and not only was it my first ever RPG, but also was my favourite game at the time. Still would replay it now, too. And I'm telling you, the best part about DQ11 is everything that stayed the same. It feels like the original just got a MASSIVE upgrade, like getting more characters in your party! That alone made makes the adventure all the more better than the original where it was only Hero. Still on my first play of it now, (getting back my lost party memebers) and I've loved every second of it. Except the gambling, that can burn for all I care😅

    I loved DQXI so much! It was my first real DQ experience (I played a bit of IX of the DS, but didn't care for it for some reason) and it felt so good and comfortable having big budget turn based RPG on home console again. There are some great turn based RPGs that come out over the recent years (Bravely Default, Octopath Travelers, Sea of Stars...), but most of them have very low ambition when it comes to visual presentation, I love that DQXI game the genre the respect it deserves in a way by making it a real AAA game or maybe a AA+ game at least.

    Dragonquest XI S is my first Dragonquest game ever and OH MY GOD HAS IT BEEN A BLAST SO FAR. I remember downloading the demo on my computer and was first off suprised by how long the demo was in general and was contemplating if steam actually just gave me the whole game lol. Then I got the game via ps plus a while back but never played it and it sat on my ps4 along with persona 5. I then went and played persona 5 after I played through my first rpg world ever (that I can recall) final fantasy 7 and fell in love with RPGs and their long stories and giant open worlds. That’s all I l want in games as I find those enjoyable rather than the gameplay loop of things like COD and battle royales and DQ XI S delivered that while also taking me back to the feelings I had while playing ff7 for the first time (and why I’ve replayed ff7 multiple times lol). I also see a lot of similarities between bothe stories and more and honestly I’m here for it. All in all, this game is quickly becoming one of the games in my top 10 games with how enjoyable it is. Another thing I enjoyed was the feeling I got when I got to the world tree. I thought I was almost done with the game only for mordugan and jasper to sneak attack us all and separate the entire party forcing me to find them all again and then proceed to find another way to defeat him now that he has the world tree’s power. It’s like playing an anime/ interactive movie and I’m excited to see how it all ends

    Dragon Quest is one of the most consistent franchise I've seen. Whether if it's the mainline games, spinoffs or crossovers, there are so many good DQ games. It doesn't changed the gameplay nor tone that many RPG'S does and keeps it as simple & formulaic as they can. While at the same time, evolves them into modernized hardware, added an few features that doesn't dramatically change the formula and has some complex & challenges. It keeps on doing what it does and that's not an bad thing. There isn't any DQ games that were bad nor that awful. With maybe an couple of an exception; like DQ6 or DQ7 for me. But even those aren't exactly what I call bad games. But there are still many good ones that the team knows how to make these games. It's also why I loved Metroid & Kirby so much. I don't mind changes. But I don't want them to use the charm or style that makes the series so good. Hopefully the franchise continues to keep that trait and leaves it as to what makes them special.

    Dragon Quest XI is one of my favourites in the series. Only behind 5 and 3. Maybe par with 4 or above it! I hope they have more thoughtfully placed enemies in the next, better animation and less corridor like maps.
    On the Final Fantasy comparison I strongly disagree however. The company has 2 rather similar products. It makes total sense to take 2 strategies. On top of this those who miss final fantasy of old can play Octopath Traveller if Dragon Quest doesn't fit the bill.
    And all that said Dragon Quest X is a mainline game without the same combat.

Not everything has to be sweaty button mashers.

    Nice review but I really hate the struggle to lvel up in DQ, we all end just farming metal slimes. Is the same issue I have with Souls games but I have beaten all of them my fav is Sekiro no grinding require but the point I am trying to make is....just Pump up the exp points each enemy gives dammit, that way people can farm whatever enemy is not difficult to understand.
    Metal slime can still give the hightest amount of exp but since the bastards can run away and are difficult to kill until you get guarantee crits or just luck they are still special but not mandatory.
    Another thing I am aware and I did like about DQ XI is when you play with draconian options ON you farm for loot instead of EXP and they can make a huge difference in your strategy and setup and that's great. Leveling up is mostly because of the Skill points needed for climb up the skill trees/boards.
    I know there are farming seed spots but those aren't reliable until midway thorught the game right up to post game, I like that DQ XI at least have Options.

    • @HamZero
      @HamZero  Před 4 měsíci

      I think you hit the nail on head with grinding in DQ. What they need to do is make the grinding inclusive with all monsters. They could do it where certain equipped weapons can add more exp points for fighting specific monsters. Like if I had a holy sword, fighting a dark enemy, can increase exp points by a certain amount. Fire sword > plant monsters. Minor elemental weaknesses, but produce more exp because of it. Metal slimes are the exception lol. Thanks for commenting!

BUT, this year I felt like I played everything that was on the shelves and that there was nothing interesting left out there for me. I decided to give those JRPG a try and WoW ! I started right away with chrono trigger and FFVI, loved it ! and then Trails in the sky FC, amazing. Now im 2 hours into DQXI and im loving it so far!

    I bought this game on switch, and after playing 6-7 hours (I know it is not much, I am talking just about the beginning), I didn’t really liked it and don’t want to continue. For me the main problem is fight loop. So far there were no boss fights and all open world fights are just one-two melee attacks and that’s it. (I stopped at the moment where you use a dog to distract a guard to get in the city). Also it doesn’t have any unique mechanics, for comparison in smt you hit weakness to get additional moves, in persona you hit weakness to do all out attack or gain additional move, in octopath traveller you can boost your skills up to 3 times to gain more damage or more hits. All those things you use EVERY battle, which makes those jrpgs different and unique in terms of combat. What do we have in dragon quest? PepUp which works once per like 15 minutes.(fusion spells from P3 are better). So I have a question, is game gonna become better soon? Or I will still have to just use melee attacks all the time? I mean I saw all those skills in skill tree, but for example fire skill you get in the beginning is straight up useless and does less damage than my greatsword. I started playing octopath traveller 2 instead and you know what, in 4 hours I got like 3 big cool boss fights which were hard and very engaging story. Dragon Quest so far: well you are the chosen one (so cliche) and you should just go somewhere I don’t know. And there was fun scene where you run from the dragon. Well that’s all. You beat a few slimes and trees also. “Fun”. So far I feel like I wasted my money but I am willing to give like 5 more hours to this game.
    Maybe I didn’t understand something? No toxic, just want to understand if I missed something or is it really like this?

      @HamZero  Před 5 měsíci

      I totally understand what you mean. For me it's the simplicity of the RPG that's very Niche (Battle system, Story, Graphics). Its the same as Mario Rpg Remake - The story compared to FF or Octopath is incomparable. A Mario story is nothing compared to how deep other RPGs are and that includes gameplay. What DQ has is simplicity like Mario. You can actually ignore the story and still have fun grinding and at the end of the day, still be able to comprehend it. The Battle system is simple to like Mario RPG. Their style of turn-base in essence never changed. They've done minor tweaks but refused to make big changes. Don't look at DQ as sophisticated, but more of a casual story with old school turn-base mechanics.

      it doesn't get better, in fact the more you play the more the lack of any sort of spin or innovation weights on you. I wish the combat was the only thing too dull about it, the story and progression aren't any better.

    I wanna play this with a bad@$$ bro where I work. But his friends don't want him making extra money, they rather him stand in full time job doing "fun" work.... awe, they jealous, know they can't get free reward. Can't win them all. 🤣🤣🤣

    The best DQ was 8. The problem with DQ11 is that it was far too easy. The fights were boring. I never needed new equipment. In DQ8 i was happy about every new merchant to buy better equipment because DQ8 was challenging. 11 was way too easy. I would like to wipe in a dungeon because the feeling when you finally make it is just so much better

      Oh ya, DQ8 was definitely harder and if not, better than DQ11. I just love how they modernized DQ11, even with the difficulty reduction. I would say it's balanced out.

      @@HamZero also think dragon quest viii has the nicer inventory. on the ps2. I don't like the scroll down menu of the items in dq11. the interface of the ps2 version of dq8 is much nicer than that of dq11. what do you think?

      @HamZero  Před 5 měsíci

      I don't mind the inventory for both to be honest.
