      The debate is he was painted as a pathological liar for the last 40 years... And many many many many many things that he has said... Have been corroborated and proven by other human beings. Okay we don't have actual film of him fighting... And we have not proven that I get that... But the fact that a whole bunch of media intentionally painted him as a liar... saying this that and the third... When we come to find out that all of those things were actually true... at the very least... Casts a shadow of a doubt on the way they portrayed him.
      Nowadays people who know absolutely nothing about martial arts... think kickboxing and BJJ are THE ONLY effective martial arts because Joe Rogan...
      A professional actor with a fight record of 0-0... Said so.

    I grew up around the corner from Frank and knew of Mr. Tanaka. I wasn’t as close to him as Frank was but remember he had a charming smile and a pleasant little garden he tended. I can confirm this is all real. Tanaka only briefly showed he was hiding a less than peaceful past when our neighborhood was invaded by zombies in 1983. Believing my family to be doomed, a cloaked figure appeared out of nowhere, dispatched every last zombie and then was about to disappear into the sunset when I was able to tug on his sleeve and ask him what his name was and how I could repay him. He lifted up just enough of his mask to reveal that all too familiar smile. I never saw him after that. Frank went on to rebuild our small town by hand, nailing each board by hand and welding each piece of metal with chi. To all the haters, don’t believe everything you read on the internet

    A note to Adam McKinley:
    David frames a debate and let's the audience make it's own decisions. He has been the most fair interviewer I have watched on this platform in the Martial Arts genre. He trains himself, he has a love of the same movies and content we all grew up with and he has heard all the same info any of us have heard or read throughout the years regarding other martial artists yet stays 100% un biased in order to frame the debate and get the knowledge flowing so we CAN make our own minds up. And I have to say I appreciate it so much. Other channels put out love or hate videos, Viking Samurai puts out the debate video and brings in great guests, like you, in order to see the issue from all angles. In order to know the mountain, one has to see it from every angle.

    Interesting bit from wikipedia: Johnson reported he could find no evidence of Dux's alleged teacher Senzo "Tiger" Tanaka in history books or from other martial arts experts. Dux told Johnson he did not know the whereabouts of Tanaka or even if he was still alive, though in later years changed his story to say it was Tanaka's dying wish for him to compete in the Kumite. When Johnson pointed out that Dux's teacher has the same name as a ninja commander from Ian Fleming's James Bond novel You Only Live Twice, Dux responded by saying that Fleming "used to base his characters on real people". In March 2017, Dux wrote an article saying he had found Tanaka's death certificate, which showed he had died in Los Angeles in 1975, though as of 2016 Dux's website said that Tanaka died in Japan. For all other Martial Arts masters, teachers, instructors, or so forth, there is no need to have to prove their existence, as their schools, students, and so forth speak for themselves. Thus, to have to prove that someone even lived on this earth, (for Martial Artists,) disproves that they were a Martial Arts Master, Instructor, Teacher, or Coach. It's the same as "Jones", "Smith" or "Johnson" in the U.S. "Senzo" is typical of older Japanese names (early to mid 20th Century), so it's not unbelievable that the name existed, and that an immigrant with that name existed in LA during the 60s-70s.

    Oh please.
    Even if Mr. Tanaka existed, we’d still need to establish the existence of the so-called Tanaka clan. Where was it based from? What domain did it served? What are the circumstantial historical claims and evidences supporting or suggesting the existence of the clan? Accepting that the story being told by Mr. Dux was indeed one conveyed by Mr. Tanaka, we’d still need to prove Mr. Tanaka’s claims.
    But let me ask this: how is Mr. Tanaka’s full name written in Kanji? And his wife’s name? And how is it that all documents purportedly associated with the man’s existence are always written in English, and not in Japanese? Has anyone engaged in research using the Japanese language, and if so what are the findings?
    It’s not reasonable to do English-only research regarding a man who is purported to be born in late 1800’s Japan and hope to prove anything conclusively. I’d be great if such research dug out anything, but until them, I’d suggest that strong skepticism is the only reasonable position to take given the bombastic and culturally misaligned nature of Mr. Dux’s general claims concerning the source and origin of his martial prowess.

    Viking, see if you can find Jeffrey Strompf who was a U.S Cryptologist for the U.S. Government Covert Operations. In an interview he talked about working with Frank Dux and stated what an amazing and talented man Frank Dux is. There are a few early videos about Frank you should see. One is 'Thats Incredible with Frank Dux'. And a better one, 'AMSI Archive 010 from Martial Arts Today'. I think these videos will help you about the controversy about Frank Dux. When I was younger and participated in Martial Arts competition they were not tight the way they are today with style and weight classes. We had Artists that were Blue belts beating Black belts. People were getting hurt.. So I learned early that style and level weren't as important as the teacher and hands on practical training you had. Artist that had well rounded training in their Art, boxing, ground game, good kicking abilities were the better Martial Artists. I give credit where credit is due. Real resistance training and a well rounded training in all positions will weed out the more effective artists. That's why Bruce Lee was a revolutionary at the time. He was a mixed martial artist before those concepts were popular. So Frank Dux has knowledge and skills I've seen in which videos I could find online. These skills can only be achieved thru training. The only problem I have with Frank is the Bulllit Proof Glass demonstration was bull. That doesn't mean he has not been an inspiration to many. I respect anyone who puts in the time to be a martial artist. Is hard to train, be consistent, and gain skills. Frank is the Inspiration for Blood Sport. So whatever side of the fence you are on with the Frank, he inspired a generation to train in Martial Arts. That's a good thing. It's true and positive. I agree with Don Wilson about why is everything so secretive with Frank Dux? Release these secret films he has. Show some CIA documentation. Most has been so long ago and may be declassified by now. Even if most information is blacked out. Release them. What's the secret? No one living back then or the history of these special ops matters today. I do respect Frank Dux skill in teaching. It's very knowledgeable. And some of the film I've seen of Frank show skill. But to get to the real truth of the kumite is to release the evidence that he has and show people his secret ops background. It would settle a lot of speculation and criticism of Frank. But any interview I've ever seen him in, and any demonstration he's ever given, including teaching, he has always been soft-spoken and humble. Whether you believe his explanations or not on his background, he gives good and reasonable answers. Most of the phony martial artists cannot. So in the the end Viking, I hope the name I gave you about the cryptologist and the videos I recommended involving Frank, will help you. And maybe you can do another show on these. Thank you for your good work and I love your show.

    @nicoperez1064 Před 2 lety +4

    Adam should've shown Dux photos of different Japanese men and include the photo of Senzo Tanaka from the files and get him to pick out the right photo. Even at different ages the photos from the files would still hold enough resemblance for Dux to recognise his master. I don't think the thumb scar is enough evidence. It might be a fairly common for martial artists from Tanaka's era that trained with katana to have a thumb scar from drawing and sheathing the katana.

    • @ashscott6068
      @ashscott6068 Před 2 lety +1

      EXTREMELY common. The thumb is used to locate the tip of the sword and guide it into the saya without having to look. If you go too far, you get cut. It's the back of the sword, but it's sharp right at the tip. The idea is to raise your thumb above the opening in the saya, and draw the back of the sword over your thumb until you feel where it narrows at the tip. Then you know where everything is in 3D space, cus the same hand is also holding the saya. But everyone gets carried away at some point and tries to do it too fast too soon. And I guess people don't realise that even the back of a blade cuts, right at the very tip.
      If you trained with a katana, you have cut your thumb like this. I doubt anyone has ever gotten away with it not happening to them.

      No, not jealous at all. People who aren't naive just don't believe his countless lies and bullshit.
      Just because people don't believe him and call him out on his made up stories doesn't make them jealous haters.

    Bloodsport portrayed Tanaka as a fisherman not working at a graveyard. But it could be Hollywood stuff to make the character more authentic 🤷🏾

  • @BrennerBay
    @BrennerBay Před 2 lety +2

    It’s not that Tanaka existed, it’s was he a “ Ninjutsu” master and did he train Ducks..
    Over the years I have met and trained and worked in all kinds of jobs and places,
    some like the guys I crewed for on boats, were retired military pilots…but I don’t claim that they taught me how to fly an airplane. Knowing someone and claiming mastery of an imaginary martial art learned from them are two different things.
    Training a mediocre martial artist to be better isn’t that big a deal, that’s why a good sensei
    is a good sensei.Self taught can often teach bad habits that can be easily spotted and addressed.
    A scar on the thumb? I worked after school cleaning fish…I have scars all over my hands, but it doesn’t prove anything except I was young and working in near darkness.
    Also…a red flag…Shotokan wasn’t around 200 years ago…Gichin Funikoshi developed the system in the late 20’s early 30’s….how this guy could make that mistake says he isn’t much in research.

    Still the guy lied more then he told the truth. It’s one thing to add a little spice to make a story more entertaining. It’s another thing to claim your a Medal of Honor winner.
    For a lie to last this long it has to have just enough truth you can’t prove it all wrong.
    Personally I think he’s full of it.

    Forget the "Mandela Effect", what we have here is "Small Man Syndrome Effect" of people trying to destroy a once hero's reputation by all means. Like Viking said, probably because of the Van Damme case, sort of like the Novak Djokavic effect at the moment, Worlds No.1 player refuses to take the jab and suddenly half the World hates him and the media are relentless on him. Why would Frank pick a name out of the air in 1980 like Senzo Tanaka, not to mention his wife"s name and think, Oh!, I'll go to the National Archives and see if he exists and then study him in case someone asks me in 2023 if he exists over a movie I'm going to do in 1988? Or look him up in 2022-23 like Adam did. I tend to believe him, some details obviously have been distorted by Production in the movie, but I find Frank quite credible when he talks about his times, I'm good at finding contradictions but Frank seems very credible. On a side note, I was introduced to A.P. George through a friend, the Referee in Bloodsport, when he was working at a Hotel in Sydney Australia in the mid 90's and had a good conversation with him. Nice guy!
