    @zetetic0void Exactly right. The end of the last ice age is when people started settling down into agricultural, large communities. What do we know about the thawing ice age at that time? There were many ice damns in valleys around the world, holding back lots of melt water. These damns broke, not all at once, but basically you get many local massive flooding events. Their "whole world" floods. Of course these people would contribute this to the gods and create legends and stories from these.

    @Gaaminator My main point out of all this is that once you take the leap of faith on taking Bible or any other holy book as your source of evidence, there is no much to be discussed on absurdity or not. It's your position that whatever the Bible says must be true and that's why I must insist if you have a direct answer to my question. Would really make a difference or not the amount of days? Is there a limit to what you could stop and think it's absurd the flood story?

  • @georgetcr

    @ggiahehsoo - It is known that the ancient greeks and chinese found dinosaur bones, didn't know what they were, and thus you have the birth of the "cyclops" and "dragon" legends. Is it possible that the bible is doing the same thing, or are you really saying that dinosaurs lived 5,000 years ago?

    @Gaaminator 285 days and counting ...
    After 86 more days the earth had dried to the point where they could depart from the ark (Genesis 8:13-14).
    Yeap, about 370+ days. If you doubt it, check your Christians sites.
    What do they teach in Sunday school these days?
    Now, to the point. What do you really care? If the Bible said it had last over 1 day or over a century, you would still believed.
    What difference does it make to you? Really?

  • @lovemrdarcy
    @lovemrdarcy Před 14 lety

    @Gaaminator There are no sources outside the Bible. Gaarminator. And if you are really interested in how the Bible was written, there are by now many historic research on it. And you will find in your research also contradictions on the 4 stories. And before you even take the rode to say that it's my account, you better know that the contradictions are even famous. You can find them easily as well like the flood's interpretation that I mention. I see no point in placing here verses over verses.

Then Genesis 7:24 "And the waters prevailed upon the earth an hundred " ...

    @lovemrdarcy Před 14 lety

    @Gaaminator It's not a theory, it's a fable. And the way you change the discussion says it all, 'well,...'. Never even bothering to think about the difference between what you first assumed ( 40 days, what already be enough to kill many) to 370 days!! What do you think about that? And no, they did not find Noah's Ark, again! Like always, desperate 'Christian' archeologists find wood and claim to be the ark, not even allowing real scientists to analyze it.

You have structured your god "theory" so that no evidence of any kind can falsify it. If you would like to have a debate based on logic and evidence, I am game. If you don't want to use logic and evidence, well then I guess that says alot about the validity of your claim.

    - Next, the waters were "going and decreasing" for 74 days (Genesis 8:5).

    @Gaaminator Now, I'm curious. Are you really hoping this was 40 days? Meaning that even you would have a limit of absurd and if indeed you see that the Bible ( and religious interpretations) clearly presents the flood as a whooping 370 days, even you would THEN say... wait a minute. 40 days I could swallow but 370? No, then I have to rethink this thing. Are you serious here? Tell me. What difference would make to you? That would be finally your wake up call? I kind of doubt that.

    @Gaaminator 'The point is There was a world wide flood and every single culture has a story of a world wide flood". Yes Gaaminator, and from this I think we can jump and assume that 1: the flood really happened; then go ahead and say it was global (imagining how someone could know that in ancient times) ; and finally, conclude that the Bible is right. Details about how this would be possible are put on the 'everything is possible for God' and there you go, it is a fact !

    @ggiahehsoo Yes, the bible does say that. But my previous point still stands, that is, why are those stories any different from the ancient chinese stories of dragons, and the greek stories of giant cyclops? Why would you think that the bible story is accurate history, and not just a myth like the previously mentioned ones? Especially with the HUGE amount of evidence that points to dinosaurs being millions of years old, it should be obvious that these are just stories.

  • @GoldwireIT
    @GoldwireIT Před 14 lety

    @judoyodan it's not a matter of being stupid or ignorant. The problem is the people who believe this stuff don't have a good grasp of psychology/critical thinking. Even if you were to try to educate them out of these type of beliefs they would fight your info as to not upset what they already know. It's just how the mind works unfortunately. They are trained to think that way. Once you are indoctrinated into beliefs it is very difficult to escape that way of thinking.

  • @lovemrdarcy
    @lovemrdarcy Před 14 lety

    @Gaaminator Oh right, the gospels! Since you are saying 'witnesses' I have to think you must have no idea that the gospels were written OVER A HUNDRED YEAR after Jesus. And the gospels were really anonymous. So much for witnesses, huh? So, let's summarize. You base your evidence of everything on a book that has tons of contradictions. And on top of that, you seems to be in the selected few (even among religious) that does not know that the gospels were not written by eye witnesses of Jesus life.

    @deserteagle347 It was reading the bible that made me an atheist in the first place. Nice try though. I can tell that it is you who hasn't read it, saying that "every word in it is true" is absolutely hilarious. Even if we don't consider the MANY scientific impossibilities, and use just the stories themselves, every word can't be true; because there are so many internal contradictions. For example, in genesis, which came first, humans or the other animals? Check it out.

    @lovemrdarcy Also, this shows you low standards for believing in anything. Even if a man called Jesus ever existed, how can you automatically take that the stories in the Bible are real? Fables are born like this. By your logic, I can then assume that count Dracula existed -- because there is vague mentions of a historic figure. And then go ahead and believe in the fable created by written stories about him and there you go, you believe in vampires. That's the line you take in here. Gullible.

    I live in the U.S, sadly, my dad and grandparents believe this story to be true. I tend to feel sorry for them, because they are living in the superstitious past, instead of seeing the universe for the truly amazing thing that it is through the knowledge that science has revealed. It is depressing when you look down on your elders because of the immaturity of their rationality. It should be the other way around.
