Gary wrote & released this as a single in the UK in late 1986. I remember hearing the first ever UK radio playing of Over the hills & far away on the late Tommy Vance's Friday Night Rock show on Radio 1 in Nov 86 & thinking this is fantastic. The whole Wild Frontier album is really good.

Always good to hear a new reaction to Moore, who wrote this song and released it in 1986.
A guitar virtuoso in all styles, you could get to the summit in one leap by watching 'The Messiah Will Come Again - LIVE' on YT.

No not Tom Sizemore.. lol. Got to visit the Emerald Isle for the first time this past summer. They love their music. Got drunk in a "locals only" pub in Dublin back in August. Had Karaoake, no Over The Hills, but the Crowd loved when I did Whiskey In the Jar. Actually had a drink bought for me when I ended the song and said "We miss you Phil and Gary". God Damn I need to go back! Thank you for this video!

Gary Moore is legendary, and i will not diminish his talent.
But, you need to watch Dan Vasc's version of this one.
    You'll love it.

Greetings and Love from Köln/Cologne, Germany. Yeah, i'm so happy that you go on a Gary journey...i expirience him once live..in 1989. Unbelieveable. And sadwise is he very underatet. I have to see your reaction when you see him playing 'The Messiah will come again' live at Montreux Jazz Festival, 1991 or 1992, i think. I send you the link. I'm sure you gonna be few times without any words. Thats why i love your reactions. You're totaly into it, you feel it and the respect you show each time is remarkable. Thanks for Gary, buddy...stay safe & PEACE ✌

Hello my friend and welcome to the World of Gary Moore. In my humble opinion the best guitarist ever to walk this earth.
Gary could play any style he wanted to from Blues, Jazz-Fusion, Rock, even Neo-classical.
This particular song is different from the traditional British folk song dating back to the 17th century.
Over The Hills and Far Away can be termed as Celtic Rock and was indeed written by Gary. Of course the Nightwish version is taken from Gary's.
Gary's musical journey jumps from Blues to Rock to Jazz-Fusion back to Rock, back to Blues, back to Rock and back to Blues, with a few others inbetween. So it is difficult to know where to go from here. But as you mentioned that Gary was obviously a Guitar Guru, may I suggest that you react to Gary Moore The Messiah Will Come Again Live.
    Here is the link:
    czcams.com/video/7k07j7LcLqw/video.html
You will witness an absolute guitar master at work. No vocals, they are not needed and believe me, you will see probably the best guitar playing that you will.
I look forward to seeing your reaction and I hope that you enjoy the journey. 😁
    Kindest regards to you.
    😊😎🎸🇬🇧🇺🇦

Gary Moore is a legend. I have known his music since my teenage years....hence my age... no wonder Tommy likes him so much. He has great song a beautiful voice and unbelievable guitarskills. There are so many great songs. Gary sings a lot about oppression. He was Irish so he He used his talents to speak out against what was happening in northern Ireland in the 70' and 80'. Let me recommend one specific song about that topic. Out in the field. A song he did together with Phil Lynotte his buddy from his band Thin Lizzy. Great song. Dud you ever hear Tommy's version of over the hills? It is a tribute to Gary.
By the way the actors name in that video, is Mark Ryan. He is an English actor mostly known for an 80' TV show called Robin of Sherwood.

Oh my god Gary! you should definitely check Empty rooms live in Stokholm 87. This song will gives you comfortably numb level of goosebuumps in the final solo!
Also The loner is a great instrumental hit, lets the guitar sing. Wild frontier is another rock hit you should check imho.
I dont even start suggesting his blues and guitar virtuoso songs because you should be into the genre, or a guitar player to fully, fully apreciate them, but if you really want to understand how good is Gary at guitar the messiah will come again is your song to check.
imho he is the greatest guitarist of all time, not for overall tecnique, but for melodies, licks, and the pure raw passion he can transmit trough his playing, he is even above David Gilmour about emotions.

This is an excellent track but a bit shorter than the album version that Tommy J covered. There's more guitar outtro on the original rather than this fade out version. Having said that it's a great introduction to Gary Moore & look forward to more of your reactions.

I'm thrilled that you are now exploring Gary Moore. This track is great but doesn't really demonstrate what he can do. For that you need his live performances such as Empty Rooms, Still Got the Blues, Red House, Parisienne Walkways ........ Gary Moore is to guitaring what Tarja is to singing. There's no higher praise

  • @renejensen7799
    @renejensen7799 Před rokem +1

Actually i think Nighwish stay very close to the original, biggest diffrence is that its Gary singing here, and Tarja on the other, the musical pattern is almost the same.. but yes they sound diffrent surely..
