  • The GR10 is one of three hiking trails that traverses the length of the Pyrenees Mountain range, on the border between France and Spain. 955km (593 miles) in length, it starts at Hendaye on the Atlantic coast, and terminates in Banyuls-Sur-Mer on the Mediterranean coast, staying on the French side of the mountain range.
I hiked a roughly 281km (wrongly quoted 175km in previous videos!) section of the trail in September 2022, starting at the picturesque mountain village of Etsaut, passing through some of the most stunning parts of the Pyrenees - the Pic du Midi d'Ossau, Gavarnie and Vignemale, on my way to finish at the small village of Fos.
This is footage from part three of my hike, from Luz-Saint-Sauveur to Saint-Lary-Soulan.

Absolutely loved this! The GR10 is top of my trail wishlist. I need to get a bit more experience in the UK first though. Also liked seeing the Xmid as I've just ordered one for next season - looking forward to having a little bit of space for not too much weight.

Thanks Micky! Hope you enjoy your X-Mid when it arrives. The GR10 is stunning, there's some long steep climbs but it's definitely worth the effort!

I didn't pay attention earlier that you were using the "Winter" version of the X-Mid: what are your feelings compared to the "regular" X-Mid that you also own if I remember well?

Hey Eric. I did have the regular X-Mid. I actually sold the outer but kept the mesh inner, then I bought the solid X-Mid with the darker colour and slightly reinforced outer. Now, I can swap inners between solid and mesh depending on my needs.
The solid inner handles condensation a lot better than the mesh one, and also obviously blocks out a lot more of the drafts. With it being mostly solid, it does feel a little more enclosed when you're inside, but that's just a mental thing. The magnets on the outer doors are a brilliant addition. The stake points are reinforced and the guy lines are also more durable. I'm more than happy taking the tiny weight penalty in return for the extra durability.

@@PaulandaPack Wow, selling the fly was a brilliant idea 😎I'm not claustrophobic but it's true I love the all-mesh inner of the regular X-Mid, seing my stuff under the outer fly. May I ask about "the solid inner handles condensation better"? Do you mean you there is less condensation on the interior side of the fly? (I may have a lot these days, as the T° is going down).
      Thanks in advance, Paul!

@@eric_festinger I found that the mesh inner wouldn't stop much/any condensation that dripped onto it from the outer fly, and I'd get droplets of water coming down onto my sleeping bag. It wasn't a huge problem for me as I didn't experience any really heavy condensation nights while I used the mesh inner. With the solid Inner, I didn't have this problem at all - the solid material caught and absorbed all of the droplets that came off the outer tent, and on my third night of use, I was camped on wet grass, right next to a stream - there was a lot of condensation.

@@PaulandaPack OK, that makes sense. Thank you Paul, and happy trails!
