Good to hear Mike talk about 'Career Girls', it is often overlooked in his work. It has great characterisation and insight, and is flawed only by one unlikely 'chance meeting' too many!
It's one of my favorite Leigh-films, very overlooked I agree. The cast is just outstanding. Ricky (Mark Benton), what a performance.
I was born in the same year that this interview was conducted, i changed a lot during the years in between i must say, but these gentlemen, they haven't changed a bit :-)
What I find so interesting are these special moments in life when you instantly know, like ML knew at the age of 12 that he wanted to become a filmmaker. These moments are unpredictable and in their quality distinct from normal mode - revealing.
Interviewer: “ it could be that I’m not interested in the underlife of London… “
.... it could be you’re not interested in people.
Or itt could be that he is not interested in the underlife of London?
@@alan9278 Or it could be that he's interested in the underlife of women's underwear.
I may be wrong but I get the impression this interviewer does little research. It seems he either asks very general questions or latches on to points the interviewee makes.
BLAH Blah blah! Love Leigh but why can we not get any video of his best filmed work, Abigail`s party?
I'm glad he's doing new stuff. Where is the you tube access (our tube) to Abigail`s party footage from the bbc? It's all been blocked! All we can access is the most recent play footage!? I want to see Alison Steadman x
Here ya go pal!

Abigails party started his career. It should have ended it.
