FILM DESCRIPTION:
Career-minded Kenya McQueen (Sanaa Lathan) is set up on a blind date with architect Brian Kelly (Simon Baker), but backs out when she realizes that he is white. Impressed with his work on a friend's mansion, McQueen hires Kelly to design her new garden -- and he sweeps her off her feet. But, after her friends introduce her to executive Mark Harper (Blair Underwood), McQueen must choose between the type of man she always dreamed she wanted and giving in to life's little surprises.

God the awkardness just seeps through the screen. this was really natural palpable acting and the pace and rhythm was perfect for capturing how weird of an experience this was for her and how uptight she felt about it all.

I haven't seen the film, but one observation about this scene: she's going on a blind date with a guy named Brian Kelly. That's a very Irish American name. I'm surprised she didn't suspect he'd be white.
Don't be so ignorant! She is a Black american woman living in the US. She didn't have any reason to know he was White just because of his English name, since Black americans also have English names. There are many Brians in the black community and there are also many Kelly in the black community. E.g: Some black celebrities: R. Kelly, Jim Kelly etc.

I know Black Americans can have English sounding names, but Brian Kelly sounds very Irish all the same. Hence my initial comment: it comes off as a complete surprise to her.
