Wet weather sika stalking - Fieldsports Ireland episode 14

- The best way to test hunting kit is to use it in the worst weather. Jason Doyle takes to the hills in a downpour to try out a trio of American tools for his new series, Stalking Success Ireland. He has a Savage Arms 110 High Country in .270 with Hornady ammunition and a bag of Leupold Optics ready to brave the soft Irish weather. High in the Wicklow Mountains there's a sika buck with his name on it. All he has to do is to pick it out of the crowd and take it home.

Kia ora and good day everyone,
Another great video and many thanks for sharing, greetings from faraway land of New Zealand.
Thanks Tony. / Charlie
Another really professional episode Jason and 👍🏻 for leaving the higher quality stags to breed-brilliant stuff🙂
For someone that left his cameraman behind, what an amazing job Jason did with the selfie stick. Good film and good to hear Leupold are back with good optics. Nice film, thanks.
Colin Johnston thanks Colin. Glad you enjoyed it
@@jasondoyle6061 please remind me which Leupold scope you were using. Is it the VX-5HD 3-15x56mm?
That’s correct Colin. It has a really tasty illuminated dot as that was perfect in this situation.
How nice it must be to work alone surrounded by nature. Great shot btw :)
Great shot. Those Savage rifles are accurate out of the box. Really enjoyed this show thank you.
Really enjoy the footage from Fieldsports Ireland Keep up the good work!
Great video. 👍
That's was a beautifully made episode lads. That shot scene was filmed very well. intense stuff. Cheers
FEARY888 thank you very much. The weather made it tricky to film but added to the atmosphere of the film.
Besides the part where he takes the safety off and the scope cap is still on haha
@@Freezermeat artistic licence man, made it better to watch with the b roll added in but funny spot all the same😆
Excellent show as ever big fella, brilliant addition to the fieldsports family 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Scott McCleary thank you sir
That was really nice shot with that wind. Nice film, guys.
Great episode. Well made. Hunting in conditions as we see here can be tricky, but you did well Jason😊
Thumbs up immediately.
Kjell Hvamb thank you!
Love the Ireland Videos, Doyle is super likeable
Sometimes I forget just how beautiful this land is.
Sorry to be off topic but does anybody know of a trick to get back into an Instagram account??
I somehow lost my login password. I appreciate any assistance you can give me.
@Milan Lee Instablaster :)
The Savage is the best bang for the buck in my opinion. I have a 30-06, 308, 17hmr, and 22lr and they're all great shooters. Seem little more spendy in England compared to their other American counterparts, which is quite the opposite here in the States. What you said about the American hunters going there is inspiring. I'm of English, Irish, Scottish and German descent. Would love to get to hunt all four countries at least a few times. Was recently floated the idea by one of my mates in England to go on a deer stock in Scotland the next time I'm there. Great video despite the challenge of the weather. Hopefully I remember my wet weather gear the next time. I was soaked but still having an awesome time. I'm sure if temp had been a bit lower the fun might have ended. Here endeth the long-winded babble. Thanks again to you and everyone at the channel.
Hi Dan - thanks for this. The Savage is 'finding its feet' in the UK & Ireland. It has lots going for it, including its superb trigger, but it's not as well known yet as other brands. And I'm glad you're inspired to come over... Yes, bring a coat 🙂. / Charlie
Great vid jason good shooting in that wind 👍
Jason, best film so far. superb
Brilliant video lads that land yous hunt Majestic 👍thanks for posting this video G78 from Belfast 👍
Cracking shot mate, good hunting
Another great video, well done lads.
Unknown Person thank you!
Great video lads, well done👍
wayne carberry thank you!
Nice shot Jason though I don't envy you hunting in those conditions. Looks like a wild and windy place. The Victorian high country can get like that in our winter. Cheers from Australia.
Another nice film and a nice shot.
Wayne Bennett thank you!
Good shooting with the new rifle, I shoot all my Sika through the shoulders, they don’t run far with no front legs ! Plus the meat loss with my .270 is minimal. 😋
Nice video, that kill shot dropped it on the spot. Would you be able to show on CZcams how you prepare the kill from taking it down in the future as feel like I missed something and trying to learn and educate myself as much as possible. Or could you perhaps post somewhere where the more graphic shots can be viewed. Thanks again for a great video , regards from Tynemouth, England.
My mate here in Canada has himself a savage high country in 300 win mag. Knocks down plenty of moose and elk with it. I'd love to see my native Mournes have opportunities for deer hunting.
Great video Jason,which model
Ridgeline smock are you using?👍
Good stuff j and good camera work will 😎
Super stuff
Hello what is the suppressor make and model?? Is it the same chef Mike uses?
What mounts was used for the scope? I have the exact setup and about to order mounts. Want the 56mm to clear. Should I go, medium or high?
1:59........Savage now makes a VERY good bolt gun. Leupold scopes over here are the gold standard. 270 Winchester is the most used cartridge in the western states of the US.
You and the gun are very good for that target that you shot. At 300 yards, it should only MAYBE open up to 2 inches.
300 yards is easy with a 270. Only bullet better is a 6mm. All of your hits would have dropped a deer. Be happy.
And you are a good shot. (Did I say that before?)
Now you know what most of us hunters in the Intermountain West use for Mule deer.
9:19.......why rack the bolt,........he is down and out for the count. One-shot kills are the trademark of the 270 Winchester.
Another first class job, Jason +will even with the weather!! What sort of price range is that particular gun in?
Niel McG I don’t have a confirmed price on the gun as yet but I’ll have it for you soon.
nice shooting in terrible conditions .
Kevin Shepherd thank you. Yea wasn’t ideal for filming but something rewarding about getting out in that weather
Can’t seem to find this rifle for sale anywhere in the U.K.? Do you know if it has been released over here yet? Thanks.
Steve Hamilton I’m not sure. Maybe drop Edgar Brothers a call to ask them.
Does anyone know the backpack he was using in this episode ?
Jason, what is the pack you are using ? Looks nice and compact for a day out on the hill
Moray Honeyman it’s a Vorn Fox. Perfect for one person’s gear for a day out. And the rifle is well secured. This one was borrowed but I’ve since bought the slightly bigger one called the Lynx.
Jason Doyle cheers Jason. Thought it might be . £219 here in UK. Looks like some more gear money out of bank account. Just don’t tell the Mrs 🤣
Moray Honeyman you’ve just hung me out to dry by posting the price! If my mrs reads the comments I’m in trouble 😂 yea they are pricey and I’m not sure if they are worth it but I just spend a few days carrying a rucksack and a rifle in Scotland and it became tedious as hell on steep ground. I think the vorn will be a great solution
Great kit and great shooting.
@jason Doyle what coat where you wearing? Also what binos do you use?
Chris Phillipo I’m wearing the new Ridgeline Evolution jacket the the binos are Leupold BX 5 Santium HD 10x50
Thanks Jason great video a pleasure to watch as always. Great shooting in a lovely surrounding
Thanks so much!
How do you compare the vx5 to there European rivals ( Zeiss s&b ect)
Jason where about are u in wicklow
Oooh a stalker never gives out that info!
Stranahely, Glen of Imaal
Why did you pick the 270 ? Curious
rem r15 always used it and it’s my benchmark. Does the job I want better than most calibers I’ve used
What backpack is Jason using???
It's a Vorn backpack - he says in a comment below. / Charlie
Does Jason do deer stalking trips here in Ireland by any chance
RedForge Tools ltd R deffew not personally no but I work with some outfitters that do.
@@jasondoyle6061 can you rent out a rifle or do I need to bring mine. I'd be interested in a duck shoot if you do them as well 😂👍
Jason what ballistic app are you using?
Glenn Mcloughlin Hornady’s own one. Most intuitive one I’ve used
@@jasondoyle6061 thanks Jason
lovely vid thank you guys
What cameras are used in this video guys?
Sony PXW-Z90.....and a rain cover!
Cheers man 👍
Bit out of my price range so 😂😂
Great video!! The scenery is just amazing. Sadly a Savage rifle? I mean really. I am sure they went through yours thoroughly but in the real world the fit and finish is lacking. I have seen many for sale, they will always be a bargain basement rifle. I saw in the video how Jason had to jam a round in the chamber. Just 1 of the many issues them.
Sika means Pig in Finnish :D
If you're going to reenact the shot, maybe lift the scope cap before filming the safety coming off. .
Who wrote the text for this ? They should be whipped for lousy spelling.
Angus Lee that’ll be Mr. Jacoby!
Wha...! Where's the spelling mistake? 😭 / Charlie
Actually, as Charlie is upset about spelling mistakes, I looked at it again. It’s in the captions which I had turned on with fat fingers ! Some are quite amusing. I presume that it is voice activated somehow as I doubt anyone would knowingly type in “ Muslim flexing “ 😂😂😂
Good video, I enjoyed it as I always do.
You have to see this film - good segment on auto captions: czcams.com/video/2FwgxviON9I/video.html
