- For Fieldsports Ireland episode 5, Jason Doyle is out after pigeons over oilseed rape and sika in the Wicklow mountains. The pigeons are coming in well and Jason enlists the help of pigeon guide Stephen Dunbar to explain how he decoys and shoots them. By the time Jason gets into the Wicklow mountains, the temperature has dropped. ‘Ideal conditions to go camping,’ says Jason’s buddy Will O’Meara, so off they go, hoping they are well protected from the wintry weather. Happily, Jason has lots of kit on test this month: Benelli Raffaello over-and-under and Gamebore’s Supersteel cartridges for the pigeons, Leica Geovid range finding binos and Ridgeline clothing for the stalking. And is he wearing the worst Christmas jumper ever?

Great episode. Authentic reportage on kit. Most digestible explanation of bullet ballistic variation due to angle of shot. Excellent.
Vincent Gray thank you. We struggled to explain the concept in a short and entertaining way but I’m happy with the results and delighted you enjoyed it!!
Pigeons, Ponchos and Physics-Perfect Program.
Shane Fouhy thank you Shane! Catch up soon!
Good stuff!
One thing: NEVER follow a river (water course) down from a height, when on the mountain, or whether in the jungle, or on steep hills, especially in severe inclement weather, e.g., whiteout, monsoon rains, thick mist, snowstorm, heavy rains, etc. The safer option is to dig in, make a shelter as best you can, make a brew, and sit tight, until all's clear!
Great show thanks. Even a 20 bird day is okay. Just to be out and about makes the adventure.
Stewart Frerotte something different then potatoes
I enjoyed the video and i hope to see more in such good quality even under harsh conditions as they had. Enjoy the good hunt boys/girls.
Jason’s sweater is the best😀
Great episode 👌👍
Good stuff Jason, in all segments,...I especially enjoyed the stalking with Will, and shooting education when shooting downhill,....Thank You!
Great video again Jason n co I especially like the aspect of sleeping out on the hill like the kiwis do it gives a feeling of really working for your quarry and also packing out the carcass as so many of other countries do with vast wilderness
Cracking episode lads, looking forward to more 👌👌👌
Brilliant show, great content and delivery.👍🏻
Excellent video again, very informative
Excellent Video to Wrap up this year.
All the best in the new year. Keep em coming.
Cracking video
It also makes a massive difference when shooting down hill with an air rifle. I used to zero the sight in at home 20m then go to Nans and shot 60m down hill in the field and still be high took me ages to work our what was going on
Luke Lynn great point. We might try it with an air rifle to see how much it affects the shot.
Yet again another top video from you guys. Well done they’re great to watch!
Nick E thank you Nick!

Unreal video👌
Hi jason, big fan of the show, just wondering what calibre rifle is will shooting the deer with?
Niel McG thabk you! It was a .270 with 130g bullets
Lads i was looking at the ridgeline gear in athlone today. they only had the half zip full length jacket and half zip pull over. whichi would ye recommend. full lenght or pull over. also what pants are ye wearing.
Michael Byrne the full zip coat we have in this film is a prototype and will be available very soon. It’s the one to go for in my opinion. If you prefer a smock design then the monsoon elite 2 is the one you want. Breathable and lightweight.
The monsoon smock you wore, what size was it so I can get a idea of sizing?
peanutjellyman it’s a large. They are very roomy and quite big fitting. I’m a 42 in a jacket usually.
its the wicklow mountain lads not exactly the wops
whats with all the gear
If Carlsburg did shooting sport videos.......
Just saying.
will langrell most kind. Thank you.
Are you allowed to hunt in a National Park ? or do you need a permit ? Are you allowed to use your own guns for hunting in Ireland from UK ?
Elfin4 yes you need a permit to hunt deer here and an Irish license. There is no estate rifle exemption here so every shooter must have a license. You can bring a gun from the UK as long as you have arranged Irish documents in advance.
@@jasondoyle6061 Jason, thanks for getting back to me. Im a newbie just doing all my research for possible shooting locations so I can list as many places as possible on a FAC application. Is it hard to get an Irish license and is it possible to get one for a weekend or short period to cover visit. So in short what are the Irish documents required in addition to the UK FAC license. All info and guidance appreciated.
Elfin4 the Irish license is for s year and the hunting permit covers a hunting season - sep to end of feb. you need a sponsor here to sort them for you
@@jasondoyle6061 Jason, thanks for the information, I will remember this for he future. All the best for 2019
Needs sub titles
Hearing aids maybe 😂🤣
Love the jersey, thanks for the excellent show.
