When the "crumple zones" were first developed/implemented, the design was never patented, MB AG wanted the world to have this important safety feature to be used in every car manufacturers' car design, and not many people know this....
This is not true, Béla Barényi, the inventor of many of MB's safety features, patented the crumple zone with patent number 854,157, you can see it in this video: czcams.com/video/dOyILzo-yDY/video.html
That being said, yes, MB did not keep this invention to themselves.

Jason Carpp Actually, all carmakers selling cars in the USA have to meet increasingly strict safety standards. Mercedes-Benz is definitely among the top 2 or 3 in safety research, but the American carmakers are equally committed to building safe cars. No, it wasn’t always that way, but it is now.

Скурвился мерседес. В семье 2 цешки: w203 и W205, первой уже 16 лет а второй 5. В 203 при скорости 160 почти ничего не скрипит не рыпит, зато в 205 концерт сверчков!

Das waren noch Mercedes-Benz Wagen ,und sahen gut aus ,heute nur noch Autos wie andere auch ,sehen alle gleich aus sogar der Stern von der Haube ist weg ,nur noch eine Plakette ,macht Mal die selben Crash Test mit den neuen Modellen von heute,die würde nicht so abschneiden
if you could put anotations of what system is what would be of great help, can barely distinguish if they are showing an ABS or anti slip differential...
At 7:08 they were testing ABS, At 12:42 was ESP, At 13:50 Traction control and Brake Assist, At 14:47 again ESP + TC

Yes, German safety standards are way different than US. So ABS was used on everything in the line up to buses and cabovers/Unimogs.....
It shows the state of american safety. So it took over 30 years to get abs on class 8 trucks here. Was epic when they showed dudes foot nail that brake pedal!
Description is wrong... ABS in Mercedes appeared in 1978, first car using that system was Jensen FF in 1966. Even Volvo used ABS earlier than Mercedes.
Well, that's a bit of a miss-nomer. There were many different attempts at reliable anti-lock brakes, and the one you mention on the Jensen was a limited production mechanical system. Not very reliable, not widely used, and not what you could really call "Modern" ABS. Even Ford had a system in the early 1970s that attempted to keep the rear brakes from locking up with a sophisticated yoke around the driveshaft at the transmission. That wasn't really ABS
The first system that we consider modern ABS in any car in the world was the system in the 1978 S-Class Mercedes. That was the first fully reliable, computerized pumping system using electronic sensors at each wheel hub and a hydraulic pump, pumping the brakes accordingly, very quickly, to prevent wheel lockup.
