- Why This Place in VILNIUS BANNED GOSSIPS
Join me as we discover the Hales Turgus Market in Vilnius, Lithuania.
We set out from Riga in the early morning and as soon as we arrived in Vilnius, we wasted no time making our way to a local market.
Although Vilnius has many quality markets, I could not resist going to this one when I learned that a rule prohibiting ladies from gossiping in the market was passed.
We met the locals, ate some unique Lithuanian delicacies, and saw if there were any gossiping babushkas in this market.
Let us discover the Hales Turgus in Vilnius together!
If you enjoy adventure videos from the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, then grab your vodka, some zakusky and join me as we explore the Market that prohibits gossiping in Vilnius, Lithuania.

Nice to see you in Lithuania!
Thank you so much! 👍🙂
Hello. Justin. You can visit in another cities. Kaunas, Klaipėda, not only in Vilnius
Thanks for the advice, i definitely will...stay tuned! 👍😃
@@J.E.E if you soviet history fan you need go to Grutas park museum Druskininkai, but in this town you will find museum about resistance movement in Lithuania when was Stalin times.
It’s a great market, I always visit it whenever I am in Vilnius. There is cafe/food place right when you enter through the main door on the left side, run by this babushka with short hair, their food is homemade and really cheap and their ginger and mint tea is just superb
And if you visit the heart of city centre, "Sultiniai" (eng. broths) has the best bun rolls in the world (yeast dough), original chef lady owners never sold the place, and I remember it since the early 80s!
@@jbgoode thanks, I will visit that place next month when I will be in Vilnius
Loved the footage and the close ups mate, really nice to see all this, thanks for the video!! 🙌🏽🙌🏽
Glad you enjoyed it! 👍🙂
Thank you dear Justin.
My pleasure! 👍🙂
Hello long time no see your videos 😮
And I have been more than 50 times in Vilnius without visiting that lovely market 😢
Great content Justin
Thank you so much! 👍🙂
the more i see your videos, the more places get on my bucketlist...
Geographically, the Baltic countries Lithuania 🇱🇹, Latvia 🇱🇻and of course Estonia 🇪🇪 are Northern Europe* countries, together with the (“Big Brother •”SCANDINAVIA ). Balticum - NORTH -East’ !
Geographically Lithuania is literally in center of Europe.
Not really, there's like 5 geographical centers of Europe, it all depends on how you look at it. @@Kasparas987
I will be in Riga on the 24 of April maybe we can meet it's because of your wonderful and amazing videos I choose to book a flight Thanks Justin
Out of food? Whaaaaat?😅 great video brother!
It's common for the cantines over there, otherwise the fresh home made food would go bad! And people know a good and healthy place to eat ;)
Love the fact that the place retains its character and hasn't embraced the lure of the global chains...
dead wrong. Some of the global chains don't operate there because it is not profitable for that kind of operation, but goods are still imported through 3rd parties so there is no difference except the price hike.
Food in Lithuania is really, really good
Agreed… thanks for watching my friend! 👍👌
Hi Justin . Older generation in Lithuania is still have Soviet Union mentality and very hard to deal with. Especially cashiers and cab drivers .I was very surprised that Latvians much more open minded than Lithuanias . Unpleasantly surprised 😔
Thank you for sharing, i really appreciate it! 👍🙂
Younger generation Lithuanians are really cool people
Agreed… thanks for watching my friend! 👍👌
Best wishes from Pompey UK🤝😃
What's wrong with older generation?
Lithuania is slowly changing for better and nicer place, we still need at least 20 years.
Positive vibes 👌👍
👍🙂
Hi Justin :) the third video for me watched on your channel. I like your energy and was surprised on your skills in Russian and French languages :) because most of UK people know just UK English.
I would like to meet you next time you will visiting Lithuania :)
great video justin friend
Thank you so much, glad you enjoyed the video! 👍🙂
The train station will be going under a major renovation. When it is finished it will be even more breathtaking!
Hi, Justin.
I have watched all your videos since the beginning almost. I am from Latvia and now live in Florida for 15 years and I can tell you, that you speak in Russian waaaaay better now then 2 years ago. Good for you, bother! Keep on traveling because I watch all your videos!
There's a good museum at Vilnius train station. The giant Tony Soprano statue is a random feature too.
Hello, i suggest you to visit also other cities, like klaipeda or even kaunas, it's very beautiful cities
bon appetite enjoy ur time and nice summer justin stay hyper and healthy 😉
Thank you mate 👍🙂
Hi Justin! Just FYI - Baltic countries geographically are North Europeans not Eastern :) I hope you enjoyed Lithuania! Regards
Yes 👍100% 👍
It's debatable
United Nations has classified Baltic States as part of Northern Europe. Thanks for debate
@@zinomanezinomybe8244 Saying "Eastern Europe" is the same as saying "the third world". People still use it, but after the end of the cold war it doesn't make sense.
That train station reminds me Chișinău, Moldavia! 🇲🇩
Thank you very much for your input! 👍🙂
Very clean City
Agreed… thanks for watching my friend! 👍👌
You can go to Grutas park.
Kibinas with Chichen and mushrooms is my favorite at Turgus
It was amazing, i really enjoyed it! 👍🙂
Just like you said, Lithuania is mostly Catholic, the egg colour 15:31 seller is clearly Orthodox, because their Easter hasn't arrived yet. Reminds me of a joke about the very old times at the newspaper stand:
(Buyer asks in Russian): Have you got tonight's issue of the "Vesnik"?
(The clerk): Only in Lithuanian remaining.
(Buyer switches to Lithuanian): Ok, please give me a copy!
Thank you so much for your input, i really appreciate it! 👍🙂
The girl is sauce shop had same name as your btw mmy dude :D Justė, its female type of your name which is in Lithuanian "Justinas". ❤
... And I'm sorry for spicy levels... I'm with you on that one .. I grow my own peppers and I know what spicy actually is 😂... I would love you you my home grown sauce that local public wouldn't dare to eat 😂 but I bet you would appreciate! Also we could do some barbeque in beatiful poblic park barbeque spot .
Hopefully, paranoia will die completely with another generation. Great video mate.
I see Halės Turgus - not that marked you search for .. real market of Vilnius - Kalvarijų Turgus. Or even Gariūnų Turgus. ;)
Thanks for the advice, i will try it next time!! 👍😃
It's amazing how young western and eastern Europeans speak English, and most are polyglots. I experienced this in Serbia, what I can say is to learn the language for the country you are planning on traveling and the locals will like you.
Agreed… thanks for watching my friend! 👍👌
Lux mean in Vilnius not luxury, but mean thumb up.
👍🙂
That girl was holding that guy like he was her girlfriend 😂😂, well times has changed what can i say ..
Visit Kaunas and Jurbarkas ❤
Stay tuned, i will be visiting Kaunas soon! 👍🙂
@@J.E.E Come visit Jurbarkas too, it's not far away from Kaunas ☺ It's a nice town on a shore of Nemunas, the longest river in Lithuania ☺
When are you taking the bus to Minsk from Vilnius? They drive almost every hour.
Why are you calling them BABUSHKAS, this is not ruzzia...
I wonder why cured meats are so popular, does it stem from back when food was scarce or rationed so had to cure the meat to keep it preserved to last longer? I’ve always wondered this
Meat had to be preserved with drying, salting, smoking, etc. before the invention of refrigeration. Nowadays, it is more because of the tradition.
22:40, pagarba tai moteriai, labai teisingai pasake. Justin, please learn at least few basic lithuanian phrases as you visit our beautiful country and meet locals.
Also, we are Northern Europeans.
Tu durnas
23:00 Since when is a private business a public place, what?!🤣🤣🤣🤣
Public is not allowed there? How they earn money?
ohhh, Justin is in my home town! Let's go for a beer or to Trakai castle!
I visited Vilnius and also went by train to Trakai castle. Very interesting place and helpful people. I arrived at the airport and took the wrong bus to the centre so had to go a second time. The Russian ticket inspectors did a 'spot check' and were really helpful and told me to get back on the bus and explained to me where to get off even though I had no valid ticket.

Thank you so much! 👍🙂
I like how you immediately start talking English, pretending not to understand foreign language hostile comments, but at 29:50 there goes your Freudian slip :)
To those who don't know: the short "ah?" is "what, or huh?" in those parts of the world ;))
you're just like Bald and Bankrupt minus the charisma and humor.
Hello mate... Could be accurate, now do you have the balls to describe yourself???🤣🤣🤣
He is good👍😃
typical russians telling random people off for no reason 😂
Lithuanians feel extremely rude, and annoyed? Like what. This video just convinced me to never travel there.
Please dont travel then. Best wishes
Lithuanians are very direct and natural people we dont like put fake faces and fake smiles :)
the only rude people in this video spoke russian first and not lithuanian
All of the rude and annoyed people in the video are ruzzkis ;)
This lady Justė best❤❤❤
👍🙂
