    As an asian, we are always taught to wash the rice at least 3 times (I usually go for 5 times just to be extra safe lol) before cooking it. This is to get rid of excess starch and dirt because it hasn't been washed before. This doesn't just apply to babies but also when you're cooking rice for adults.

      @jennifer7413 Pƙed 4 lety +18

      Thanks for tip...Canadian cooking momma in the making...our rice boxes don't include this in our 'directions' but I have heard this before but will now be definitely washing mine more then a quick wash.

      In most western countries rice is highly processed compared to the rice in Asia. Unfortunately while it's cleaner it is also less nutritious.

      @Nichole Israel She said she's Asian. Might not even be Chinese and I'm pretty sure it's bad form to assume everyone in the whole continent does these things đŸ€Š

      Nichole Israel hahah ok thanks for assuming I’m Chinese. I didn’t even know Chinese people ate bats and wolves until the outbreak. Eat at your own risk I guess đŸ€·â€â™€ïž these exotic meats are definitely not part of my culture. Heck some of us don’t even eat pork or beef due to religious reasons.

      Kat Lucas hahaha yeah people love going about assuming things don’t they? But yeah you’re right, I’m not Chinese. I was just as surprised to find out that they ate all these exotic meats! We can find kangaroo meat in our supermarkets (in Australia) and imo that’s cray too but not everyone eats it obv.

    I highly recommend adding a little oil to the carrots (it can also be added before serving). Beta-Carotine and many other vitamins are liposoluble, which means they need fat to be digested 😊

    Random tip: you don't need a separate steamer! I steam vegetables by putting water in a pot and then put a collander/sieve on top of the pot, put in the veggies and cover with a lid. Works just fine and no need for extra stuff in the kitchen 😊

    • @lienbijs1205
      @lienbijs1205 Pƙed 4 lety +9

      You can also steam perfect in a pressure pot, because of the shorter cooking time there will be less vitamines destroyed. Just go for a solid one, not for aluminium, that is not healthy.

      IKEA has those steam things for pots that cost about $5 and you’ll lose basically no nutrients, and it’s really tiny and will take up basically no space in the cupboard (I store mine in a pot). And you’ll need such a small amount of water that it saves electricity due to not needing 10-15 minutes to come to a boil.

      @@DerSaaI know there are higher risks as you get older, but I had mine recently at the age of 34, perfect for me as I was in a position where I am personally and financially stable, and mentally prepared and mature to have a child. I like to assume that the health reasons are the only reason you would say that? Also as long as the person is healthy, the risks are no higher than someone in their 20s

    There are rules (like no honey prior to one year of age; introduce foods for about a half week at a time, so you know what is causing an allergic reaction should there be one; allow the child to explore their food because it is all totally new to them, thus strange), so people should consult their pediatrician and then adapt to suit their family life and baby's needs. I understand fully about meat prep: it is not likely I will open a butcher shop anytime soon. We can always save the water from cooking the veggies for soup stock for a later family meal. Water from the fruits can be used for making applesauce or some such. It is fun watching babies eat because they are so facially expressive about it. This was helpful.

    I'm a vegetarian who eats beans every day. I tried so many different ways to cook dried beans because I don't like the high sodium content in canned beans. You can save a lot of hassle when cooking dried beans by EITHER putting them in the crock pot with water on low (about 4 hours for smaller beans, 8 for bigger beans) OR putting them in a lidded casserole dish or dutch oven (with water) for about 1.5-2 hours at 350 degrees (less for smaller beans like lentils...about 45 min). For either method you just need to rinse the beans first and then toss into your cooking method.

    • @Mrs.Silversmith
      @Mrs.Silversmith Pƙed 4 lety +1

      People have gotten food poisoning from using a slow cooker to cook beans. If you use this method to soften dried beans, they still need to be brought to a rolling boil for at least 10 minutes at some point in the cooking process in order to break down a toxin known as hemagglutinin. Red kidney beans have the highest content of hemagglutinin. Signs of having eaten under-cooked beans are nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting.

      Katie McCullum here in Italy, where I am . from, it is very very common to use dry beans and the way we cut down in cooking time is by soaking them for 12-14 Hours with a teaspoon of baking soda per kg, and then u cook them normally and it takes max 3 hours :) (for lentils u just need to soak them for 20 minutes)

    Hey! In fact, spinach is not recommended for ages under one because of the high nitrate content. Nitrate interferes with oxygen transport in the baby's body. And same is with cow's milk. It contains too much protein for the baby's kidneys and too little nutrients for the baby. At the age of ten months, the baby can begin to get used to dairy products with the help of sour milk products.

    • @ASHSID

      @evelyncastillo1525 Pƙed 4 lety +2

      Kimberly Mijares It’s always good to consult your pediatrician with certain things though. Some babies shouldn’t eat it Incase, but if your pediatrician says it’s okay then you can incorporate it! My daughter can not eat spinach due to her kidneys are unable to properly process it yet. She had kidney issues since birth though
